Viola Challerton, Lady Avery, had survived the scandal which had followed in the wake of her wedding to the Earl of Avery, one year ago. Less than two hours after their vows had been exchanged, Richard, Lord Avery, had absconded and was not expected ever to return. When he did, Viola quickly learned that little had changed, except for herself!
Viola married Richard after a short acquaintance. Right after they're married, Richard overhears Viola speaking to her aunt about the marriage and abandons her for one year. Viola, a green country girl, is able to overcome the situation with the help of the Earl's sister and friends and becomes accepted by the ton. The main plot is what happens after Richard returns.
I've not much to say about it. If you love a book that starts with a misunderstanding that could have been resolved with a conversation and continues with the same misunderstand until the last couple of pages, then you'll love this. I could not stand the two main characters misinterpreting each other every single time they came together because of this plot point. The two stars are only because I actually finished the book.
