This is a simple and straight forward biography which has a nice every man feel to it. Gibbs is not an intellectual, but he is a man who is a home with who he is. He's a football coach. He is a Christian man. He is not some superstar hung-up on himself. This is not a play by play account of his every game as a coach, but a book which has higher objectives, and that is a simple apologetic for the reasonableness and trustworthiness of Christianity. Through Gibbs' ups and downs and moves as a coach, he shares honestly and forthrightly, especially his financial disasters of the mid to late eighties, when he should have been riding high, but due to his honest admission of greed, was a painful period in which The Lord taught him and matured him in many ways.

This book can be categorized in both Sports and Christian genres. The coach goes into a lot of detail in the career path that led him to the head coach position for the Washington Redskins. From there, he talks about that Super Bowl winning team, focusing on key players and key wins and losses in the season that led up to the championship. He also gives a lot of credit to his wife, Pat, and how she held the family together while he pursued his career. And Gibbs also talks a lot about his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

All in all it was an interesting and entertaining read.

I appreciate Coach Gibbs' candid writing. He shares his own failures and weaknesses, accepting the blame for his bad decisions. What a wonderful marriage he has enjoyed with Pat! I am inspired by her courage and faithfulness to her husband and family. I admire strength and perseverance and reading how God uses our individual gifts and abilities to work in us and through us in the lives of others. May God continue to bless this family and their efforts to serve Him.

This was a great book written by football coach Joe Gibbs. I really enjoyed this book because Coach Gibbs made you feel like you were in the huddle with the Washington Redskins as they went after Superbowl championships. What I liked most about the book is that Coach Gibbs explained his coaching style in a way that the reader could relate to their lives, even if they aren't athletes.

Written just before his last Super Bowl win, Gibbs talks about the highlights and lowlights of his career as well as how staying true to his faith got him through it all.

A great book for obtaining insight into the mind and character of a real winner! Joe Gibbs was a great football coach who knew how to win at life. Yes, he made many mistakes along the way, but he never compromised his integrity.

This is a book, not so much about football, but about meeting life's challenges head-on and overcoming them. Coach Gibbs, the Washington Red Skins "Winningest Coach," applied the same skills to sports that he applied to life - he never wavered from them.

In this book, you learn the importance of character, integrity, commitment, and faith! Coach Gibbs placed his faith in the almighty God, learning that football is a call from God by which he could minister and influence countless others.

A great book. Well worth the time to read it.

You really get a feel for what Joe Gibbs the person (versus Joe Gibbs the coach) is like. His candor and humility are very refreshing.

"Striving for happiness through achievement should not be a goal. If it is, you'll never reach it, never attain it. You'll be disappointed and frustrated and maybe even depressed all of your life."
