This is the story of a vision, of a dream that became reality and left an enduring impression on the modern theatre. This vision was Habima, an acting company destined to stir two continents with its dramatic technique and influence the course of the theatre throughout the world. Born in the turbulent days of the Russian revolution, Habima was not only the first collective theatre but also the first to play in Hebrew. Two goals beckoned its earliest members. One was the need to create for the theatre a new and vital form, a form that could give meaning and direction to its audiences. The other was a desire to recreate among the Jewish people an awareness of their identity, of the majesty of their history, of the lyric grandeur of their language.
