Then Jade realizes the mistake she's made in her spell, and she wants him gone. But there are charms to spare in Mystic Manor, showing Mason that the witch in the house might be the woman he's been waiting for. Convincing her, though, means coming up with a little magic of his own.

Has anyone else ever sheltered through a hailstorm in the mountains with a skunk? If I put this in a book, you'd think it was made up, right?

Wrong. The story of my first week of wedded bliss could be titled "How Not To Spend Your Honeymoon." My husband (still) has this thing about seeing what's over the next hill. Did you ever notice that what's over the next hill is another hill? And if you're not watching the sky, black clouds can roll right in, open up and toss out big icy chunks of hail, not those puny pea-sized balls. So there I am, on my honeymoon, trying to keep my cool, and the only protective covering was a small building on stilts. It seemed to be part of a ski lift operation. (Don't ask; neither of us ski.) The skunk was there first, but to its credit, it shared without raising too much of a stink. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

People are always asking, "Where do you get your ideas?"

Does my honeymoon give any clues??

The idea for Two Weddings and a Feud was born in a flash flood on the Current River, during the Great Flood of '93 in the midwest. That's when I learned how fast I can break camp. Fast!!! Five of us moved everything uphill--tents, canopy, canoes, all the gear, even the fire where our steak dinner was cooking--and didn't lose anything but two days' time. We could've hiked out sooner, but leave our canoes behind? I don't think so.

During research for Alligator Alley, I had the opportunity to pet a tiger. He was on his side of the bars and I was on mine, thank you very much. I also wanted to see what the Everglades were really like, so I hired a boat and went out into the alligator-filled waterways. Awesome!

Wedding Knight research material came from a long-ago trip to Spain where I poked around old castles. I have pictures of my brother-in-law climbing the ruins. He didn't break his arm until he came home and stood on a chair to fix something, thank goodness. That kind of research I can do without.

I've had several books published since the first one, in 14 countries, last count. A Date on Cloud Nine has been picked up by Doubleday and Rhapsody Book Clubs and is going hardback. I get fan mail from countries where the books weren't released, so some of them have travelin' feet of their own. Some I enjoyed writing more than others. But I always, always enjoy the research.

2009 Update

Sometime between the finish of Witch in the House and its release, I developed seasonal affective disorder (SAD). I don't know if you know much about SAD, but there are no tests for it. The only way you know you have it is when you have a couple really rotten winters in a row, and then you go, Oh gee, that happened last December too. And then the doctor says, You have seasonal affective disorder. Well, okay!

Life can do a one-eighty pretty fast. I went from hours-on-end at my desk, writing books, to reading beneath a special lamp many mornings, and just generally getting out more during the daytime. Neither is conducive to the type of writing I enjoy. So, in a nutshell, I haven't been writing much.

As for getting out more, you know how "they" warn us about the sun. It's bad for us, we shouldn't tan, it causes cataracts, best slather on the sunscreen!, and so on? Turns out that sunshine is my new friend. I get out more. I use sunscreen. I protect my eyes with polycarbonate lenses that aren't dark enough to call sunglasses.

In the meantime, I have been receiving more fan mail on Witch in the House than all my other books put together. Many letters are from witches who read the book and wanted to acknowledge how much they enjoyed it, how "dead on" it was. I thank all of you for writing, witches and non-witches alike. I truly enjoy your emails.

It's like sunshine!

It was okay, It may not be quite fair to leave a review since I just finished a very intense series... so I think that’s why I’m feeling a little blasé with this book. It was cute. The story was cute, the characters were cute. Overall it’s a light and fluffy read. There were several things unfinished, but I’m guessing it will all be ironed out in the sequels with the other characters. I’m not in a hurry to follow up with them.

WITCH IN THE HOUSE Paperback version by Jenna McKnight (2007)
In summary- It's dude worthy reading material! Anthony and his friend Mason Kincaid while investigating a million dollar life policy claim, accidentally run across someone accused of practicing the "The Craft", Jade Delarue, she is a witch. Jade is trying to make a living at Mystic Manor and blend into normal society.
HILARIOUS as hell!! especially around trying every way possible to reverse a spell gone a wry all through the book!!
It had me hooked from the first sentence on page one. I could not put it down. Laughing from the beginning. In my opinion, Jenna created her characters in the great tradition as fiction novelist Alice Hoffman (Author of Practical Magic 1995 Novel turned into the 1998 movie). Jeanna's research of Wicca was done in the accuracy and classiness of Constance M. Burge ( Writer, Producer of the television series "Charmed") It is in my opinion, this is a 5 star book. That's what this book should have been classified, and the author classified in the ranks of the authors I mentioned above back in (2007).
Jenna, thank you for a great book!

This book was okay. I've read better but I've certainly read much worse.

I liked the idea of having the "love interest" be an almost clone of Pierce Brosnan. I thought that was a nice touch. :) I didn't like the lies the main male characters told to the main female character in order to spy on her and stay in her bed and breakfast. I thought it went on way too long and she (and her two friends) forgave them way too quickly.

Parts of this book were cute such as Mason trying to woo Jade by making snowmen in the front yard that resembled the townspeople. But for me, this book just didn't "flow" and the cute parts did not make up for the lies and easy forgiveness.

Honestly, I thought this was going to be great. Then it wasn't. If the main characters weren't getting it on, they were /thinking/ about getting it on. The plot fizzled away into nothing. And the big romantic gesture at the end felt forced. Really forced. Not even Hallmark movies feel that forced. If you just want to read a bunch of sex scenes sort of tied together, maybe give this a try. If you think even your paranormal romances deserve real writing, skip it.

The book and the characters were cute. It was an easy quick read. Some of the plot devices were left unexplained, maybe in another book. I was disappointed that the other women, the missing husbands, and the mysterious black wolf are not really discussed. It’s mostly about Jade and Mason. Missing opportunity for developing more of a mysterious and magical environment.

Started out super strong. The story was great, the romance could've been better written. It was great until she tried to actually get them together and I couldn't love any of their scenes of actual romance interaction. Hard to picture.

Really loved it. I’m disappointed the rest of the series never got written. I really wanted to know what happened next and maybe the big mystery to be cleared.

Witch In The House by Jenna McKnight was utterly adorable. If you like the novels done by Annette Blair you will most certainly love this. A witchy romance that will make you laugh out loud and not want to put the novel down.

Jade Delarue is a witchy sex kitten in stiletto's who turns heads wherever she goes. Wavy hair, long legs and green eyes so bewitching you'll be instantly seduced. She's a witch who knows her stuff but the spirits have a great sense of humor with her.

Mason Kincaid is a Pierce Bronson look alike to the t. Dark hair, steel blue eyes and a six pack of abbs to die for. Ouch, don't touch that it's hot type of man. Yumm! Poor Mason is down on his luck with being jilted at the alter and after a few drinks and a witches spell he ends up at an unexpected, don't want to be here place. He loves diving and warmth but ends up with snow and cold. That'll teach him to tie one on. LOL!

The story starts out with Mason getting jilted at the alter, getting drunk, then finding himself in cold weather with a buddy who has found them a job at a B & B. Upon arriving at the B & B, Mason turns to stone as soon as the door is opened and reveals a goddess of a woman that's certainly too beautiful to be real. Wow talk about steam heat. Whew!

You have a novel of witchcraft, mystery, romance, hot steamy sex and screw ups that will tickle your funny bone to the max. It is smooth, consistent and just overall great. What more can I say. If you miss out on this one then you're seriously missing a real cutey.

Jenna McKnight has done such a wonderful job with this novel that I am already salivating for the next one in the series. Kudos for a story that details witchcraft, gives us a romantic ending that will surprise the best romantic and a mystery that goes from page one to the very end.

This story is about the life of a modern day witch named Jade. Six years ago her husband vanished without a trace. Jade Delarue finally decides she needs to move on with her life so she casts two spells that accidently merge into one spell, bringing a man who looks like ovie star Pierce Brosnan appears to her door. Working for the insurance company, private detective Mason Kincaid investigates the disappearance of Jade's husband. Jade believes Mason is a photographer who's here to take pictures of eagles for a nature book. Eventually, they fall in love but have to overcome their many secrets.

This is an very entertaining supernatural romance that keeps the reader laughing in every page. I really liked this book because it is a very funny love story. I liked how the author creates two main characters who are complete opposites of each other, but despite that, they eventually fall for each other. I also really like how everything in the book is somehow connected; for example, Jade was the one who cast a soul-mate spell that made Mason's fiance ran away with the guy that hired her.

My favorite part of this story was how desperatly Jade tried to chase Mason away after she figured out that he was brought here because of a spell she'd cast. Of course, none of them worked but it was really funny to see her try. I loved how at one point, she was so desperate to get him out that she put on really worn and ugly sweats, went into Mason's room to paint the bathroom walls, and try to get him disguisted with her so he'll leave on his own.

This was an easy fun read in the paranormal romance category. It was something I picked up on a whim, primarily because it was a paranormal. It did delve into the paranormal in that it gave information on witches, witch celebrations, and some differences between a witch and a Wiccan.

It did irritate me a little - not the author's fault - when the back stated that Mason had "thrown himself into his work" in order to show up on the female protagonist's doorstep. Well, that was misleading: he was dragged there by his best friend and erstwhile best man in order to break him out of a drunken pity party he was holding after being jilted at the altar.

I did also take exception to a pivotal character not showing up until at least 2/3rds of the way through the book... and the fact that the primary issue (3 missing husbands) was not dealt with completely. But then, there are 2 more books planned, so hopefully the men will be found or at least accounted for.

It did not indulge in extreme sexcrobatics like so many so-called "romance" books do, but touched enough on the subject to let the reader know the liking between our two main characters had chemistry behind it.

Overall, a fun read but not on my list to read again.
Update 5/4/2020. I did read it again, because it was so forgettable that until I sat down to add a review I didn't remember it at all, and that is highly unusual.

Checked this book out from the library on a complete whim, and I'm SO GLAD I did!! I feel head over heels for Mason and Jade, and this story really drew me in. Stayed up way past bedtime a couple of nights, one-more-chapter'ing myself until my eyes were too heavy to keep open. The dialogue is fun and flirty, and I got a lump in my throat a time or two.

This is definitely a sweet romance, with descriptions of their sexual exploits limited to simple phrases like "her ragged breathing mingled with his until they were both sweaty and sated and limp with release" - so not overtly erotic or descriptive. The focus is on the development of the relationship, not on sex, and there's some good growth and development and changing of attitudes there. I also loved the small town variety of supporting characters, especially Weezy.

Can't wait to read the next books by this author about Jade's witchy girlfriends, Annie and Courtney. Hopefully some of the unresolved over-arching plot points will be resolved in one of their stories.

Witch in the House is SHOCKER about a witch and her house.

It was an okay fluff beach read, or for me, a sick in bed for 3 days read.

Jade casts a spell to bring happiness to herself and a separate spell to bring happiness to a man who has been jilted at the alter thanks to one of her spells. The candles she used melted together...and...(insert inevitable shenanigans when he shows up at her door).

The one really nice part about this was the lack of sex sex sex sex sex sex SEX. It was just a sweet little romance between Jade and Mason.

Oh and the fact that he is apparently a dead ringer for Pierce Brosnan didn't hurt my amusement either. ;)

It is the first in a series, but I doubt I will be seeking out the others. This one was enjoyable, but didn't grab me and the other women who would be the main characters in the future books both also fell flat. Jade was the most interesting of the three which isn't promising.

i cant even...what did i just read? I got like 5 chapters in and though i understood the plot i had no clue what the characters were talking about half the time! There were tangents and non sequiturs. "Oh is that a tiffany?" "Yes he installed it" what what?! And the hero got slapped multiple times but not really i guess? And was anthony gay? i seriously was so lost. And while i wouldnt necessarily say this was an inaccurate portrayal of wicca it wasnt a great one either. First they overloaded readers most of whom probably know nothing about wicca about really technical details of a ritual. I'm wiccan and i was bored reading it. Then there were minutae that im not sure are totally accurate. For instance ive never heard of using ruby to speed up a spell and i just checked 3 other sources that dont mention it being used that way. I could probably get over that but i was just too confused to make this work. DNF

This was my first Jenna McKnight book, and I hate if this sounds harsh but it WILL be my last. It started off very strong for me. I loved Mason and Niece, but as the story went along I felt it had no purpose. And Anthony his best friend was a breath of fresh air. I love the open mindedness of Mason, it was kind of unreal to me though, funny when he woke up with the bar tender but unreal. After a while I couldn't just got lost in all the words and jumping and I had a very very had time sticking with it, I know there is going to more than this one but it just didn't end well for me nothing was resolved of great value except for the HEA. And could a man be more whiney about cold than mason was geEZZZZ.... All in all there was no spark, there wasn't even any really good Banter, I was very sad about this book because it was first attempt in to the realm of witches...

Basic Plot: Jade casts a spell to find the man of her dreams, but Mason needs some convincing.

Romance novels: what to read when you absolutely, positively don't feel like putting any work into reading whatsoever. Mind you, this isn't always a bad thing. I just prefer a bit more quality than this book provided. The plot was horrendously formulaic. Two strangers instantly attracted to each other. Build sexual tension. They finally get together. They fight. They get back together. The end. Bleargh.

There is one redeeming quality to this particular book, though, and that is the respect that the author pays to the Craft as a whole. No TV/movie nonsense, no Satanism- just respectful homage to the rituals and belief system. Other than that, one big yawn.

Jade and Mason are very lovable characters. I went through this book with speed and determination; beginning to end in nearly 24 hours. The book has the feel of two stories entertwined, one of Mason after his drop at the altar and Jade's new life after accepting her husband disappearance six years ago. Jade is on the brink of inhereiting all of the money from her late husbands insurance policy, and Mason is working as PI for the insurance company making sure the husband really is gone or dead. Although Mason can not control the mack truck that just ran him over when he stepped through Jade's door. Only Mason does not know that he may be here because of a spell the Jade conjured that went completely wrong. Now it is up to Jade to clean up her mess before it is to late.

I enjoyed this book. it was a cute and fun read. I only have 2 complaints.

there was an odd bit in the beginning when in Mason's perspective. the way it's written it makes it seem like something is happening but then mason's inner monologue says something along the lines of "but of course that's not what happened." it made for a confusing bit of reading and maybe that was intentional as the character is supposed to be drunk or hung over but I feel like it could have been written in a much less confusing manner.

my second complaint. I think the book wraps up too quickly. I would have liked a little more in terms of resolution because it seems to just suddenly end all misunderstandings and conflict a bit too quickly.

overall I really liked the book though. it was a cute and quick read

In Jenna McKnight’s Witch in the House, P.I. Mason Kincaid’s life takes a turn for the worse. His fiancée Brenda leaves him standing at the altar by way of courier who is accompanied by a note and a bill from the florist. Who she left him for. Yeah. His partner/best friend Anthony forcibly removes him from his drunken stupor and kidnaps him from toasty Aruba to frigid Missouri. Accepting a job, the men are to investigate Jade Delarue...

This was my first McKnight book and I was fairly dissapointed the story didn't had a good ending for me and they never solved a thing at the end it wasn't worth it all the text and the plotline if it wasn't going to be solved!

If the husbands are missing and they send people to find about them and in the end nothing it's going to come up why on earth does she mention them? It doens't makes sense to me! I finished it because I was sure sooner or later everything was going to be explained but no, no closure at the end of this book. It may have worked if the book had a slightly different plot line, but oh well!

I liked this book, but I felt too much was left unanswered. Mason was my favorite character - I liked his determination and personality. The chemistry/tension between Jade and Mason was comical and enticing. So I really liked the story, but I had a slight problem with the writing. Too much was left open and there are no more books to answer certain things, which was promised in a note by the author at the end of the book. I wanted to know: what did Jade’s mother send her?, what happened to the three missing men?, whose dog is that?, does Jade know about the third cellar? And so on…I just wanted more.

Not a bad book. It was actually pretty cute. But I'm confused. Normally when there is this type of story, there is some type of conclusion......... or it is the beginning of a series. As this was published in 2007 and I haven't seen any other books that relate to it, maybe I'm missing something? Maybe I haven't looked enough? What about Annie and Courtney? What about the 3 missing husbands? Do we ever find out what really happened to them? Do the other 2 witches get their story too?

This is my first Jenna McKnight book. And I'll admit to not really going through her other books to see if there is more to this story. I just do not like books that leave questions unanswered.

This definitely falls under the category of "fun fiction." McKnight delivers a bright, fun tone even as the two leads try to evade, deceive and generally drive each other crazy in the best way possible. This is listed as the first book of a trilogy, but it's been out more than a year. I do hope the other two books focusing on Jade's widowed friends come out. I'm looking forward to them. I'm also going to seek out McKnight's prior books, which is a high compliment considering the size of my "to-be read" pile.

Jade is a witch. She has a good track record with her spells. One day she casts a spell for a client and one for herself at the same time. Only the candlewax of both run together blending the spells. When Matt shows up at her door, she treis desperately to use her magic to make him go away. Meanwhile he has his own purpose to being there.

This was a charming story, with romance, magic, humor and a Pierce Brosnan look-a-like hero. A very fun, entertaining read.

This is a nice, sweet romance featuring a witch. It is the first in a trilogy of three best friends whose husbands mysteriously disappear six years earlier. There is a little intrigue surrounding their disappearance, but not much in this book. I imagine it will be a larger part of the other two stories. I plan on reading the other two. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a little romance and anything witchy.

(Published in 2007) Imagine wishing for a Pierce Brosnan clone and having him walk through the door. That’s what happens after Jade casts a spell that goes awry. She tries to undo it and send him away as soon as she realizes who he is but no one cooperates. Not him, not her friends, and not the universe. Fun & witty with some hot attraction, Mason and Jade are fabulous characters who make this an excellent read.

Really loved this story. It was a very enjoyable read as it had all the facets of a lovely rom-com. I didn't laugh out loud but I did chuckle from time to time. I think I had a grin on throughout most of the story.

This book will not change your life, but I do think you'll thoroughly enjoy it if you're into a good classic rom-com with charming characters and a light, and yes predictable, plot line.

Witch in the House is a fun supernatural romance. It reminded me a bit of Practical Magic where a witch casts a spell for a perfect man and then finds she cares for him to much to want him there against his will. But honestly the part I loved most was the description of Jade's conservatory complete with a waterfall.
