Jason is a seventeen-year-old kid living with his dad who's only interest in his son is how to make money with him. You think dog fighting is cruel? Warnings: m/m, abuse, rape Words: approx 133,000 complete - 50 Chapters
I'm a finnish girl and I've been writing stories for most of my life. Until now no one has ever read anything I've written but since discovering AFF I decided to share a little bit of what I've done. The kitty in the avatar is my kitty, isn't he adorable?!
A good free fic; the author is English second language so there is the odd grammatical or spelling error (i.e. trashing in bed, instead of thrashing) but honestly, the writing is better than a lot of my Kindle fiction from Amazon. The fic is dark, man, and gets very sad in places, but there is redemption and a very HEA. 50 chapters, complete.
It took me a while to actually sit down and read this book because I actually didn't think it would be very good. I was pleasantly surprised. I know I have seen a list, on listopia, for the worst parents ever and Jason's dad needs to be on this list. The story was non stop and no boring or slow parts for me. I was protective of Jason and didn't trust anyone that came into his life. They had to prove themselves. I still don't trust Ron.:) Overall, this was a good story. I like that the author gave Jason a chance in life and it was done in such a way that it flowed with the rest of the story. Jason acted as you would think someone in an extremely abusive relationship would act. Quite depraved and I enjoyed it all.
There was definitely a lot I was willing (albeit grudgingly at times) to forgive because it was a free read.
I think the way it handled things wasn't bad. It's definitely thought-provoking, especially regarding psychiatrists and foster care and providing aid to those in need (although most of my observations are personal, so I'm not going to go into detail).
I thought more would come of the Benton/Troy character arc, but I don't really have many quibbles with that. I suppose it kind of makes it like real life; sometimes you meet people you think are going to be really significant in your life and they kind of float away, whereas some whose present you never suspected would become so prevalent do.
I'm starting to feel like I need a shelf for thought-provoking vs evocative-or-edifying...
This is a free read, and it shows but that does not detract from the story. It's well plotted and the characters are fully realized. I can only imagine how amazing it would be with a little polishing given how already impressive as is. There are a few plot points that I think should be explored or expanded, some general grammar and word choice issues but I loved this story. Every character was fully developed and every issue realistically portrayed. This is a story that I would gladly pay for if the author decides to polish and publish. :)
A few translation issues, but was easy enough for me to over look. Just little things like the word on instead of in, or one instead of on. Those little words actual caught me more the bigger word differences. Just enough to make you blink at it for a moment, but not enough to drag you out of the story.
The first half was just full blown, never stop...never even paused, abuse. It never stopped. And I could not put it down. I made it through all of that, dry eyed. The towel and bunny were heart wrenches, but it wasn't until 62% "I fixed it for you" that I lost it. I was blubbering like a baby and couldn't stop for several pages.
Even though the part that got be blubbering was from the 2nd half, the first half was actually more engaging. It was just that one nice moment, after all the horrible that hit me so hard. (Sorry, I'm being vague, trying not to not give spoilers....if it still sounds spoilerish, tell me, and I'll put up a spoiler hide)
If you like Dark (with a touch of romance...kinda) then this is for you. Read the warning tags...if you have issue with any of them...then RUN, because it is not watered down.
3.5 stars. The first 50% or so details the physical, sexual & mental abuse that 17 year old Jason receives. Second half describes his salvation from said abuse. Traxie has english as a second language and it shows, still an engaging read however.
Honestly, if you told me this was a true story, I would believe you. In life, people you think will have a drastic impact on your life often don’t. And then, there are people you see in passing who end up changing your life within hours! I truly believe this author when she says that the characters in her head scream for her to write their stories! Because that's what she showed me: the story taking on a life of its own!
What a relief that he didn't end up
✾✾✾Gonna drop a few moments that made butterflies/worms swim in my stomach.✾✾✾
When Jason started to say ' grinning' my heart fluttered. When he tried to look presentable after Jonathan raped him so the Cave won't throw him my heart broke. His first sentence without stuttering made me soo proud. These moments touched me so deep it hurt.
This book is so difficult to review, I personally hated the subject matter, and was just too close to home for me personally . It should come with a very big health warning ...the fact that this book covers child abuse, sexual, physically and mentally. It makes reference to boys/ children as young as 4 years, but mainly covers the life of Jason, who's 17years at the time of our introduction. His farther is a drunk, and his mother died when Jason was young. He's abused by his fathers friends, and his father protitutes him, but sending him to the "club", where he's paid for sexual favours. He never sees any of his takings, as his father is paid for services rendered by Jason. Unfortunately for me, his farther appears to never pay for his crimes, and it turns out he was involved with more than sexual abuse!!!. I could cope with this book if I knew this was a true account of someone life event, as it's known this sort of abuse does occur and it's extremely tragic and goes on under our noses, but without our knowledge. What I could not come to terms with, is that this was written for entertainment..why?, what is the author trying to achieve?. Are they trying to draw attention to this crime, that generally goes undetected?. They make reference to neighbours witnessing Jason emaciated conditions, yet no one helps him (Benson and Troy), he eventually helps himself. The author appears to have a knowledge of police procedures, such as using a pay phone number to identify a location, social services and the fostering system. I felt this story was extremely moving and emotionally motivated, and unfortunately something I can not return to. I found myself an emotional reck by half way through the book, and I did struggle to complete this story. I felt so bad for Jason. I just wanted to find him, hug and protect him. It's well read from that aspect, but the grammar still needs attention, even though it has already had some editing. But I di find that it was such an emotional read that the grammar and spelling paled into insignificance. They were lost in the translation of the book. This is definately one book that you can loose yourself in, but not a happy place. It does have a sort of Hea, but I would have liked so much more It's a book about survival against the odds, and that if you work it out for yourself and with the help of the select few, then you can manage anything. It may not be what anyone wants, but at least it's managable, and there always someone to help if you know where to look. Also look with your eyes, don't ignore the obvious, and take action. I will not be returning to this, but I'm glad it was picked for me to read. I don't regret reading it, but I can't do it again!.. I wanted to give it one star, just because I hated the subject matter, but I just couldn't do it, as I did think it was a good book in its own right, but I couldn't in all consciousness give it more!!!.. This subject was a big no no for me for entertainment, but a huge yes if this was a life story. Then I would give it a big 5 stars, despite the grammar!!!!!!!!
I am giving this 3.75 stars.... The author's second language was english which led to errors, but they were easily overlooked for the most part. I really deduct stars for the way it ended and how it was rushed and glossed over in the end. This story was F'd up to the power of ten... but it was morbidly compelling at the same time. I had to know what happened to Jason. Overall I enjoyed the story, despite wanting to kill most of the characters, especially johnathan, the keeper, and that damn dad. If the author had took more time and put more work and effort into the second half of the story, then this would have been a much better read. as it stands, it is full of characters that have no story, and characters that are just filler for shock effect. It left me wanting for more, I would love a revamp of this if the author took more time to fully complete and round out the characters and give more soul to the story...because right now I feel like it's just a written version of shock art.
Okay, I have read some real intense books that stray on the dark side of things. While this book does have dark topics such as starvation, noncon and emotional/physical abuse, I wouldn't say it is the darkest book I read. I did get teared up when it came to the the toll it took on Jason (i.e. stuttering and the bunny). I did enjoy the characters that Traxie developed, however please be warned it still needs a decent editor.
There were only a few things that I feel still need answers, and they are: 1. Was Jason tested frequently, and or the customers at the Cave since condoms were not used? 2. At the end, when charges were brought up against his dad it seemed like the fighting was left out of the equation. 3. There seemed to be more with the character Benton (unless I read too much into things), but nothing was every expounded upon. 4. In the epilogue, it would have been nice to get more info on Tristan. 5. In the epilogue, it would have been nice to know what Chris was moving on to instead of just an apartment.
Other than that, this fanfic kept me hooked and came to the end pretty quickly. In addition, it was a free read, so what is to loose by trying it out? I will definately look into other fanfics she has written.
That was a great read. The progress Jason made from his horrific existence to the almost perfect one is amazing, the transformation is breathtaking. I did not even mind a lot of repetition in the plot. If anything, it gives you a very clear idea of what Jason was going through - same kind of abuse day after day after day of his very short life. Granted, there were a lot of typos, editorial and grammatical errors with plethora of inconsistencies. But on the great scheme of things, they did not carry a lot of weight for me personally. However there are some unresolved issues that I (again - personally) think needed to be taken care of. Therefore - 4 stars.
I was impressed by this book. Despite the numerous grammatical mistakes, spelling problems, and general language butchery the story shone through and it was much better than the typical violent child abuse porn story.
Essentially, I saw it as giving a relatively believable version of a child growing up abused. I'd almost believe the author has some insight into such a situation. The depictions of foster care and the main characters emotions were more realistic than what you usually see in these kinds of stories. I hope that Ms. Traxie can get a proper publisher and use her talents to make a living and write good stuff.
An engaging read despite the spelling errors. The one thing that completely ruined the book for me though was the bouncer character, Kevin. Kevin is a bouncer at a club that pimps our children but the fact that he was a willing participant in the club is glossed over. It’s addressed but still glossed over because author wants us to see him as a good person which is why they keep slipping in scenes where he’s nice to the MC. Those acts however are nothing compared to the fact that he literally let people molest children and essentially got a slap on the wrist for it with community service. Can’t get it through my mind. Especially because even though he didn’t realize it at first, he stayed there regardless and didn’t try to change the situation of the many years he was there. Dropped two stars for that.
Jason is a 17 year old kid living with his dad who only interest in his son is how to make money with him. You think dog fighting is cruel? I think dog fighting is not cruel because it is a premeditated and cruel practice. Those involved dog fighting go to extensive lengths to avoid detection by law enforcement, so investigating can be difficult, dangerous and expensive.
Yeah, this was good. There are the initial spelling mistakes that occur because evidently English is not the author's first language, but it is usually just words that are easy to mistake like "looser" instead of "loser" or other things that are easily to overlook. It never made it hard to understand what was happening, so I forgot about it quickly.
Jason's father uses him to make money by putting him in fights and prostituting him off if he is too injured to fight. His dad's friend, Johnathon also rapes him whenever he visits, and that is pretty frequently. The dad abuses, starves, and neglects him, and the only time he is tolerable is when he seems to express a bit of guilt for how shitty he treats his son.
Throughout the story, Jason is continually abused and he doesn't really seem much better by the end of the story. But I think I'm fine with that. I wish the ending had been more final, it just sort of cuts off and I actually had to check to see if there was more to the epilogue. Jason seems to be on the path to recovery and he has a close circle of people who actually care for him.
There are some inaccuracies, and sometimes I wish things were explained properly to Jason. I sympathized for him, I really did, but sometimes you can't help but want to shake him to tell the police and trust people but that is hard when you have lived your whole life abused like he was.
I am sure for some people that the amount of abuse my seem gratuitous or others might get bored of it because it essentially happens until the end of the story. I enjoyed it, and at different points, I was crying, and at other points I was rolling my eyes. I was surprised with how much I actually liked reading this, so it was a pleasant experience all around. That is rather strange for me to say considering the content, but this is the type of story that pulls you in and doesn't let you out.
One quick complaint... there wasn't ever really anyone that I wanted Jason to end up with, even among all the possible suitors. All's well that ends well I guess.
After reading such a powerful, emotional, heavy book, I find it incredibly difficult to find the right words to express just how moving and special this book is! All I can really say is WOW!! The version of the book I read was posted on adult-fanfiction.org back in 2008 by a female student calling herself, "Traxie". Traxie apparently uploaded just one chapter at a time to this site, initially planning on posting a short story yet ending up with this remarkable, +400 page masterpiece. Because it was posted on the site, what I read was formatted differently than published books, allowing me to read the commentary Traxie posted at the start of each chapter. It was interesting to be able to hear her thoughts regarding her progress (or lack of), her reasons for delays in posting portions of the book, her gratitude to those who provided feedback and reviews, etc.. I tried to reach out to Traxie to ask if this adult-fanfiction version of her book was the most complete, most current version yet I did not hear back from her. I still don't know if there are other versions of this book out there somewhere; maybe the book has been edited and published? For me, this didn't matter in the end because despite the website format and need for some editing, the story was EVERYTHING!!! I've never rated a book 5 stars if it had typos and errors yet this story is SO unbelievably engrossing and intense that the minor spelling and grammar errors were easy to ignore. Besides, the author verbalized her desire for readers to point out her mistakes, readily admitting that English is not her first language (interestingly, this was not something that was blatantly obvious in her writing).
***WARNING*** This book is not for everyone! This is a story of extreme child abuse. Many wiill find this book to be incredibly sad, especially since horrific things like those described in the book actually do happen to innocent children every day. If you don't want to read about tragedy and abuse, this is not the book for you! If you do choose to read this book despite these warnings, don't judge Traxie or rate her book low because you dislike the subject matter or found it hard to stomach. The fact that Traxie's story can evoke such strong emotions, even causing somatic symptoms such as stomach-aches says it all: Traxie is a very talented writer! If you do like dark erotica and can stomach the sad parts, you will absolutely fall in love with the characters and you will enjoy a story unlike any other. This is a story that you will remember the rest of your life.
Errr... I liked it because the main character, Jason, and a secondary one, Tristan, engaged my sympathy and turned on my "Mom" button from page 1. Other than that, goodness gracious! Way, way, WAY too much crying by Jason, no matter what he went through. So bad, sometimes I wanted to just hit him upside the head and tell him to get his act together and do something to get out of the shit hole he was in. I know, horrendous, but it's just too much!
The secondary characters are pretty well-developed and serve a clear purpose to move the story forward, or to help the reader get to know other characters better. I think characterization is this author's main (maybe only?) strength, at the time of writing this book.
This story suffers from the typical issues of a serial, posted chapter by chapter. There is no such thing as a logical sequence of events, or even logic itself, to any of what happens. None. Forget about realism or believability. Furthermore, the lack of continuity and editing for content is appalling. The first half of the story is an unending nightmare for Jason, with some spotty improvements, back and forth with no rhyme or reason, starting from the mid-point forward. The amount of ends left loose is larger than those that were tied up. The ending itself is a mediocre HFN.
Still, if you feel the inclination to spend your hard-earned reading time immersed in the trials and tribulations of an abused teenager, who eventually makes it into the light, go ahead. But park your expectations of good writing outside the door, and engage your highest suspension of disbelief, so you are not disappointed.
I thought this story was pretty good. There were lots of typos and just plain incorrect words, which took the reader out of the story, but I understand that English is not the author's first language, so I will give the author a break about that. I liked the HEA, although I would have liked to know where the father went off to. Some of the things that happened to Jason were kind of implausible. Overall, I like the story.
While the writing is very simplistic with numerous spelling/grammar mistakes (since English is not the author's native language), it still manages to be quite a compelling story. It's dark, it's emotional, and it's got a shit ton of pain, but Jason keeps going and makes you want to push through his gut wrenching story in the hope that he will make it out okay in the end, and perhaps even find happiness.
Brutal... I read it in one night, and fell in love with the MC, even as damaged as he is. I think this would qualify as a hard read, as anything with noncom is, with the "redeeming" factor being a happy ending of sorts.
I was beyond happy when Jason began having good things happen to him, rather than one after hideous thing. The epilogue leaves things on a positive note, though Tristan's fate is still unknown, and I really hope he survived as well as it seems Jason did.
This was definitely a very emotional read. i love, love, loved this story and the characters. It would be a total 5 star for me if it was properly edited. i do fully realize that the author did not speak English well, but i'm sure someone has offered to properly revise this (if not, i would be fully willing to).
The name says it all. Sad at times but worth the read. If you can not read dark stories with NonCon and abuse then this book is not for you. I was very pleased with the ending and writing.
