Sentries Series Book Three Sequel to Together Bound

Todd and Nick Ruger are alive and on the run in the Yellowknife Protectorate, but maybe not for long. After narrowly escaping New Colorado, where they were implicated in the assassination of Chancellor Shaffer, they're running out of steam: Todd is gravely ill and Nick's injured. Just when it seems like the harsh winter will get the best of them, they find refuge with a doctor in the isolated town of Elk's Ridge.

On the surface, Elk's Ridge seems the ideal place to rebuild their lives. Nick begins training as the doctor's apprentice, and Todd works in a lumberyard until they're recovered enough to return to their duties as Sentries. They make friends, forge a new life, and most importantly, there's no sign of anyone from New Colorado. They should have known it was too good to be true.

Victor Raleigh, the new Vice-Chancellor of New Colorado, knows all about Nick's psychic abilities, and he wants them in his corner. When Nick is betrayed and captured, Todd sees no alternative but to head back to the war zone to rescue him. But will Nick be the same man Todd loves after Raleigh's pet psychic vampire is through with him?

I was frantic to jump right into this third book in the 'Sentries' series because book two was so fantastic and I just knew this story was going to lead me on another imaginative adventure. The beginning of the story was rather heartbreaking with Nick being desperate to get help for Todd as his coughing and respiration gets worse and worse. However, they luck out when they land in Elk's Ridge and meet Dr. Porter who treats Todd and the bite on Nick's shoulder from their fight with the kelbit at the end of book two. And, just as the kelbit, itself, was completely repulsive, so is the bite it left in Nick. Ugh.

The reprieve and calm that Todd and Nick get in Elk's Ridge is truly a balm for the soul. They have been through so much recently that just being able to relax and take care of each other feels like a miracle. It stands to reason, though, that this time of healing isn't going to last and the identity of the betrayer came as no surprise. Nick is stolen from Todd and returned to New Colorado City and the vice chancellor. The vice chancellor's evil pet is worse, even, than the kelbit was. Jah'lar uses your emotions to trap you and he can make you feel either safe and loved or give you immense fear and pain. I didn't like him (there's a shocker).

CHAINED HEARTS is the third book in the Sentries series, and really, I have no idea how poor Nick gets through each day. He has had so much thrown at him and it's not over yet.

Nick is suffering from PTSD following the attack by the Kelbit. Todd is also suffering with his health but refuses to see a doctor as he is too busy trying to find a way for them to survive and go to ground. They do find a small town where a reprieve awaits them but all good things must come to an end--and it does, for them both.

This was such a great book but I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you read it as a series or it just won't make sense.

Todd and Nick still manage to get some steamy times in but Nick is put through the wringer once again. I am loving the overall story arc that runs through these books but I can't help but wish they had some time to move that along, rather than be sidetracked by Nick being kidnapped.

The world-building continues to amaze and the characters are just as interesting as ever. Some new ones to like and some to dislike. I'll leave it up to you to figure out which is which.

Thoroughly enjoyed every word and I can't wait for this series to continue. Absolutely recommended by me.

The author manages to straddle post-apocalyptic paranormal fantasy romance genres quite successfully with this series so far (there's still three books to go). Some of the Master-Slave dynamics between the MCs may prove off-putting to readers. Whilst I find Nick's insecurities (overwrought) and Todd's emotional volatility (grating) at times, I'm happy to continue with the series.

This was really hard for me to rate. I really, really love Todd and Nick and the relationship between them, but nothing (and I do mean nothing) happened for the first half of this book. Much as I love these 2, I was rather bored. Of course once stuff started to happen it took off. I enjoyed it. If I had to rate based on the relationship it'd be 4.5 to 5 stars but the story only gets 2.5 to 3. Going with a middle of the road 3.5. =/

Todd and Nick are looking for somewhere to live, where they don’t have to worry about someone recognizing Nick. Just as they find a new town, Todd becomes ill and Nick struggles to get him help. As they settle in, Nick has made an enemy and he soon finds himself in the hands of Raleigh. It’s a tough time with only his dreams of Todd, but the psychic vampire is a hard one to battle. Can Nick hold on until Todd comes for him or will Raleigh’s hold prove too tight?

Todd and Nick are back. They are on the run after the circumstances from Together Bound, so yeah, you have to read books one and two (bwahahahaha). But, Todd is falling ill (although he says allergies) and they are trying to find somewhere to live. Nick and Todd finally settle in a town, but trouble follows them and a spiteful person makes Nick’s life hell. When Nick is taken, Todd follows as quickly as he can, but it could be too late to undo the damage.

Whoot. Whoot. Now, boys and girls, I have told you that you need to read both previous books and that is so you can fully appreciate the world we find ourselves in. it is set in the future, after a disaster that leaves mankind reverting back to the old ways, but psychic powers emerge, monsters come out and ghosts linger and slavery comes back. If you have read the previous books then you know all about Todd and Nick’s relationship and what they do. if you haven’t, *scowl*, then Todd and Nick are master and slave, a bonded pair, mates and love each other to death and they work, or worked for the New Colorado Protectorate as Sentries protecting the surrounding area. Okay, happy now? *looks around and nods* Good. So Nick and Todd have a solid relationship, which is pushed to its boundaries and stretch it to its limits in this book.

This is a really well written novel, which holds your interest from the start, as we see the struggle to find a new home; with Nick’s nightmares and fears, with being wanted men, with someone sniffing around Todd, with kidnappings, escape, rescue, betrayal, more escapes, nasty baddies, feelings of guilt and the total love that Nick and Todd have for each other. I am fully expecting there to be a number four story, because this ending just left me with the expectation that there will be more adventures for Todd and Nick.

So, if you love post-apocalyptic, futuristic, adventure, danger, hot loving, psychic powers, guilt, angst, and an expectation of more to come then this is definitely the book and series for you.

This is the third book in the Sentries series and it’s strongly recommended that you read them in order so you’ll know all the players.

This story starts out at a much different pace than the first two. For the first half of the book we see Nick and Todd in a new light as Nick is still suffering from injuries he sustained in book two and Todd has come down with an illness.

They come across the town of Elk Ridge, a quiet place that Nick and Todd both fall in love with, but there is darkness that follows them wherever they go. Nick is dealing with horrific nightmares and Todd is dealing with a woman who cannot seem to understand that he and Nick are mates. When the time comes for the action to begin, we find that it’s not only creatures that are a threat to our two heroes, but that danger can lurk in even the prettiest of places and it has the means to separate Nick from Todd.

Nick is taken captive and made to do unspeakable things, while he comes to crave the reward for doing them. The thing responsible is insidious, turning Nick inside out. We also meet a young man named Adam who has his own special ability. Is he friend or foe? By the time we find out, will Nick and Todd survive? Will the being responsible tear them apart forever, or are their Chained Hearts enough to keep their bond strong?

Todd and Nick have tried to move on from their last ordeal but nightmares and sickness plague them. We get more of their dynamic and see how much Nick means to Todd and how much Nick fears losing Todd.

The powers that be are once again interfering in their bond and we have a new creature attacking our protagonists. While I found Nick’s situation difficult, it wasn’t as frightening as in the last book. We are introduced to new characters and old ones are brought back. We also get a few more pieces in the Sentry puzzle of why Nick and Todd were bound in the first place.

The back and forth POV works for the most part, although there were a few scenes I would have liked to have seen from the other side. There were some distance and time issues – it took a month for them to get to Yellowknife territory but only a few weeks to go back to New Colorado.

I liked Nick a little more in this, though he still falls in to maudlin self-pity. I hope we see him gain some confidence and strength in the next few novels.

On to the next!

This is the third book in Noble's Sentries series and continues on directly from where the second book left off. It is perhaps, also my favorite so far.

Still living in their wagon, Nick's bite wound has yet to heal, even though a month has passed since they escaped together. While Todd is hesitant to risk their safety, he knows that Nick needs medical treatment. But it is not until Todd spikes a dangerously high fever that Nick finally gives in enough to go - and not for himself, but for Todd.

This story takes both Nick and Todd through a variety of highs and lows. Just when they feel that they may have found a refuge, it is ripped away by their past; a past that neither realize may have roots in how they were paired up in the first place.

This is a story on two levels - one that is essentially resolved by the end of the book, and another that we are only slowly becoming aware of. Parts of the second story have been given in the two earlier novels, but it really only in this novel that their relevance becomes clear - but only clear enough to hint at what lies beneath it all.

Hmm, may just have to read the next one sooner than I had anticipated...

Okay, so we're giving this one 4 stars because I do love the dynamic between Todd and Nick. Obviously they care about each other, but over the last couple books you can really see how their relationship is still continuously evolving and I like being part of that journey.

What made me drop this down to 4 stars instead of 5 was really only because there were times when some scenes I felt like should have been the opposite POV. Also, you miss out on Todd's entire rescue because you were in Nick's head and he was really out of it thanks to some pretty strong drugs. It just felt a little off at times is all.

Anyway, I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a distopian world no the verge of a new war with genetically enhanced super soldiers being stolen from their mates.

I really enjoyed this addition to the series. Loads of action/drama, angst and whumping, but Nick and Todd's love for each other shines through. I'm also enjoying the arc of this series ie the ongoing story which progresses further with each book although each story is a complete one in its own. It reminds me of why I like to read series.
