The May 2013 cover for "The Traitor" is the only change in the book; the text and interior are identical to the December 2011 edition. The current cover more accurately reflects the themes and motifs of the book. (Amazon Customer Review) "Ms. Robertson's third book in her romantic thriller trilogy maintains the same high standard of excitement, suspense, and excellent character development." Like many writers, I penned my first story at a young age. However, a family and a teaching career put my writing dreams on hold until my Advanced Placement seniors conned me into writing my first complete manuscript. That story, which subsequently won RWA's Golden Heart Award in 2006, was THE WATCHER.
From the moment I put my fingers to the keyboard, the barrier between my brain and the paper lifted, the story flew from my mind, and I fell in love with everything about the process of writing.
Raised as an Army brat, I lived in Germany as a child, Northern Virginia, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Idaho, and Utah before finally settling in Northern California. Whenever I visit my sister in Virginia or my brothers in North Carolina and Florida, upon returning home I remember again why I love Northern California, home of the ancient redwoods, the fecund forests and the rugged Pacific coastline.
Hmmmm, I think I understand the formula for this trilogy and it’s a bit tired after the second, hence my not so good rating for this one. And yes, I guessed who it was early in the book.
As soon as I read the first two of the series, I picked up the third. Once again, we meet the determined and independent Isabella, assistant district attorney who we met in The Avenger. She's still after the same bad guy, Vargas, as before and determined to make the charges of human trafficking stick due to the loss of someone she loved. The problem is the irresistible DEA Agent Rafe wants to bring down Vargas for drug trafficking.
The story was paced well. The characters all worked great together to deliver a thriller that often left me at the edge of my seat. The romance and lust was there from the start, its too bad they didn't know who the other was before. In attempts to put that aside, Isabella and Rafe are forced to work together to bring down Vargas once and for all.
Ok. When writing a book with tons of Spanish in it shouldn't you speak at least a little Spanish or have someone edit your book who does?
Holy crap!! It was horrible.
Gender agreement was terrible: "Buenos noches"... spanish 101 right there. and on and on it went. I started correcting it and making notes at one point it was so bad. but then I hit "dolor en al asna" and realized there was no hope and gave up.
And that all happened within the first 5 chapters. Blech.
And in case you're wondering, the english part wasn't that great either.
This was not my favorite in the series but I am glad that it has ended the way that it did. I found all the different languages in the book a bit annoying even though the sentences were translated it really bogged the reading down to work through it all when one can not speak or read that language so that really took a lot away from the book for me. If I wanted to read Spanish I would buy something in Spanish quite frankly.
This one was a slow starter for me. The story was well done and fairly intricate, though. The topic was heart wrenching, obviously. I did like Rafe and Bella. There were some points that were glossed over in a rush to wrap up the loose ends for the finish. Would like to specifically call it 2.5 stars.
This one contains a little more romance, but the story kind of peters out. The action almost takes place off camera, so to speak. You get to like the characters almost a little too late. Add in the device of having two characters from earlier books incapacitated, then you're left with a bit of a hole.
I'd like to have known a little more of the story.
Good third book. Again great combination of romance and suspense. A little lacking at the end as it would have been a better finish to be part of the arrest of Vargas storyline since he was part of two books. Overall though a good read.
This is a great book edge of your seat suspense and a fantastic hero and heroine who have a very exciting journey to their HEA filled with lots of passion Loved it
interesting. strong female fights internal politics, human smuggling and betrayal. the hero and heroine find love and the bad guy meets justice sort of.
Good book but couldn't really get into it. It didn't hold my attention well. The story was good, but something was off. Wish I could say what, but it just didn't click.
