3++ stars I am always intrigued by a novel set during the Inquisition, particularly when it involved nuns in a very old convent saving girls. This novel was set around those themes. There was also a current timeline story, in which, of course, the distant offspring of one of the girls was the heroine. Both stories move quickly, and the plot was quite intricate. There was a little unnecessary (predictable) romance. I fully enjoyed the excellent descriptions of convent life in Spain, during the Inquisition and in current times, as well as in Peru, at the time of colonization of Peru by Spain. I also deeply respected the nuns’ unwavering work to provide a safe haven for girls in deep need of safety and care.
I really enjoyed this book! I did listen to the audio as I followed along in the book. This made it that much better for me. I def recommend if you like history. This is a story of a girl who was left an orphan and was taken to a convent. She is then adopted by American parents and when she graduates she wants to find out more about her family and where she came from.
