John Lewis Hart, also known as Johnny Hart, was an American cartoonist noted as the creator of the comic strip B.C. and co-creator (with Brant Parker) of the strip The Wizard of Id. Hart was recognized with several awards, including five from the National Cartoonists Society, and the Swedish Adamson Award. In his later years, he sparked controversy by incorporating overtly Christian themes and messages into the strips.
And so the eloquent Grog entered the world of B.C. Quite funny. He’s an unusual character, but perhaps a little one dimensional. Still, I always get a few laughs out of these books.
This one is special, you could tell it is one of the collection books he made. The art is different, the style of humor is different than the other ones. Its still hilarious too! Grog is my favorite!!!
Coming out in 1970 with strips from 65 and 66 – a good period for the strip, Grog makes his debut here and either the humor in that period was particularly good or I was just really in the mood to be entertained. Five stars for making me laugh out loud.
I used to love flipping through my parents' B.C. books back in the day. Who know, maybe the book I borrowed from my sister was my parents'. Either way, it was just as fun now to read B.C. as it was back then.
