While parts of this book read as dated and the massive chapter on Nazi and European conservative environmentalism is a little unwieldy - how can one not appreciate cannon book in South Asia environmental history. I will never look at WWF India the same.

A very interesting topics discussed on this book. However, in some chapter, it discussed many unrelated topics (like going off-course in many instances of certain chapters), dealing too much on the past, structures or biographies which sometimes derailed the course of the book topic. I hope there is a new update of this book in the near future, with now the current Aravalli range issues also included on it.

this is a pragmatic account on how the environmental agendas get picked up by Hindu communist groups like RSS or VHP from time to time, how the definition of pollution is changed in terms of Hindu mythical utopia, how the early vedic era is glorified and minorities are alienated. The writer picks up Tehri Dam and Brindavan issue to illustrate his point...highly appalling in nature this will question the direction & intention of our environmental movements and subsequent collateral damage in social fabric !
