Sweet, informative book about a kid whose family is having another baby. I really liked the picture of baby in the womb and the chart showing the different stages of how the baby grows - helpful for conveying some sense of time to young children. Also, very sweet portrayal of how the older child prepares for baby's arrival and then helps comfort the new baby when she cries. I appreciated: - that this book didn't introduce the idea of jealousy; although it acknowledged that the new baby was a change, the older child's feelings were mostly positive - that the book showed (and talked about) breastfeeding - that the book included Dad as an involved caregiver
This book might be a little wordy for younger toddlers, but was perfect for my 3 year old.
As a side note, I noticed that, like in most other books on this topic, there is absolutely no explanation of *how* the baby gets out of the mom's body! Minor oversight...
A small boy feels the baby kick inside his mother's tummy, hears the baby's heartbeat during a visit to the doctor, and finally gets to say hello in person after the baby is born. Narrating the story himself, the boy shares what fascinates him: how the baby grows inside the womb, unpacking his old baby clothes, and hearing about the day he was born. When the baby arrives home at last, the boy tells how she eats and sleeps and cries, and how it takes a mother, a father, anda new big brother to make this baby feel at home. Told in simple words and charming pictures, this book lets children know just what to expect when Mom's expecting.
Note: Cataloged as a picture book.
This item gives very basic information. T=You can see inside mommy's tum, but she is fully dressed. It does include picture of the sperm and egg, as well as, how the baby grows during the 32 weeks of pregnancy. The story focuses on a new baby in the family.
This book is amazing for small children who's mom is pregnant. Both of my children LOVE this book. I read it first to my daughter when I was pregnant with my son. Now I am pregnant again and both my daughter and son love to have this book read to them. It has great illustrations that explain all about how a baby grows in a mommy, doctor's appointments, hearing the heart beat, the scab that will fall off and leave a belly button, etc. If you have children and are expecting another one, this book is HIGHLY recommended!!
A gently illustrated book showing a preschool boy helping his family get ready for a new baby. Throughout, he goes with his mother to a doctor’s appointment, meets and snuggles his new sister, helps his father wash the baby, and calms her down with a musical toy. The narrative is simple, the illustrations are peaceful and stylistic, and the section at the doctor’s office shows images of a developing fetus to help a youngster understand what’s going on inside Mom.
We bought this book to help prepare our 2-year-old for the arrival of a new baby. The baby is now 4 months old and she still requests this book on a regular basis. The story is simple and covers all of the basics - pregnancy, OB visits, parents leaving for the hospital, baby coming home, baby care, baby nursing, baby crying.
This has been a favorite in our family for years. I like the honest but simple information about fetal development and that the mama breastfeeds. Only downside for me is that it depicts a hospital birth but that is not a big deal. My young kids have all loved it. I usually read it during a pregnancy to introduce the younger ones to the idea of having a new baby.
Hello Baby! By Lizzy Rockwell is a wonderful informational picture book explaining the concept of reproduction. We get to meet a young boy who learns he is going to have a new sibling. He helps his family get ready for the new baby. The illustrations help young readers to understand the concept of pregnancy.
Lizzy Rockwell Pages: 32 Genre: Picture book Reading level: k-3 Published: 1999 Summary: Hello Baby was a great story that i could relate to. It is narrated by the older brother whom is expecting a new sibling. Any person that is the oldest could relate to the brother in this instance because his thoughts were ultimately what we saw. It was excitement, and a whole ton of jealousy as I recall. I would rate this book a 4 out of 5. It was a very heart warming story that many readers could relate to but also prepare their child to become an older sibling.
