A simple text and vibrant photographs of dancers from around the world demonstrate the traditions and exhilaration of dance as an important part of various cultures.
George Ancona was an author and photographer who has published more that one hundred books, some of them bilingual. He was known for his exquisite photography and close-up looks at a variety of cultural subjects. He lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
I used this book as part of a storytime for 2-year olds. I didn't read the book, just showed some pictures to give them some idea about the diversity and universality of dance (not using those words, of course!). It was an excellent book for that purpose because of the large photographs that fill most of each page.
This book discusses all different types of dancing that happens around the world, and in different cultures everywhere. People can dance alone, with a friend, or in big groups. Even people that need wheelchairs can dance. This is an awesome book about inclusion and would teach a classroom about so many different types of dance that even I didn't know about! Super cool!
