Chains is the second book in the Separate Ways series. And this book is just as addictive as the first one. I was completely swept up into Sam's, Jared's and Cash' story.
The book takes place roughly five years later. Sam gave birth to a brilliant boy which she named Cash Jules McCoy. He has one or two of her features. But he is a complete mini me of Jared.
And Sam does her best to move on. She has a relationship with Zak. Zak is extremely jealous and she struggles a lot with that.
That night Danny comes by and tells her Jared is back in town. She sends Danny away as quickly and fiercely as she can. And she doesn't want to see Jared yet. When he walks into her bar, she takes Cash and leaves quickly. But Jared follows her and is super angry she kept his son away from him for 5 years.
A few nights later she works the night shift and gets a call from a friend. Zak saw Danny arrive and he was convinced she was having an affair with him. Her friend tells her Zak has a party in her trailer. And when she arrives he has strippers over. Jared has followed her. I just loved that scene so freaking much. She kicks them out, dumps Zak and takes over control of her life.
The scene that follows. The chase she and Jared had. I just freaking loved that. I felt her joy and the thrill in my bones. And it felt like I was driving that car.
When Sam and Jared talk after. They find out that Danny kept them apart for all those years. And that is what truly kickstarts the story. How do they deal with that? What will the consequences be? And what does that change between the two of them?
I love Jared so fiercely. You can feel his love for his son so strongly. The lust in his eyes for Sam even made me ache.
And Sam's fighting spirit, just like in the first book, is something to be admired. You can see how life touched her, but she doesn't let that hold her down. She stands tall, fierce and has one of the strongest love for a child I ever read about. Everything is about Cash. And I admire that.
This series is just so damn perfect. Absolutely love it from the first word in the first book. And I'll jump straight away in book 3!
