Preview:

How: I did this by looking at the graphics, the chapter headings, and cover.

By previewing the cover, I think it has something to do with being outside. There is a moon and a person floating in the sky. Also by looking at the novel cover, I preview and see it’s going to be erie. Also, the top of the cover states “Is he a Lover or a Killer” I preview and think a main character is going to pose an interesting challenge to other characters in the novel.

By looking at the inside graphic such as inside cover and numbers used for chapter headings, it is going to be a scary book. The author uses claw marks and blood coming from the claw marks. The claw marks also appear on the chapter headings for each chapter.

Prior Knowledge :

How: I read the first book in the series; I have also done a research paper on werewolves.

I would need to know that Lucien is out of this book because got bit in the back. If I didn’t know the character of Lucien existed, when they talked about the past in the book, I would be confused. He was a father figure to the main character; he was talked about alot but there was never any action centering around him.

The main character is a werewolf. It is important to understand what a werewolf is. Knowing of the the historical tales of a werewolf helped me better understand his role in the story. Without having prior knowledge about a werewolf, it would be hard to understand some of his actions.

Visualize:

How: I just saw the events unfolding in my head. I could also relate to it due to past history.

I can visualize the fight scene between witch and Trey’s friend. I can see them inside the room going at one another. They crept in and got the ball, but they were caught by the witches. I can visualize this as there have been times when I think I got away with something, but in the end, I get caught. I can envision Trey going back for his friend, but in the end, I picture a disappointed Trey when his friend dies. (305)

Predict:

How: When something exciting would happen, I would stop and think about what was going to come next. Also, when suspense or tension was used, I would wonder what was going to come next.

Trey needed to get the magical ball. In order to do this, he had to go into another realm. The realm he had to enter was known as the evil realm. Inside the realm he saw the evil witch. I predicted that there would be a fight over the magic ball. (243)

Inferences:

How: I used the fact of the story to find out more about certain characters.

During the same fight scene, I can infer that the witch is a highly trained fighter. The witch does crazy moves during the fight scene. I also know that she was a good witch at one point that fought for good, but she turned bad when she tried to sacrifice her daughter. The witch also prevails in this fight. Good usually wins, but in this case, because the witch was a good fighter, evil won.

This is the second book in the Changeling Wereling series by Steve Feasey, since I read and enjoyed the first book, I couldn't wait to get started!

This book fits the bingo box "A Fantasy book."

Trey had, in the last couple of months, learnt not only that he was a werewolf but that he was being hunted by the evil vampire Caliban who wanted him dead!

Trey remains my favourite character in this book as he now accepts that he is a werewolf and his powers get stronger and he works on his relationships. He goes on a journey and faces so many challenges but his determination and strength sees him through. He also starts a great friendship with Charles.
What I learnt from this book was that sometimes you will get challenged both physically and mentally in any given situation and you have to learn to work together with people and keep your emotions in check in order to finish a task.

My favourite quote from the book was, "Remember what we're here for Trey. We need to get going."... Many times we get distracted and not finish or pay attention to what we are supposed to do and a gentle reminder or nudge always helps.

Overall this was an action packed book with lots of mystery and suspense and I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

The beginning was slow and the rest of the book was as well. It just lacked the appeal that it had on the first book. The only part that was of slight interest was the part with Alexa and her friend. The rest just could not interest me on the slightest. Ended up skimming most of the book because of how uninteresting it was

Met reekse het jy twee keuses: of die hoofkarakter ontwikkel verder (met 'n konstante opwaartse kurwe), of die verhaal begin opnuut met 'n nuwe intrige maar presies dieselfde karakter met presies dieselfde gewoontes (just another day at the office, amper soos by speurromans).

Hy ontdek hy is 'n weerwolf. Daarmee moet hy vrede maak. Dit soos jou eerste werksdag by 'n firma: alles is vreemd, alles is nuut, alles is opwindend, maar daar heers 'n optimistiese gees.

'n Soort opbouende stokperdjie of gewoonte. Of dalk nie.

I'm giving this three stars because I enjoyed it, but I admit that, by "objective merits," it really should be two.

Let's start with the positives. We've got our status quo established, so the awkward setup of the first book is done. There's some creative stuff with the monsters and magic, and the whole idea of a secret demon-fighting company. Tom is fun, even though Trey and Alexa remain a little generic. The main plot, sneaking into Caliban's fortress to get a magical item, was good, even if it takes too long to really get started. And I liked Moriel. I'm usually leery about using as fantasy elements, but she was cool in a way that still fit the legends and the tone of this series. I look forward to seeing her more.

Now onto the neutral-to-bad stuff. As I organize it in my mind, I notice a pattern: "Cool idea, but does it matter?"

So, as we set up in the last book, the heroes need to fight Alexa's evil mother, Gwendolin. It quickly becomes clear, both from the backstory and her first appearance, that Gwen is 100% evil and has no lingering affection for her ex-husband and daughter. (At this point, I'll be surprised if any villains are more complex than "does evil stuff because they're evil.") Alexa seems to know this; in fact, it's a running thing that the other characters think she'll be more torn up about the situation but she really isn't. I can appreciate either of these points, but taken together, does it matter that the villain is Alexa's mom? They don't even interact, . So the "evil mom" gimmick feels kind of pointless.

We introduce a new character named Charles. He's kind of stuffy and used to date Alexa, so Trey doesn't like him much. They butt heads, but then Charles just comes forward, says that the two of them shouldn't be petty rivals, and after that they're friends. Again, I kind of appreciate the maturity, but what was the point of them not liking each other to start with? It would have felt more satisfying if, say, they became friends during their time in Leroth, bonding as they worked together and saved each other's lives.

But if we're talking about pointless subplots, the BIGGEST offender is the whole Tipsbury storyline. One of Lucien's employees, Martin, knows a thing that they don't want the secret mole in the company to find out; as such, they send him and his daughter, Philippa, on a vacation. The mole, who is actually a body-hopping demon, possesses Philippa and comes along on the trip. First of all, I feel like the information that they're trying to hide isn't that big of a deal; if the demon got it, all that it would know is "the good guys know what kind of magic Gwen is doing," not even that they know why or what they plan to do about it. Yet this whole subplot takes up a LOT of page-time, and turns out to be a shaggy dog story, since the demon doesn't even get the information anyway.

Character-wise, I also feel like it doesn't work. We're clearly supposed to be impressed when Martin , but all I can think of is how he should have knocked Philippa out and tied her up when he first realized that she was homicidal. And then , making the whole thing even more pointless. My three-star generosity barely survived that.

There's also the fact that the villains' aforementioned plan, which the whole Tipsbury subplot focuses on, collapses on its own without the heroes doing anything. So again: ? Cool idea. But pretty much pointless. Though that doesn't matter too much, since getting the magic item was still the main focus.

The last few pages sets up the next book, and I'm not going to spoiler-tag this, because it just comes out of nowhere anyway. It turns out that Trey has a werewolf uncle. He's weirdly upset that Lucien never mentioned this, so we get a conversation that's basically like:

Trey: Why didn't you tell me that I had an uncle?!
Lucien: I assure you that I had my reasons, they're simply too foreboding to be explicit about.
Trey: Well, I'm going to go meet him in the next book!
Lucien: Alright, but don't do it until I can tell you about him.
Trey: I'm asking you to tell me about him now.
Lucien: ✔ Read at 6:07 PM.

I'm saying this drama feels very forced. That said, I am cautiously optimistic. A recurring thing is that werewolf!Trey wants to go crazy and give into his wolf instincts, but he keeps himself from doing so. The ad for the next book makes it sound like that's gonna be the theme when Trey meets his werewolf uncle. So, y'know, a good werewolf story. That's what I'm here for.

(Edit after reading the third book: Well, never mind. The fourth book is good, though.)

I know that this review was largely negative, but I did enjoy this entry more than the first. Most of the mechanical problems (dialogue, attempts at pretentiousness, etc.) are improved though still extant, and the plot was fun enough as a popcorn read. Hopefully the remaining books will keep working out the kinks.

P.S.: The moon, dark or otherwise, has little to nothing to do with this book. They just needed a title that feels "werewolfish."

Okay so if you haven't read the first one, this one is bound to have a spoiler or two...just be warned.

Trey Laporte has spent most of his life hoping to have the one thing that many of us take for granted....a family. Now that he has one, no matter how unorthodox it may be, he plans on keeping it. Unfortunately, there are outside forces that have other ideas...much darker and fouler than the blackest night. Lucien Charron, his new mentor and guardian of sorts, is in grave danger. He may not be a member of the living breathing human race, but his undead status is rapidly changing to just plain dead thanks to the evil mastermind Caliban, his brother....that is unless Trey can stop him. A big task for one person, even one werewolf type person...good thing he has a few friends on his side. Will it be enough to stop the coming darkness or has the light of day finally met its match?

With depth, intrigue, and characters you love to hate and those you love to love (okay, you know what I mean...)....it's the formula for a successful page turner every time and one that author Steve Feasey seems to have a great grasp on. I love how the story was built in such a way that you WANT to follow it around each twist and turn, over each obstacle and through each triumph. The author's ability to lead you in one direction totally anticipating the next move only to have the story shift ever so slightly so that the possibilities you saw never come to pass and yet you are not disappointed by the change...fantastic.

We see Lucien disabled to the brink of death, yet still a source of strength for those that surround him. Trey has now accepted his heritage and utilizes his strengths (along with a few newly acquired ones) to help achieve the groups goal. Alexa faces a past better forgotten and a potential reunion that could change everything for better or worse. Tom...well, he's Tom and he is nothing is not cavalier in his attempts to keep everyone safe while toting along his weapon of choice of the moment. All your favorites are back and then some....but the then some consists of some unlikely heroes as well as new foes that are bit too much to describe right here. ~shudders~

Overall, a fantastic read from start to finish. The chapters are short and sweet catering to any avid readers need to finish "just one more" before calling it a night. You'll laugh (definitely). You'll cry (maybe...a little at least). You'll gasp in awe and fear of just what's been unleashed or where things are going next (for certain). If you haven't read the first book, I'd highly recommend it so you have the background regarding all the events taking place and the future taking shape. Recommended for fans of the YA genre with a paranormal persuasion....but with story enough to carry the demons, creatures, and magic along. Happy reading!

Dark moon is the second book in the wereling series, this book is action packed with suspense and excitement. Each page you turn makes it even more suspenseful wondering what’s going to happen next.
In the first book Trey found out he was a werewolf, Caliban, one of the most powerful vampires in the world is trying to kill trey but Lucian got him before he could get hurt. Lucian mentored Trey and gave him a place to stay but he wasn’t safe yet. Caliban couldn’t get to Trey so he kidnapped Lucian and left him to fight to his death.
Gwendolin, a very evil and powerful sorceress, has a key that could save Lucian. So Trey and Alexa (daughter of Lucian) have to travel to the netherworlds to defeat Gwendolin and get the key. Trey and Alexa get trapped and have to fight to save themselves.
The end of the book leaves a cliffhanger and that’s when book 2: Dark moon start up .
In the second book Trey has learned to control the inner werewolf more, his powers have become stronger as they travel to get the glove from Gwendolin.
Lucien is on the brink of death and the only thing that could help him is to retrieve the glove and destroy Gwendolyn. Trey, Alexa, Charles and tom must go and endanger their lives to heal Lucian.
Trey Doesn’t like Charles at all, Charles is Alex’s ex and Trey becomes a tad jealous, he doesn’t like Charles cocky attitude either. When they go on a mission to retrieve the globe they have to work together, it was a test of strength and determination for both of them, as they are working together they earn more respect for each other. Both Charles and Trey have their strengths and weaknesses but when they worked together it was just enough to get done what had to be done, they both sacrificed a lot and in the end it was well worth it.
The second book also left us with a cliffhanger, we know that Trey just found out he has an uncle that is also a werewolf and it ends just before he leaves to go find him.
Steve feasey’s next book in the wereling series is called blood wolf.

Dark Moon is the second book of the Wereling Series. The First book left a cliffhanger for the audience, and this book was the continuation of it. Due to the suspenseful end of the first novel, there was no doubt I would read the next one. Trey, a half werewolf and half human was taken in as his own by Lucien, who was a good friend of Trey's parents after they were brutally murdered. Alexa, Lucien's daughter who is half vampire and half sorceress, is an intelligent person that draws in Trey because of her personality and beautiful appearance. Caliban (a vampire), the antagonist of the book and also Lucien's brother, has the wicked idea of taking over the human race. He takes his own brother hostage and drags him down to the Netherworld, forcing Alexa and Trey to make a decision and go after him. Trey and Alexa face many dangers, including demons and changelings. Alexa even encounters her own mother in hell, Gwendolin who is a wicked sorceress that sides with Caliban and is the only one who holds the key to save her ex husband. Throughout the process, Trey learns and develops new abilities that he will use to save his mentor. Steve Feasey does an amazing job on describing fight scenes amongst mythical creatures, it’s as if the event is happening right in front of you. I recommend this series and novel to be people who like Science Fiction and Fantasy, which would include werewolves, demons, vampires, etc.

Dark Moon is book two in the Wereling series.
Here is a blurb on the series, from Goodreads:
A few short months ago, Trey Laporte learned the news that would change him forever: He is a werewolf, and the evil vampire Caliban wants him dead. The threat becomes real when Caliban attacks Trey’s mentor, Lucien Charron, and leaves him fighting for his life.

Gwendolin, a wicked sorceress, holds the only key to saving Lucien. Together, Trey and Lucien’s beautiful daughter, Alexa, must enter the Netherworld to defeat her. The pressure for Trey is great—Alexa is counting on him to save her father.

But when Trey and Alexa find themselves trapped and surrounded by demons, can Trey use his werewolf strength to save them both?

Follow Trey Laporte on another heart-pounding adventure in the second installment of STEVE FEASEY’s terrifically frightening Wereling series.

Dark Moon picks up where the previous book left off. As Trey's werewolf powers get strong and more prominent he is faced with trying so solve an a problem and retrieve items intermixed with a lot of bloody gore. His relationships are developing while also going stale and there are a lot of people/things out to get him.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and the description of place in the book, and there was not a lack of action. There is a lot of mystery and suspense in the book and it was an engaging read.

In Changeling: Dark Moon (book two in the series), Trey, Alexa, Tom and Charles are on a mission to try and save Lucien, Alexa’s father, who was bitten by his brother, Caliban. Lucien is now dying because of it and the only thing that can save him is Mynor’s Globe, which is in the possession of Gwendolin, Alexa’s mother, an evil mage who is working with Caliban. There’s still a spy on the loose in Lucien’s offices, so the group has to be careful as they try and track down the location of the Tower of Leroth, a moving portal between the human world and the Netherworld that Gwendolin and Caliban use as their base. In addition, it appears that they’re trying to raise the undead to do their bidding in their attempt to take over the human world.

Changeling, even more so than Wereling, doesn’t read like a young YA book (the main character, Trey, is 14 in the first one and just turns 15 in the second). For one thing, Feasey has no problem killing characters and not in a Harry Potter point your wand and say one word and your dead way. I liked this book better than the first; we get to know the characters a little more and there are a couple of parallel story lines that alternate being told. There’s also a little twist at the end, which takes the next book in a completely different and interesting direction.

After reading the first book in the series i was intrigued by and wondered what would happen next, so naturally the second book in this series was my next choice of reading. Again Steve Feasey does an incredible job at drawing in his audience, he incorporated almost all the same techniques he used in the first book which made this book just as good and if not, better than the last. Feasy does an extremely swell job at creating suspense for his audience. He ties in random small parts of the book that you would never expect to be important to the climax of the book, leaving the audience in awe. Another suspenseful moment was at the end when the author leaves yet another cliff hanger, leaving the reader with wonder and imagination. Another strength in this book was Steve's syntax. The authors word play and ability to use a variety of words was fluent and this gave the audience the ability to visualize what was going on in the book picture by picture. If you are looking for an extremely suspenseful, mysterious, and action filled book then i would highly recommend this one for you.

What a great series this is...I am in love with the characters - though, this book was not nearly as funny as the first - I enjoyed it nearly as much - there's still the same old fear that rised with in me while reading it - and the introduction to Charles was awesome, I loved how in the beginning he and Trey were not friends but as time went on, they became that way.

Steve Feasey is a fav. of mine, I love his work - and now I am off to pick up Blood Wolf - as the ending of this one left me dangling!

This book was my favorite vampire/werewolf books i have ever read. The vampires are all beautiful sorceresses and sorcerers. This is a twist that i didnt really expect and this made the book more fun to read. The fact that Trey had to face his challenges and go fight Caliban was a really nice plot to base the book on since it continued right away after book one. Even though this is the second book in the series, i am still looking forward to reading the next book.

If a book has great characters, I’m in. This book fits the part. The characters throughout the story are varied and unique. Though the story did have some flaws. There were parts of it that didn’t make any sense from being continued from the first book. But all in all this book was great and I cannot wait to read the next Wereling book.

The second Wereling novel in this series. Trey and his friends must find a way into Caliban's fortress to steal a magical talisman that will save Lucien's life. But will everyone make it out alive? Will Alexa be able to cope with what her mother has become? As exciting as the first novel, the ending will surprise and whet the appetite for the next book in the series. Boys will really enjoy this series!

I absolutely adore this series!
Changeling: Dark Moon is fun, imaginative and fascinating!
Some of it reminds me of HP with a twist of Percy Jackson.
The plot is thick, the characters are a blast and the writing is brilliant!

Trilling, captivating, compelling! Love it!
Can't wait to get book 3!

Pretty decent sequel to WEREling. I think that in a lot of ways it improved upon the original by expanding on its mythology, adding more creatures, etc. WEREling was more or less a straight forward, occasionally bland werewolf story; Dark Moon is something more - and I like it.
