Laura Morgan spent two years searching for the truth about her past, ever since the rainy night when she was found badly beaten and half-dead in a small California town. The attack left her with no memory of her life before that night, or even her true identity. But just when she'd nearly given up on ever finding answers, she found herself captured by a tall, dark stranger who claimed she was his wife.
Three years ago, Simon Randall's wife Meredith mysteriously disappeared without a trace. Nearly everyone believed she was dead, drowned in the dark waters of the lake behind their home, her body never recovered. Only Simon believed she was still alive, a conviction that seemed proven when he found Laura, the spitting image of his supposedly late wife.
Determined to get the truth, he swept her away to his isolated home. Simon struck a chord in her unlike any man she could remember, but was she his wife? The more she learned, the more she began to wonder if this was a life she would want to remember, especially when the attempts on her life began. Someone wanted Meredith to stay dead permanently this time--and the only person Laura could turn to was her "husband."
I really really was enjoying the book but the ending left me dissatisfied. It could only end one way but I wanted something different. Very well written, held my attention, good mystery, and deep attraction. What more could you want. The hero was still in love with his wife and wouldn't rest until he found her and brought her to justice. He thought she faked her death and started over somewhere else. He sees 'Laura' and is convinced she is his wife but she has amnesia and doesn't know who she really is. Then bullets start firing and someone is trying to make sure she never does. It's a very intriguing story and now I am going to look for more of this authors books.
This story is a bit bizarre. The bones of the story is good but it was the Hero's attitude that I struggled with. He's painted at the start as a hard man who only shows his softer side with his wife. The premise of the story is his wife is reported dead but he believes she left him and is bitter about it, views it as a betrayal. That was fine but when he sees a woman who resembles his wife and believes is his wife, in her new life, he kidnaps her so he can get an explanation without her running away again. The issue I had was the treatment of her from this point on. The heroine in the story, whether she is his wife or not(that's the huge question throughout the book), she has lost her memory after a brutal, near death attack, she has fought her way to good health. The Hero after he learns that she underwent this still is hard with her, cruel.
There are lots of red herrings.
Lots of other woman drama in the sense that there is a woman who would like to be his next Mrs. During the separation the Hero hasn't been involved with anyone else. The heroine is friends with a man who would like more but she doesn't feel that way about him.
The plot of this book was good for the most part, but the writing is not so great. I think the author said this was the first book that she wrote. There are A LOT of grammar mistakes that make things hard to understand at times, but I was able to look past it for the sake of finishing the book.
There are so. many. freakin. twists. You think it's this person, and then you think it's that person. Then you think it's someone else, and then you wonder if it's another person. It was kind of exhausting. The author's writing skills are underdeveloped and shallow at times. A lot of things were left unexplained and require you to just accept them without question.
Overall it was a good book. Like I said, the plot is good, just poorly executed. If you can look past that, you will probably like the book well enough.
This romantic suspense had me hooked from the first page. A brutal attack, amnesia and connections. I suspected a couple of persons but what a shocker at the end! Not like a heart attack shocker but still it was not what I had expected. I enjoyed the suspense and the development of the relationship between the protagonists. Good job, Conner!
Was wanting to read something "light" and somehow chose this book which I got free for my kindle. It was not what I expected at all but really enjoyed it. Vary much a romantic suspense story. No bad language. No graphic sex. Just basically a good, fast read of a couple who fall in love amidst some very strange circumstances. The one negative was that the editor did a terrible job with this one. Lots of typos, grammatical errors, etc. If that distracts you too much, you may want to stay clear of this one.
I won't repeat the plot because other reviewers have, but this is a slightly different take on the traditional "woman loses memory/man claims her as his wife" scenario.
The protagonists, Simon and Laura, are attractive (of course!) and likeable characters. I wasn't convinced about the identity of the perpetrator, as (no spoilers) it comes from too far out of "left field" at the end.
A reasonably enjoyable novel, well written and fast-paced.
Laura has spent the last two years wondering what is her real name, does she have a family somewhere looking for her and fighting to overcome the physical and mental problems form the beating that almost killed her two years earlier. Simon appears in the park across the street and she finds him Hard Man to Forget. The story has a wonderful who done it plot and lots of twists and turns to keep me reading about serious sexy Simon and confused Laura.
A coincidence has two strangers cross paths in order to figure out their past... the outcome isn't what they hope for, but it turns out to be for the best... Good story, I was intrigued and caught by surprise... there are a few minor editing errors though.
This is a good story. It is truly a different twist that has been written. I was taken away with the ending. But I am glad I read this story by Kerry Connor. No I was not upset with the ending. Just did not expect that ending. Will be reading more of her stories now.
Keep your friends close but your enemies closer, rather it be you best friend, a business partner or your doctor, everyone has secrets to his and hatred to show. This is like a guess who killed the wife, and is the stranger that is like your wife's twin be her or another lost soul.
Who is she, Where did she go, Why did she leave, Who hurt her and who is trying to killer her now, or is that person trying to kill the man who loves her.
i actually liked the book. i wasnt fond of a lot of one sentence paragraphs, but i think since it was written for the harlequin crowd, it makes sense why it was written that way.
