I have a few slow cooking books and some of them annoy the hec out of me as they involve so much cooking beforehand that I usually decide to just cook a meal in the evening instead and bung the slow cooker back in the cupboard. This book, while still having recipes that involve browning the meat, frying onions and boiling things up at least tells you what to do if you just want to cobble a meal together, bung it in and dash off to work without getting the saute pan out. Of course she doesn't phrase it quite like that, she says "if you are short of time, if you want to use less fat, or simply prefer not to brown the food first".
I've given it four stars because I was pleased to learn how to use the slow cooker without having to actually half cook the meal first but I have only made one of the recipes so far, which turned out very nice - unbrowned of course, in my case and no-one that hoovered it complained.

Very average

A little disappointed as nothing really different on first look. Will give the recipes a go but I suppose for the cost of the book perhaps I expected too much!
