How could McGill Feighan know that a fun weekend on Rehma the Bird World would turn into a frightening go-round with a mysterious mutant virus, an assault by galactic goons, and, as always, into a frustrating search for the Far Being Retzglaran? After all, his Talent was Flinging people and cargo across the Universe, not foretelling the future. So McGill set out -- with the assistance of the crimson-crested Dr. Th'hweet -- to put things right on Rehma, so that once again the planet might be a place of nestlings and birdsong...
I didn't realize this was the fourth in a series until I already started reading it, and was surprised that I could actually keep up with what was going on. It's not perfect my any means, but it was so fun to read a sci Fi that is actually fun and exciting and doesn't read like a textbook with missing pages. The characters are memorable and the plot is interesting. It's a very comfy read, and exactly what I needed. :)
He did such a fairly decent job of avoiding the 'Science' in his Fiction, that I was really surprised to read his reference to CRTs. I'm saddened he never added to this series, but it ends well, and was an enjoyable re-read.
I adore Sam and Walking Mule. Getting tired of the Organization's machinations and deaths as a result. Bird world, nasty villains, happy ending. I am afraid I didn't give this series the attention it deserved this time around...too much distraction and interruption.
