Rate this book
How does Sherman Oliver Holmes succeed in finding and solving every crime? It's elementary--he's the great-great-grandson of Sherlock, with the same finely honed powers of deduction! Sherman just showed up in Capital City one day, wearing a deerstalker cap; though Police Sergeant Gunter Watson didn't quite believe the outlandish tale, he quickly learned to trust the newcomer's instaincts. Come along and watch Sherman's sixth sense in action as he uncovers thieves, murderers, and all-around bad guys.and test your own detective skills against this modern master of sleuthing.
* Someone snatched a million-dollar painting! Who was it?
* A man is slain while wandering through a maze. Can you find your way through the thicket of suspects and name the killer?
* It's foul ball when some young baseball players discover a burglary... or did one of them commit the crime himself?
And, in case Holmes has you stumped, the answers appear at the end.

HY CONRAD has made a career out of murder, earning the 2022 Independent Press Award for Best Mystery (“The Fixer’s Daughter”) and 2022 NYC Big Book Awards for Best Mystery Series (“The Fixer’s Daughter,” “Sins of the Family”), a Scribe Award for Best Novel (“Mr. Monk Helps Himself”) and garnering three Edgar nominations from the Mystery Writers of America (for the “Monk” TV series). Along the way, he developed a horde of popular games and interactive films, hundreds of short stories and a dozen books of solvable mysteries, published in over 15 languages. Hy is best known for his eight seasons as writer/co-executive producer for the ground-breaking TV series, “Monk.” Other shows include “White Collar” and “The Good Cop.”

As a novelist, Hy authored the final four books in the Monk series, the Amy Travel Mysteries (“Toured to Death,” “Dearly Departed” and “Death on the Patagonian Express”) and the Callie McFee Mysteries (“The Fixer’s Daughter,” a Barnes & Noble bestseller and “Sins of the Family”).

In the world of theatre, his produced works consist of “Home Exchange” (a mystery), “Ta-Dah!” (a musical), and “Quarantine for Two” (a socially distanced dark comedy about the pandemic).

When he looks up from his keyboard, Hy sees either the hills of Vermont or the palm trees of Key West, depending on the time of year. He also sees Jeff Johnson, his partner of 43 years, now his husband, plus Nelson and Stella, the latest in a dynasty of mini-schnauzers.

I first started reading Hy Conrad's blog when he took up writing the Mr. Monk books. He posts fun little mini-mysteries there on a regular basis and I enjoy trying to solve them. When I saw my library had his mini-mystery book, thought I would give it a read.

The hero of these stories is a southern gentleman named Sherman Holmes who believes himself to be a descendant of Sherlock Holmes, and like his famous relative, has keen powers of deduction. Each little mystery takes just a minute or two to read, then some time to puzzle over (some were easier to solve than others). Solutions are given in the back as a continuation of the story.

An entertaining read.

Not sure where I picked this little book up at, but it was an interesting read for the Christmas holidays. Took me quite a while to get it logged on here because I couldn't find the right book to link to. Reminded me of Encyclopedia Brown or 10 minute mysteries by Donald J. Sobol. Got some of them right and some of them eluded me.
