I know it says advanced but this book does start you from the basic OSI model and works from there. It is very focused on getting you ready for the CCIE routing/switching exam. I'm sure the exam itself has evolved but the basic stuff in this book related to dynamic routing protocol (both interior and exterior) is essential. Have a buddy configure a nasty routing loop and have you figure out how to get the network stable again. Fun fun fun.
