OVERWEIGHT is a hilarious fantasy novel about a world that has finally blown out its jeans. All of the fad diets and the magic weight-loss pill never panned out.

Overweight depicts how America and its urge to down as many Big Macs, McNuggets and Whoppers as possible, has finally doomed the entire planet. The globe has stopped spinning and is sinking out of the atmosphere. Only one man--a fad diet founder himself--knows how to save humanity, and he's not overly anxious to do so. After the president and some muscle-bound friends get involved, calories are burned and humanity is left with just one chance at redemption, which is found in the most unlikely of places.

When I started reading this I turned to my husband and said, "If this is to be taken seriously, it has to be one of the worst books I have ever read." I finally relaxed when I saw it was a satire. Now, as a satire, I admit it was a pretty good light read. The stereotypes of the self-hating overweight man and the obese bitchy-girlfriend, as well as the muscle men who are hell-bent on saving the world were pretty spot-on.

Don't take this one seriously, it's just good fun.

While the story was enjoyable enough, I found it to be a difficult read due to the many typos that kept interrupting the flow of the story. If not for the typos, this probably would have gotten a higher rating.

OVERWEIGHT: A Novel is a satirical take on America's overweight problem that is blown out into global apocalyptic proportions and is written in a fast-paced Hollywood style that feels begging to be made into a movie. While writing lacked at times and for the most part the story felt lacking a direction or resolution, the jokes aimed towards both the overweight mediocrity of the average US folks and their fitness-crazed opposition was what made this an enjoyable ride. The fun factor is really, really well suited for a B-grade comedy movie in the style of Another [Fat] Movie before that type of movies degraded into nonsense. I constantly imagined scenes from the book with popular comedians especially Leslie Nielsen [RIP] as the President. Overall, the book was a surprisingly above-average read. I don't understand all the bad rep it gets - I guess all those overweight readers really don't like made fun of.
