A biography of the civil rights activist who organized the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, which acted as a labor union for Pullman car porters, and crusaded for equal rights for blacks in the armed forces, military industries, and in labor unions.
Robert Cwiklik was an editor at the Wall Street Journal for more than sixteen years. He is the author of House Rules, about a year in the life of a freshman congressman, and several books for young adults and children.
A good introduction biography for a 5th or 6th grade reader. They did not go in depth in how difficult this time period was. But it is a nice first book on Blacks and Labor Unions. I wish they had said more about the Pullman Porters.
