This is one of the best books on cats I’ve ever read. It takes us through the ages, all the way to classical antiquity and on through the renaissance. Art, folklore, magic, occult, mythology, history…this is one for any cat lover to have on the shelf. 🌞🐈⬛🌘
A fascinating compilation of cat lore over the centuries. Unfortunately the author at times gets carried away by his obvious belief in the occult (see his other works). There are also some evident inaccuracies, that I picked up which made me worry about some of the rest of the book. For example he mentions a "witch stone" near me but manages to put it in a town 10 miles away from its actual location. However, as a very readable overview with lots of things to follow up, plus a reasonable bibliography for a work aimed at a general reader, it's pretty good.
