Knives & Flowers #2

The Whored's Prayer

Rate this book
Branded. Back-stabbed. Bloodthirsty. Ready for one more kiss of the knife?

Some ax murderers are nicer than Joseph Merchant--or so he'd have his law proteges think. Maybe that's why lawyer-turned-escort Leila can't say no to she's got a thing for men with knives.

Joseph bought Leila's services for the whole of their New York business trip. The more they explore their darker desires, the more Joseph pushes for something other than their paid arrangement...and Charlotte, Leila's dirty secret and escort alter-ego, is helpless to resist. Now Leila has a shot at an amazing career, a boyfriend as twisted as she is, and for the first time, she starts to accept her submissive, polyamorous self.

But somebody knows more about her escort work than she bargained for-- someone who's not afraid to abuse her secrets to get what they want. And if their blackmail succeeds, Leila will lose everything...

Contains non-consent roleplay that'll make you check your locks, and a girl who's sold more than her body to a man who'll take all of it--and then some.

★★★★ 1/2! Breaking Joseph, book 2 of 2. The conclusion of Leila’s erotic journey orchestrated by her boss Joseph, the Chairman of the Whored!

“He looked every inch the wolf, groomed and stuffed into a suit.”

Books in Knives & Flowers series should be read in order:
Book 1: Breaking Leila
Book 2: Breaking Joseph

In Breaking Leila (book 1) law intern Leila Vaughn, Lei-Lei aka Charlotte’s side job as an escort was discovered by her boss, the mysterious and sinister law firm partner, Joseph Merchant, Joe aka Chairman of the Whored who booked her for a night of debauchery and kink bringing her coworker and friend, law intern Matthew Gordon, Matt aka Mattman/Matt-Matt. into his game.

That night changed everything, setting all their lives into a tailspin. Leila found herself torn between two men, her past and future and her two personalities. She was forced to reevaluate everything her decisions clouded by a web of lies and omissions.

Breaking Joseph (book 2) picks up at book 1’s ending Leila is more confused than ever; torn between her two sides, the men in her life, worries about her future and her need to explore more dark and kinky sex with Joseph.

From euphoric highs to rock-bottom lows Leila is learning that sometimes one must to let go of status quo, even of the things one loves to embrace an uncertain future ahead.

“His fingers stroked my scratched belly as he fucked me slow, slowly, slower. Breath peaked against our pillows in bursts of warm air.”

Nine words to describe Joseph Merchant, Joe aka Chairman of the Whored: Confident, enigmatic, commanding, intuitive, non-committal, blunt, manipulative, sinister and ruthless.

“I’m a man, not a fucking religion.”

Nine words to describe Leila Vaughn, Lei-Lei aka Charlotte: Fearless, kinky, captivating, insightful, obtuse, analytical, private, focused and vulnerable.

“You want to talk contradictions? You’ve been alone with me for five whole minutes and you’ve still got your clothes on. Blasphemy.”

Breaking Joseph is told from Leila’s POV, is captivating, driven by Leila’s care-free and charismatic personally everyone around her drawn to her like moths to a flame. There was some events midway through I felt were uncharacteristic to Leila, but I have to write that off as confusion on her part. Story has fitting conclusion, after some nail-biting twists, and comes with an epilogue. Be sure to read the last bonus POV.

Spell-binding story-telling! Intriguing and kinky plot! Captivating heroine! Sinister and addicting Joseph! Many amazing side characters; Aiden (Aid-Aid), Matt-Matt plus villains!

“Holding me tightly in place, and he kissed the same way he fucked: sharp, thorough and intricate.”

With the powerful ending of Breaking Leila, it seems as though Leila and Joseph have finally pierced through their barriers; however, as Breaking Joseph opens, there are still layers of complex feelings that must be shattered in order for them to move forward. As such, the second and final book in this series is heavily character driven and delves into Leila’s acceptance of herself. The plot arc continues to rise throughout part two into an even more compelling story.

“Tell me: do you want to forget why you started running, or to remember where it is you were trying to get to.”

description

With Joseph meeting Leila on equal footing, they are in sync with each other on every level. Joseph has always viewed monogamy as a state of mind but has not found someone who can match him “fuck for fuck’ until he meets Leila. He is more than willing to prove to her that he is as vulnerable as she and willingly allows Leila to mark him as such. As the kinkery continues to escalate between Joseph and Leila, their bond continues to mirror each level.

”I’d waited for someone to blow me away. Whether that meant to impress or deconstruct me, I hadn’t a clue…but I never imagined I’d get both at the same time.”

With the discovery that Leila is being blackmailed, she descends back to her old world where compartmentalizes her lives. Rather than share this development with Joseph, she chooses to act on her own to protect him. While this didn’t seem like the best choice at the time, it seems to have gives Leila the clarity and validation she so craved.

”With him, no longer was I unfinished.”

This series has many elements: solid story-telling, an acute sense of humor, hot and steamy kinkery, engaging dialogue and truly likeable characters. I truly enjoyed being immersed in Leila’s world and appreciated the path the author set out for the reader. I will look forward to reading more books by this author.

THREE STARS

I just finished recently and have been on the fence about how I should rate this one but I kept flip-flopping between a 2.5 to 4 so I guess this is it.

Let me explain.

The first book in the series focuses more on Leila coming to terms with her two worlds colliding--friends of prim tax lawyer meet the rambunctious life of Charlotte, Leila's call girl counter part. The second book in the series starts off right where the first one left off and we get to see Leila and Joseph's relationship evolve into something more serious. We also get to see Leila interact a bit more with her social circle and make new friends.

Women rule each other. They say that behind every great man there's a great woman, and that may well be right, but behind that woman is a not-so-great one, bawling her eyes out. She's not crying because she didn't meet the man's standards; she's crying because the other woman made them too high.

What I Loved
More of Leila and Joseph!

What I Could Have Passed On
If in the first book you, like me, thought Leila was a bit too rambly, get ready for this one. Don't get me wrong, I am all for details in a book and every once in a while I do like indulging myself by getting lost in the thought tangents of fictional characters, but Leila took it a whole other level. Several times in the book she would be having a conversation with someone or thinking about something and she would make THE most confusing connections or bring up a completely random thought. I didn't make her deep, it made no sense and just confused the reader. I also thought that this book was a bit too dominated by Matt and Aidan. I want more Joseph and.....

If you've read the first book and liked it, definitely give this one a go. But if the first wasn't your cup of tea, skip this one.

Forbidden Romance With A Hint Of Darkness

This second book in the 'Knives & Flowers' series picks up the story of Leila, where the first book left off. This time around, Leila is more decisive and seems to know who she wants. There is far less flip-flopping between Joseph and Matt, thankfully.

Just as you start to think that everything has finally worked out for Leila, a big wrench is thrown into the plans. Suddenly, Leila's career, and everything she's worked so hard for is in jeopardy. Spiteful actions of a coworker with a grudge have the potential to bring her world crashing down around her.

In the end, all the loose ends are tied up nicely. An alternate POV ending is also provided, in case you weren't satisfied, which I was. The only thing I would have changed would have been the confusing inner-monologue that was interspersed throughout the story. It was a bit distracting at times.

Ever since she got involved with Joseph Merchant, Leila’s life has dramatically altered. She has become his personal prostitute after his discovery of her side job as Charlotte the prostitute and has spent months enjoying debauched sex with the Chairman of the Whored himself. Since her break-up with Matt, Joseph has been less discrete about their affair, showing her off to his oldest friends and work-colleges with a devil-may-care attitude that is at odds with the reality of the situation. No one must know what Leila is, what she does when she lets Charlotte out to play, but Joseph seems to be treating her as more of a lover than a whore, drawing unwelcome attention to their relationship.

There are two jobs left on her contract as Josephs personal sex slave, the first being her exclusive service during their trip to New York. But as the week progresses, their darker sides come out to play, fusing them together in a way they never imagined. In the midst of all the blood and bondage, they realise that they may have found something they didn’t realise they ever wanted; the other half of their twisted souls.

Joseph’s lack of discretion starts tongues wagging and before long someone discovers all of Leila’s secrets. To protect the things she holds dear, they want her to give up everything that she cares about. But, will she be able to give up the Chairman of the Whored?
A couple of things to mention before I properly start this review. Don’t bother reading it if you haven’t read the first, it won’t make sense. Do read them both though as they are pretty excellent
This book contains knife play and sex with foreign objects so be warned
The female lead is a masochist; there is a lot of sex with pain.

You have been warned…….

Anyhow, in some ways I enjoyed this book far more than the first; I actually liked Joseph in this one which was bloody surprising. He didn’t mellow at all; in some ways he was an even bigger prick, but by God was he a presence. They were like two twisted peas in a pod and it was disturbing to read but is certainly engaging. In the review of the first one, I wrote I’d never read a book where I hated every character in it, but still enjoyed it. This one has a totally different feel and I actually liked all the major players. The first book is a tale of sexual games, and could only be classed as erotica, but I think this one has a twisted romance running throughout its core. The writing is very smooth but my only complaint is that at a couple of points in the book, I couldn’t work out what was going on. The writing is brimming with different descriptive techniques but sometimes they detracted from the happenings of the story; there was a scene where I think they were having anal sex but I honestly still can’t tell you if that was what was definitely going on!

Leila is more conflicted in this one. At some points, it was a little odd because there were constant references to the fact that Charlotte was a complete separate entity to Leila. It felt like a cop-out at certain points, an easy excuse to explain away some of her more dubious character traits. Then Joseph states something that made me blink and consider what was actually going on; Charlotte is created by Leila to explain away all the things that she desires that she feels she shouldn’t. It is Charlotte who likes being fucked with a shoe, it is Charlotte who likes the fact her lover has carved his name across her stomach with a bread-knife and it is Charlotte who likes to be watched during sex. The one thing I really liked about this book is the message that no matter how twisted your desires, as long as you don’t hurt or abuse others, there really is nothing wrong with them.

Joseph is an arse, but I can honestly say that he is an arse that grows on you. He seems to know what she needs, seems to know that no matter how twisted his desires, Leila matches them. Yes, the fact that he has forced her into this arrangement, and is effectively paying her, is inescapable, but I don’t know how either of them mistook what was going on between them as a simple business transaction. He marked her as his, he couldn’t bear her relationship with Matt and he tried to protect her. He has his revenge on someone in this book and the method he uses is twisted and absolutely fucking perfect; I adored it.

My favourite character in the first book was the Aiden and he remains so for the second one. His protectiveness of Leila is lovely and his general attitude was highly entertaining….I want him to find a HEA with a nice boy/girl! There were a host of new characters in this one and the majority of them were fun to read about!

This isn’t an easy read; it’s kinky, twisted and slightly shocking in places. It thrilled me, aroused me and kept me entertained. All the characters are flawed, and they make dubious decisions, but that’s one of the things I liked the most.

I wanted him with something more than abandon – conviction. Now, this other emotion blossomed and it gave depth to my desire. I wanted to know every inch of him, to be his living map and his willing canvas. I’d never thought of love as a want to submit, and yet there I was, surrendered before I’d even touched him, and something other than my pulse uttered the command.

I couldn’t love this book more! Incredibly written, incredibly smutty, incredibly funny, incredibly heartfelt… going to my favorites shelf, that’s for sure!

Breaking Joseph is the second and last book in Leila’s story that begun in Breaking Leila. I admittedly wasn’t Leila’s biggest fan after what she did to poor Matt, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the book. In Breaking Joseph, we join Leila in New York where Joseph is paying her to sleep with him for a week. Of course Matt is on the trip, and so is Aidan (I love Aidan so much!) Matt is incredibly hurt from his break up with Leila and as much as Leila regrets the whole thing, she is now enjoying being with Joseph.

The sun will rise in a few hours and one way or the other, I’ll be forced back into the black and white world. I could be Leila, who is on a glamorous trip to secure her job as a proper lawyer. Or I could be Charlotte, who is on an extended job with her last client, and is blurring at the edges a little more with every fuck. When I wake up… who will I be?

Joseph, the Chairman of the Whored, the smart, rich, handsome and unapologetic man who now just might want more than a week with Leila.

Originally, I thought Joseph was nothing like my other clients. Wrong. He’d come to sate the more forbidden desires and had ended wanting something on another level. Only two things separated him from the other men I’d fucked for money: I hadn’t expected him to ask for anything else and I longed to give it to him all the same.

I absolutely enjoyed their story. I still felt for Matt but finally understood why Joseph and Leila were so drawn to each other. Two sides of the same coin.

“I want… I want to own every inch of you so that you beg to be allowed others. Sweet little things we can tease and torture together, men who wish you moaned their names like mine. I don’t think monogamy is physical Leila. I don’t think you do, either.

I absolutely loved how they came together. How they wanted each other, even healed each other through it all.

We never made love, and we never really fucked anymore, but oh, we cast spells and fought battles.

Sigh, so beautifully written! I have to say that the book is incredibly and unapologetically smutty. Pack-your-bags-and-move-into-a-huge-fan hot! But also described as dark in that there is some edge play… blood play… well, be warned. But it is also lightened by the laugh out loud humour and the sarcasm. It was such a beautiful mix of everything I love.

And that’s not even talking about the heartfelt moments. The moments where Leila learnt to deal with the whore side of her that is Charlotte. The moments where she realised her feelings for Joseph, the moments where her two sides warred with each other, and the moments where she triumphed, whole.

I cannot say enough good things about the writing. I remember checking my kindle twice, at 52% where I breathed a sigh of relief for having another huge half to go, and at 70% where I despaired for almost reaching the end.

Again, going to my favourites shelf. A definite must-read.

5 stars.

The Romance Review

Lei-lei, what are you doing? Are you on drugs? Are you on an acid trip? We return to Leila's train wreck of a relationship with Joseph, Matt, Aidan and Charlie. Joseph is still her boss and his nickname is "Chairman of the Whore". Seriously, who dates a man known for whoring around and is proud of it? That would be Leila who is uniquely qualified as her alter-ego Charlotte, a high paid prostitute, er…escort.

I did tell myself I wouldn't read the follow up book to Leila's whoring ways because it was a hot mess. I'm glad I changed my mind because this book was better and the conclusion satisfied me. In this second installment, Leila is now dating Joseph. They are into a bit of edge play with some blood play. It's not really knife play because knife play doesn't usually involve blood. When there is actually blood dripping, then it is a bit more than just knife play.

The writing style of Ms. Morgan is different. There are flashbacks in the middle of a scene as well as inner dialogue during a scene between two characters. This is deliberate as even the other character mentions it in the story. Leila tends to zone out in the book which Joseph calls her on. The reader can sense Joseph's frustration. As a reader, I'm just as frustrated as Joseph. The random allusions to Alice in Wonderland did make me feel like I was on an acid trip. Even Joseph mentioned this oddity in Leila's non sequitur references. I think these types of tangent works better visually in movie or TV show. I recommend Ms. Morgan refrain from this type of style because it breaks up the flow of the story and tends to throw the reader out of the storyline. I also recommend better transitions between these scenes to smooth out the flow.

The struggle and conflict in this story was more realistic and I enjoyed it. I liked the blackmail theme and while I wanted to slap Leila upside the head, I guess I can forgive her since she is young and stupid. Her response is not how I would have done it, but then again, I don't have a big secret like she does. I would like to clarify that I'm not against prostitution or high paid call girls. I'm actually indifferent to this industry. What I take exception to is Leila's issue with it. The fact that she has to disassociate her time as an escort with a different personality is disturbing for me. I actually prefer Charlotte more than Leila. At least Charlotte is honest in her feelings and desires, even if she is merely a persona Leila slips on.

As far as the characters go, I am completely enamoured of Joseph. He is dominating and just so bloody HAWT. I'm not sure why the other characters in the book accuse him of being a prick. I like him just the way he is – ruthless at times. When he takes care of business, he does it so well. I think my favourite character is still Aidan. He's a blatant bisexual who is over the top and comfortable in his own skin. I love his self-confidence. He's not flawless but he's a perfect friend. Moving on to Charlie, why does he keep getting pulled into Leila's messes? I think he receives a bad rap. I like the pieces of Charlie we see. Finally, there is Matt. Matt, stop, just stop. I really don't like Matt. I am happy with his last gesture for Leila at the end, but it really didn't need to happen if he didn't initiate the events forcing Leila into the position of blackmail. Overall, I am much more engaged with the characters this second time around.

The conclusion to this story met my needs and I felt good as each issue was tied off and resolved. I admire how Joseph fixed everything. I lost more respect for Leila due to her amazing ability to make situations from worse to totally screwed up. I give this story a three and a half star. I recommend this story to kinky readers who enjoy conflict and a main character who finally realizes she needs to be comfortable with herself.

--3.5 Stars--

I bumped it up to four stars because the story is actually quite good. The characters are very well developed, I liked the plot of this book--we were able to see a deeper side to Leila (and Joseph for that matter) that we didn't get to see in book 1. The reason why I couldn't give it a full four stars was because while Lucy's writing style is beautiful, I think the metaphors and similes sometimes got away from her. It got to the point where I was expecting them and not in a good way, but if there was even 10% less the book would have been great! With that being said, the book is still a good one and worth a read.

I wavered between giving this book three or four stars. In the end, I decided on four. I did this because not only is the writing good, but because it was refreshing to see a happy ending for a character that may want something different than what is socially "acceptable."

That being said, I did prefer the first book in this series. I didn't read this one quite as quickly. Part of it seemed dragged out but overall, it was a very, very good series.

Things I liked:
-The character development. Lucy Morgan built upon the roots she planted in the first book and it resulted in wonderful characters that made me laugh, smile, and want to be happy.
-Leila. She grew as a person and though she still had a lot of doubt, she became more secure in who she was. She's always been strong but even in her vulnerability in this book, she pulled herself up by her coattails, and I'll always love a heroine that doesn't cry in her bed all at the first sign of trouble

Things I didn't like:
-The whole climax could've been very easily avoided. It seemed a bit contrived. She had plenty of ammunition she could've used but she just backed down and it seemed out of character
-Some of the relationships seemed rushed
-I would've liked to seen more of Leila's relationship with both Elise and Clemmie
-I would've liked to have seen worse punishment doled out to the "villains"
-I would've liked more of Aidan's backstory because I LOVED him

Overall, a great two-book series that stayed fresh and kept my attention!

Be sure your secrets will surely come to light…

Leila is a lawyer in training who, to pay a family debt, became a whore in her off-time in Chairman of the Whored. She never knew how much she would enjoy the freedom that lifestyle gave her. In this newest installment, Leila has paid her debt and is out of business …or so she thought until someone decides to blackmail her and she almost loses everything…including her heart.

This is the second book in the series and the author does drop details to keep you up to speed, but I think you should consider reading the first story to fully understand and appreciate Leila and Joseph and their story. I have loved them both. With that said, this book didn’t disappoint with the twists and revelations and especially the smut. Although, I did find myself skimming some of the smut to get to the rest of the story – that is not a bad thing – the story is that good. There is, of course, some knife play with more blood than even Leila & Joseph were prepared for, a great F/F petting scene that would make a nun want to renounce her vows and a flogging scene that will keep you from sitting down for a week. The Prayer continued with the same characters we met in the first book and a few others that I hope get their “happily ever after” in the future. Aiden and Matt return and we are fully introduced to Elise and Kenji who show us that even goody-goody girls like to be bad sometimes.

Leila & Joseph don’t disappoint in their tangible desire for each other and even though Joseph is known as the “Chairman of the Whored” we learn that even the boss has his limits when it comes to his “lawyer”. It is an obvious love that even they don’t realize until they are too deep to be saved. Lucy Morgan did a great job of taking us to new places with Leila and Joseph and their now “out in the open” relationship. The competition for a place in the firm that Leila has worked so hard for is within reach and she is surprised to have it all – the job and the man. Like many women, she wonders if she truly deserves to be happy or not. Ms. Morgan uses references to Eve and the apple in Eden, Alice in Wonderland visuals and especially the wolf claiming its prey in her endeavor to help us relate with Leila. I would have to re-read some of these sections to be clear on her meaning, but they had a place in the dialogue so it wasn’t overly distracting. At this point, I am accustomed to Ms. Morgan’s writing style and British brogue so it worked well for me. When it comes to relating the images in her mind, Ms. Morgan is a becoming a master at giving you a full visual so you can see exactly what she sees without being overly descriptive…she just skips without warning sometimes in that inner dialogue.

I continued to love this character and completely related to her struggle of accepting the good in life. Leila is not ashamed of what she has done and is open with her love of her dark side with Joseph, but that doesn’t stop her questioning her decisions and her reasons as to why she likes this type of…yes, that scary 4-letter word…love. She has worked hard for what she has accomplished and she still doesn’t apologize for it, but just when she thinks she can relax and revel in this newfound bliss, someone tries to take it all away. To save those she loves from being tarnished by her past, Leila attempts to make right what someone else thinks was wrong. While you can be sure that your secrets will surely find you out, the truth will always set you free...especially with the Chairman on your side…

I highly recommend this book for those that like their cake and to eat it too…

The Whored's Prayer. Lucy V Morgan

Whored Book Two. Sequel to Chairman of the Whored.
I was given this copy free for review, but as always on the basis that my opinion is honestly held, and whether paid for or free my views are not influenced by that. Integrity is important to me and gushing false reviews do neither author or reader any favours. As always my views are what I honestly feel about this book.

Lucy has sharpened the knife again for another erotic peep into Leila's world. As part of his taking over Leila's last three jobs Joseph has bought her service for the week long New York trip with the firm. Leila isn't sure how it will work, it means her colleagues will know she is with Joseph, but in his usual I Am Important way he sweeps aside any concerns and does what he pleases. Explanations to other people are not something he concerns himself with. Matt still carries a torch for Leila and is jealous of Joseph, her old call girl colleague Aiden arranges to come to New York too and there's some jealousy and back stabbing going on within the other protégées. So far all looks fine :) Joseph seems to know what Leila/Charlotte really wants and begins to push his darker desires onto her seeing how far she will go with them. Aiden befriends Matt – an unlikely partnership and not least because being bisexual Aiden would like to have sex with Straight and traditional Matt... Joseph and Leila decide to try to have a proper relationship but as always the path of true love never runs smooth, the knife bites sharply and wounds are formed.

Another sharp and biting novel that entrances, engages and appeals to the sensual, erotic side of our natures. Carefully written to show how Leila and Charlotte have been created Lucy gradually harmonises the two alter egos with Joseph's help. From being a tough harsh unfeeling boss we thought he was he shows a tender side to Leila although its hidden in what seems cruel dark sex but he knows just what she needs. . In this book there's heartbreak and betrayal, blackmail, erotic and sexual scenes, wedding but no funeral and with what I love best – the Happy Ending. I'm a sucker for that, can't take romance without a HEA.

Its around 275 pages for £3.93 in e-book version and well worth the money. Again Lucy only uses what words needed to make the story flow, no fluff and fillers here, just tough, gritty drama. There are what seems some very dark scenes, and some may find them too much but they are needed to carry the story through properly and we see just how they've come to be. Its another fabulous read that had me laughing at some scenes and then in tears at others. Real drama because we feel we know the characters so well have they been described.
Again I'm giving this 5 stars – and I’m picky about my ratings so this is genuine not one of those raves about something that doesn't deserve it. If Lucy goes on to write further novels I'll be first in the queue – she's clearly a very talented writer.

This is not cookie cutter erotica. No dungeon play or dark dom guiding an initiate. Yes, boundaries are breached, breasts plundered, and transcendent orgasms are torn from between trembling thighs. Lots of orgasms. But in Chairman it's your brain that gets off best.

When aspiring attorney Leila Vaughn discovered that her parents had effectively bankrupted themselves to put her through law school, she was compelled to save the family estate. At least, that's what she's told herself is the reason she committed to a year of moonlighting as a high-priced hooker while finishing her internship at a London law firm. What she hadn't counted on was how much she, or at least a part of her, would love the life. Her prostitute persona, Charlotte, proves so vibrantly sexual that Leila may never be able to reintegrate her two selves again. Frankly, she's not sure that she wants to. Then enter two men in her life, each appealing to the two different women she's become.

I love this book---as well as its predecessor, "Chairman of the Whored." Lucy V. Morgan is a genre transcending author, the 21st century's Erica Jong. She's really that good. The writing is crisp and classy, rich with freshly turned metaphor. Leila struggles with the lot of the original Eve, armed only with an apple to negotiate the sexual politics of love and law. Leila's experience as Charlotte confirmed that she could never live a vanilla life. She must grapple with whether she can find in real life the palette of flavors she craves. Inevitably, circumstances spin wildly out of control, threatening to strand Leila down Alice's rabbit hole with neither job nor lover.

Leila's inner dialog sets the two books series head-and-shoulders above others. She has a delicious British twang, dark feminine humor and surpassing affection for all. I was privileged to read the story in an early incarnation, and what started out as terrific has become sublime.

~7 years after i first read this, this is one of my favorite books to reread, i come away highlighting new portions every time i reread, the prose/turn of phrase just add so much intricacy and glamor to Leila's melodramatic life.

i find that UK romance authors are quite good at writing consistent and continuous banter that really build the characters and make me so fond of them (esp the bond between aidan and leila). the side characters in this are so intriguing and they are the best among the author's published books. for example seth and matt are both are complex, it's unusual for the secondary characters in romance to achieve this level of complexity (namely matt's infidelity obsession, pointed out by aidan) since they normally merely serve as a reflection of the phase of life the protagonist is in, her needs and misfits. and the tertiary characters are as complex as other romance authors' secondary characters.

the prose is pleasant and indulgent of leila's philosophy on sex, which is a bit different from aidan's, it goes into sex and ceremonies of intimacy so deep that i don't find the prose gratuitous at all. at times when leila talks about herself in the third person in the opening portions of new chapters, it feels like a gossip girl episode opening lol where a blogger is making self indulgent observations, i don't find them repetitive because of the depth the characters offer imo, and it provides a nice rhythm and structure for the two books. i'm realizing most of my favorite romances would make for good tv shows, with the episodic formats of oncoming drama and big casts of characters.

i think the big conflict of this book is logistically overdramatic but thematically converges a lot of things leila is eventually going to have to deal with (plus it moves up the i love you proclamation from joseph to much earlier), so i appreciated the torment a lot! i don't even skip them upon rereading.

After reading the first book in this series, Chairman of the Whored, this one was an auto-buy. Lucy V. Morgan created characters that are as fascinating as they are frustrating, then threw them into a tangled mess of emotions, sex, and love. Even better than that is the writing itself - lush, dizzying prose that is sensual even outside of the sex scenes. I was very happy with the way things ultimately worked out for Leila and I hope the series is continued because Aidan very much needs his own story told.

Mi-a placut si aceasta a doua carte a autoarei...continuarea cartii Breaking Leila, desi mi-a placut mai mult celalalt titlu: Chairman of the Whored.

So incredibly hot! Could not put it (or the first book 'Breaking Leila') down. Read both pretty much non-stop, in 1 day. And will probably keep going back to read it over and over.
Despite being seen from Leila's view, All the characters are well described and relatable. However, would have loved for some of the story to be from Joe's point of view.
Definitely worth reading

Great ending... I love the way this book, or the whole story, ends; to lose everything and come back stronger. It's funny how things almost come back full circle for her best friend. Some of the heartache may not have happened if Leila had introduced them early on. The chase scene in the snow is beautiful...

Loved this sequel! It was just as good, if not better, than the first! The ending did not disappoint, and I just can't get enough of these characters...and all those steamy scenes - WOW! Ms. Morgan really topped herself with this one!

Very good conclusion to the series.

Leila has to deal with trouble from jealous people. An ex, ex coworkers, trouble just smacks throw in everyone seems to hate Joseph, no matter how much she defend him.

When everything comes to a head will anything be as she wants it?

The steamy conclusion to the Knives and flowers series. And I definitely love it!!!!!!

Joseph and Leila totally deserve each other, there were bumps and problems along the way but surely they still found love on their unconventional set-up. LOVE IT!!!

It was a decent end to the series. However I hate how they tried to set Matt up with Clem, it should of just been an awesome threesome for life.
