I really wasn't sure what to expect with this book, and I wasn't thrilled or disappointed. I'm trying to work my way through some of the books that I know I should have read by now, and it helps that many of them are public domain and can therefore be downloaded to my iPod for free.
As something of a time-travel connoisseur, I think this particular tale left me wanting more. I understand that it was written more as social commentary than science fiction, and I was intrigued by the implications of what the traveler found in the future. Considering that all of my favorite science fiction books concentrate on how characters internalize and make sense of fantastical experiences, THE TIME MACHINE left me a little bored. It's quick though, and definitely worth reading for free.
This book is a timeless classic... that has been downsized for younger children to enjoy. I found it in the used book section at my library, and just had to pick it up... it was $1.00. The book was wonderful, highly imaginative, and the characters, especially the Eloi just came to life in the pages. I've yet to read the actual REAL book by H.G. Wells... but I can tell you, that this is a book I will be reading to my son when he comes of age. Read it, you must.
A good story, although this is a simplified version for young readers. Even so, there were parts that creeped me out. I wonder if I could make it through the unabridged version.
Pictures throughout the book helped my 6 year old to keep up interest in early reading. The book was so scary for him toward the end, we had to skip chapters. Probably for 10+.
