Johnny Stone is an author with a very vivid imagination, and he knows how to use it! Best of all, he can put it on paper to share with the rest of us.

Step outside of your ordinary reading comfort zone and fasten your seatbelt for a ride through the galaxy to a planet called Slave World, where slaves are bought and sold, and no fetish is too kinky.

Margo Winters is an Independent Freighter Pilot who, on a routine slave delivery, crash lands and her "freight" is let loose onto her ship. One of the escapees recognizes Margo, and knows she has a secret; it's this secret that he uses to change Margo's destiny. To condemn her to a life of slavery. Sold then bought by one of the sadistic owners of Slave World, Margo is then altered forever in a way she never imagined. Collared by the Master, Margo is then sent for training for her new role in this very bizarre world.

Fortunately, Colonel Nathan Burke, a man from her past, is her Trainer, and it's with his assistance that she not only survives, but comes to accept, and even embrace, her new existence.

There are many twists and turns in this story, all of which will leave you turning the pages faster and faster to see what happens next, all leading up to a very climactic ending.

A cast of very convincing characters, each that you will either love or hate, makes up this kinky story. The only thing that could make it better? A sequel!

Slave World - I think it was for planets like this that God created Suppernovas.

I really didn't know what to expect going in but I found this to actually be a very interesting SF novel. In fact, you could make just a few cuts here and there and probably make this into a mainstream novel. I grew up reading this kind of stuff and it kind of gave me a nostalgic feeling.

Margo had had quite a hard life: An incestuous relationship with her father that ended when she was 12 when he died in an accident. The usual traumas of post-traumatic stress syndrome for someone who spent years in all-out combat. The death of her lover in her arms. It was no surprise that she was such a mess at the beginning.

Nathan I warily liked from the start. But I was impressed by how much he cared about Margo and how much he wanted to help her - especially when he learned the things I wrote about above. I expect a certain standard for someone who calls himself a Marine and he easily met that.

Michael - dumbest villain I have seen since Sempre. You take two of the deadliest people in the galaxy and put them in the same room together. My only complaint is that he never should have been allowed to live that long.

The Pony Stuff - not my thing. And I was disappointed by Margo's decision at the end. But perhaps Nathan isn't done yet - he obviously is waiting on something before he proposes. I do have to say one thing: The funniest moment in the story - Margo has been enslaved and genetically altered and then gets taken to the cafeteria, given a menu and she gets to order a cheeseburger. I can't quite think of a similar moment in any other story I have read.

The Party - You always know in a novel that when the bad guy throws a party it isn't going to be good - see Beloved Vampire and Butterfly Unpinned. I am kind of disappointed that more people didn't get their comeuppance.

Nathan and Donna (and Margo) made a huge positive impact but this is still a pretty terrible planet.

Read and reread this numerous times during the writing process, so I think it's time to call it good. Just plan on paging through it from time to time at this point until SW2 is finished
Not going to rate, because I'm not a fan of doing that with my own work.

I am still a bit shell shocked, not at all what I expected. Without pulling a spoiler alert, this is not for everyone and I do mean that, so if you don't have an open mind out of respect for the writer don't both reading Slave World. The writing is very detailed, as the story unfolds you don't realize at first this is just not science fiction with dark sex. Psychologically its heavy going deep into what is taboo to many people. A few times I had to stop and ask myself do people have desires or the need for power this dark? I'm sure they do that is the real scary part. Fantastic piece of writing. I can't wait to read a sequel. I wonder if The Island of Dr Moreau couldn't use a rewrite? *evil grin*

*Book source ~ A review copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Nathan Burke is an Overseer on Slave World. A combat veteran with years of experience in making people toe the line means he’s an ideal candidate for running the lives of the sexual slaves in his keeping. However, he hates Slave World, hates his job and most especially hates his brother-in-law who runs the place. But he has his reasons for staying.

Margo Winters was one of the best pilots in the Fleet, but those years are long behind her. With a bounty on her head she’s barely scraping out a living running illegal cargo. When a cargo run goes bad she loses everything including her freedom and ends up on Slave World where her path crosses Nathan’s once again.

This book is one crazy well-written ride. I have to say I never really thought to combine Sci-Fi with BDSM, but this story really works well. The characters are so lifelike I feel as if they should walk up and knock on my door so I can invite them in and hand them a cold beer. Margo is flawed, but gutsy. She’s a survivor and now she’s learning something new about herself that makes her life on Slave World more tolerable. Nathan is…ahhhhh, Nathan. *sighs dreamily* I’m half in love with him. Hard as nails, tough yet fair and a moral code as deep as the far reaches of space. Plus, he’s a Marine. How could you not love him? He’s not perfect either which makes him even more likeable as a main character. He does the best he can in a shitty situation and when Margo comes along he has even more motivation to do something about his circumstances.

I read Stone’s Steam & Spurs and enjoyed it, but the writing was just a tad rough. In Slave World the rough edges are smoothed out and his writing really shines. The plot is great and the BDSM isn’t too extreme except for the body modifications and even those aren’t as bad as I thought they would be. Maybe because I’m in the mindset that this is Sci-Fi. Of course, without it being Sci-Fi I don’t see how the many of the modifications would work. Anyway…in other words, while I enjoy BDSM and consider myself Dominant, I’m not much of a sadist and don’t particularly enjoy the really dark BDSM stories with what I consider extreme torture, pain and body modifications. This story is not too much nor too little, but just right. Well, at least for me. Some may not like any of it, but I know I’m really looking forward to reading Slave World 2: The Ties That Bind.

3.5 stars.
Imaginative and entertaining sci-fi, combined with a hefty dose of BDSM, much of it non-con.
Like another reader, I was somewhat surprised at the time it took the protagonists to get together. I felt that the exposition of Margo's past and how she came to be enslaved could have been revealed as back story during the course of the novel without harming the book, and would have got the action going sooner. While I can understand why the author chose to follow the direction he did in setting things up, it did take almost a third of the book before hero and heroine finally met. As a result, the "real" story - their interaction and its consequences - seemed to take a while to get going. But once it did there was no let up!
Nathan was a true, stand-up hero in the old-fashioned sense, and all the better for it, and it was impossible not to find Margo a sympathetic character,
The body modification was as drastic as sci-fi can make it, but I never felt repulsed by Margo, The body modification itself, and the BDSM and erotic scenes were all deftly handled, and, while some readers may find the physical transformations disturbing, the descriptions were not as graphic as I expected.
The mystery element of the plot was intriguing and the action scenes gripping. I also found myself wanting to know more about Nathan's and Margo's military pasts and the war in which they were involved, which says a lot for the author's world-building abilities. It made me wonder why he has not yet published his first military sci-fi story, as I'm sure it is a genre in which his expertise and imagination would serve him well.
Enough said. On to Slave World 2.

Loose ends

If there's one thing I have no tolerance for in a book, it's loose ends. There are so many questions left unanswered in this book, I'm really frustrated. Why was Cirus given free reign with the mares? Why the breeding program if they were given drugs to make them infertile. The book was an interesting concept. Unfortunately, I found the sex scenes more gross than erotic and not because of the force (I like dark) but because of the adjectives used. Just not impressed.

I was expecting dark erotica, so Mr Stone surprised me with the emotion and romantic tension between Margo and Burke. I was on edge to the end, never quite sure where it was going to go next, but enjoying each step of the journey and found myself totally immersed in the world building and the description of Slave World. Can't wait to read more.

I don’t normally read Sci-Fi, but I read this as it was a featured Book of the Month in my Goodreads Group.

Margo is an ex-military pilot, now running her own freighter along with her android ‘partner’ / lover, and a lively voice-only AI unit for company. After an exciting space battle, during which I was glued to the pages, Margo was captured and ended up on the scary sounding Slave World. To make matters worse, Margo has been implanted with a controller that turns her crazy-horny, literally at the touch of a button.

If I was scared before, now I was terrified. I suddenly realised he’d made me into the perfect, obedient slave that any number of buyers on Regilain would be sure to want.

Can things get worse? Yes. Her new ‘Master’ (Michael) has a business modifying his slaves into animal hybrids and selling them as sex toys. Margo is genetically modified into part-pony, complete with furry ears, tail and high pitched whinny – and selected by the sadistic Master for his own use. Salvation comes in the form of one of the slave handlers, Nathan.

“That may be true,” Nathan breathed like the hand of death itself. “They may belong to you, but let me make one thing crystal clear.” The chill in the air sent a racking shiver up and down Michael’s spine. “If you ever hurt Margo like that again I’ll come for you, and there’s nothing you, or anyone else on the sick fucking planet can do to stop me.”

Nathan knew Margo briefly when their paths crossed in the military and it takes little for him to fall in love with her again, even with her modifications. Slave World was a fast paced story with plenty of kinky sex (well it was an erotica read!) and some tenderness between Margo and Nathan. There are plenty of colourful secondary characters, including Michael’s slightly strange wife, Donna, and the wise-cracking AI system in Margo’s ship.

While I read this book quickly, and certainly enjoyed the beginning, I struggled with the genetic modifications and found it difficult to enjoy the book from that point on. It was a little like watching a car crash. I didn’t like what I was seeing, but couldn’t look away.

I’m rating this with 3 stars. I would have liked Margo and Nathan to get together earlier – to have more of their history – and I found the slave modifications disturbing. Johnny Stone doesn’t shy away from pushing boundaries in fiction and he’s a writer that I shall definitely be following.

This book clawed at me, tearing at emotions I generally try to prepare for before going into a book. It constantly made me question myself and my reason for continuing to turn the page. A good story teller, if the subject I'm reading is appalling yet, I carry on because I'm captivated, intrigued, and curious. I was eager to know what happens to the characters in the end of the story because I grew to care for some of them and hope they had a good ending.

The first 35% of the story is a lot of stage setting. It was a bit dull for me and I found myself skimming through the description of scenes. Then I was propelled into a whirlwind of emotions for the main female: pity, disgrace, anger, sadness, horror. Stone has a way of dulling the heartache of emotions, though, by having the character somewhat accepting of her situation. The story then picks up from here and I was hard-pressed to put the book down. I really liked the main male character. He was a fighter and loved Margo and his sister. He was selfless and strong and he and Margo were a perfect match.

If you are faint of heart or wanting something light and fun, this is not the book for you. The subject matter contained in this story is absolutely degrading to human beings. Although Stone is not overly descriptive when it comes to beatings or tortures, I sometimes found that the imagination can conjure even more disturbing images of the means to an end without the aid of words.

I must admit I found this book tough going at first as the sci-fi bit is really heavy...it reminded me of star wars which I must admit I'm not keen on.
I've never really read a pony play book before, this again is my first. It's an interesting concept, and again I've decided not for me. This act I find just too demeaning and not loving in anyway. I have horses myself and could see some comparisons, but this for me was a big no.

I found myself very emotional thought out this book, of how Margo is such a victim...she is so willing to help and do the right thing all the while, and yet life seems to go against her. Even at the end, fate has left her permanently disfigured, how is that justice to someone who is clearly a lovely individual who would do anything for anyone even at her own expense.

I loved the sex in this story...even the pony sex, this is really hot and definitely warranted 4 stars. I would read this again, and another read, but at least the next time I will be more prepared to how emotionally attached I felt to the characters. This again is an outstanding achievement for the author, that I felt very much part of the book, that I felt emotionally involved. I did actually feel very sad and on the verge of tears at time, so well done x

This was a great read could not put it down. Johnny Stone knows how to spin a tale and is definitely on my favourite author list. At times I had to read over some parts of the story just to make sure I had read it right. I hightly recommend this book.

I would like to give it a 2.5 stars because it was a little more than ok for me.
First I will start saying that Johnny Stone is a good writer. Most his characters have depth and he explains them really well to the readers.
Slave World was not an easy read for me, I found the book very disturbing on several levels.
As I would like to mention that my rating is not so high, mainly because of my disconfort with the theme. I usually don't like much sci-fi such as "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" and the beginning of the book was a lot like that. I was really close to giving up when Johnny threw a curve ball. It shocked me and it made me go through with the book.
I am not certain if I would have picked that ending, but it was surprising. I believe I will read a follow up of the book, because I am a little curious where this is heading.
One thing I have to say: JOHNNY STONE is a very creative and imaginative person!

The writing style of this book is different than I write in or am used to, so it took a little for me to be able to get into how it was written, but once I did I was grateful I had managed through the transition.

This book is steamy, and in a manner that you wouldn't expect yourself to be enjoying. But, I found myself unable to control my utter enjoyment of some scenes, the erotic nature of them, the underlying sensuality and the overt sexual tones of the entire book.... I was drawn in and unhappy to see it end as I had wanted more, much more. I recommend this book to anyone willing to take a chance on a futuristic sci-fi erotic book, as it is well worth the read.

I will add in that I found a few grammatical errors that seemed to have slipped by the editing process, and the ebook version I purchased (epub) had some formatting issues. Otherwise, it was easily readable in the ebook format.

Well, the premise was intriguing, but I felt the execution was below average. The story went from predictable to almost random, and threads got dropped in several places.

If you were hoping for strong BDSM, well there is a good amount of forced sex, but the more extreme scenes were "fade-to-black" and recounted later - "Why is my butt sore? Oh yeah, I remember..."

I will give credit for a creative ending. The resolve of the HEA was not what I expected, but it was earnest and true to the characters.

***5 amazing stars!!!***

Wow...just wow! This is my second time reading this and I loved it even more this go around. Slave World is a place I wish existed. One I could buy a plane ticket to and disappear forever as an altered pet to a (loving) Master. This book crosses the line in so many ways and that is one of the things I love most about it. Mr. Stone, yet again pushes past the boundaries of what most would deem "comfortable". I wish only that this was back in circulation.
