Six small-town teenagers decide to make a ghost hunting documentary for a school project. Their exploration throws them blindly into the realm of the paranormalbe careful what you look for.
“We're all of us haunted and haunting.” ― Chuck Palahniuk, Lullaby
six senior high school students team up for a Journalism project. with Halloween approaching, they decide on a making a video documentary about urban legends in their hometown of Harvard, Nebraska. what they capture on film and audio was more than they bargained for. with her knowledge of paranormal investigation and a very vivid imagination, author Kris Sedersten has given us another hair-raising story of murder, possession, hauntings and ritual sacrifice. from the first page to the last, she has created an atmosphere thick with mystery, suspense and horror. the pacing is fast and there is never a dull moment. every little detail is well thought of and promises to raise goosebumps now and then. however, this book is not just about things that go bump in the night. there is more to it than that. it is also about friendship, faith, love and redemption. this novel is also a prequel to Mojo which recounts further what happened to Scottie Brown, one of the teenagers who left for New Orleans after the harrowing events he and his five friends went through together. as sunlight fades and the shadows stealthily creep in, Lost Mojo is one of those books that you would want to cuddle up with if you want to treat yourself to a good fright.

Lost Mojo by Kris Sedersten is the prequel to the novel I've previously reviewed, Mojo. Revised since it's previous release, this novel sports a haunting tale of young ghost chasers and their indoctrination into the world of the paranormal.
Overall, this novel has a great plot and likable characters. There's a chilly aire to the novel pthat perfectly brings out the eeriness of the paranormal, you know, those feelings that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Cleverly devised, Sedersten is masterful at bringing you into the haunted worlds she creates sucking your into the story to where you stay up late into the night just to see what happens next.
The only critism I found in the novel is that some of the dialogue can be a little rigid. Every now and again the flow of the story is broken by the rigidity, but the overall enjoyment of the novel tends to make one over look these minor bumps in an otherwise smooth road. Also, the perspective shifts can be a little sudden and even blurred in places making you have to take a moment and sort out where in the world you are and who's eyes you are seeing it through.
In the end though, this novel is a definite must read. I found it to be enjoyable and addictive. Definitely what I've come to expect from Sedersten when it comes to ghostly tales and she delievers full force! So if you're in the mood for a chill, be sure to pick Lost Mojo up, it won't disappoint!
I love the idea of investigating urban legends in a small town, especially paranormal ones, so Lost Mojo blew me away. (It always seems to be the teenagers who get into the most trouble with urban legends, because the adults are either too busy to care or have just written things off as something that they can’t explain; so, I thought the characters in this book were totally believable and maybe even relatable for some people.) The natural inquisitive nature of these characters keeps them guessing about what could be really going on, but they have no idea what they’re really in for as things get darker and creepier with every new discovery.
Scottie Brown has been experiencing nightmares and apparitions for a long time before he decides to take action, the decision being propelled by when the dark presence starts to affect the other people around him. Playing detective with his family tree, he discovers that the ghosts of his ancestors-people who he thought were out of his life for good-have come back to haunt him and have entirely too much influence in his real life for his liking. The physical danger inflicted by the paranormal forces propels Scottie to an ultimate clash with his personal and familial demons that will leave readers everywhere with goosebumps.
Lost Mojo reminds us that writers can craft detective and murder mystery novels without taking themselves too seriously. Sometimes, the paranormal can even get involved, and the reason that people can’t explain what’s going on is because they-perhaps literally-can’t see what’s going on right in front of them. Kris does a great job of writing in a teenage voice, blending a little bit of naivete with the headstrong tendency of teenagers to think that they know what’s going on in the world around them-until they’re proven oh, so wrong. This novel is a great read when you’re in the mood for something that’s a little bit darker that keeps you guessing.
I felt like Lost Mojo was different from most mysteries because usually with detective work there’s a sense of implicit danger or something is being delved into that could potentially end badly for a protagonist. In other cases, things seem scary and there are things that just might be lurking in the shadows, but we can’t totally tell...here, the danger was more outright, because we knew from the very beginning of the book there was a murderer on the loose, luring people into traps. It just made the book even creepier, knowing that things could end badly at any point, but I couldn’t bring myself to stop reading until the crazy end.
Kris Sedersten has done it again...if you liked Mojo because of its spooky plot twists and turns, you’ll love Lost Mojo just as much. This book, even though it’s the second one in the series, is actually the prequel to Mojo, which is actually really helpful because there were several moments in Mojo that left me confused-now we get to see the back story, and find out how everything got started. But overall, this book was just as creepy and thrilling as its counterpart in the series. I can’t wait for more from Kris.
Lost Mojo starts out with a murder of two girls from a small town in Nebraska. Cut to their friends, a group of high school kids, who are getting ready to investigate a series of urban legends for a creepy, Halloween-themed journalism project...but the group ends up finding more than it bargained for when a video documentary produces some creepy footage and makes them wonder what’s really been going on in their small town.
Going back in time and finding out what happened to get Scottie to the point where we started in Mojo was awesome. Even though we began in the middle of the action in Mojo-and I really liked that-I wished sometimes we could have found out a little more. I don’t know if Kris is telepathic or if she just wanted to improve on the story herself, but my request was answered! This book was just as good as her first! I can’t wait to see what’s next.
I am deathly afraid of urban legends so even though a friend recommended this book to me, I was skeptical. However, I am a sucker for paranormal activity so I couldn’t say no. This epic journey of murder and mayhem ends on Halloween where good and evil finally come together...who will prevail? You will have to read to find out!
