How can camels go for days without water? Do marine birds drink seawater? Why don't penguins' feet freeze? In this offbeat autobiography, one of the world's most prominent animal physiologists answers these and other questions as he relates the story of his life and his unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the peculiar problems of animals. Photos.
This is a book filled with information from the aspect of biological and medical studies. The author and his first wife were/are true scientists. Their research took them all over the world. I found the Sahara chapter particularly compelling. And the chapters that are combined into segments were imaginatively labeled.
The experiments the author carried out were really interesting. He mostly focused on how animals obtain/retain water in environment where freshwater is hard to come by (deserts and oceans). It tended to get a little slow when he talked about his home/marraige life.
