Fast paced, Paranormal, Vampires, and witches? I love it.

Jessica, 17 old, happy in life with boyfriend Luke and best friend Alex. Happy life turns to tragedy when she was looted in dark alley and left to die. Daniel, handsome dashing vampire gives her a new life, turns her into vampire. But, she is no normal vampire. There’s more to it. She is struggling in her new life. It’s difficult for her to let go of human soul and her love for Luke. What happens next? Will she able to move on in new life and accept her vampire nature and her master Daniel? Will she able to forget Luke?

I love paranormal books. I always find it fascinating. This book is combination of vampires and witches which makes this book different from other normal vampire romance. Story is thrilling with suspense and little romantic touch to it. It is “half love triangle”. Half because Luke is in the past (human) life of Jess and have very little role after she turn to vampire.

I liked all characters except Luke. At some point, I started to feel something was off about him. I liked Daniel for his calm nature and his ability to handle situation patiently. Eva, though bossy, was instantly likable. Jess was constantly whiny in book but it was bearable. I started liking her when she was finally giving a chance to Daniel and coping with vampire inside her. I sped up reading at that point as I wanted to know what happens to their relationship. I loved blossoming relationship of Jess and Daniel. Also, the suspense in the book about her witch power was intriguing.

Best part of the book, the little adventure in the last few chapters. That was fun reading and I was impressed by change in Jess. I am definitely going to read the rest of the series.

Overall, it’s interesting and trilling.

Let me start by saying though I did not give the book a five star rating I did LOVE it! The story was well developed, easy to follow and bewitching ;) I couldn't put it down until I finished it. The characters are believable and likable, whether you like to love them or like to hate them, the emotion is there. The descriptions of each scene was great in that it didn't drag on to the point where I had to skim just to get to the dialogue so that was a definite plus! I loved the relationship developing between Jess, 17 yr old newly turned vampire/half witch, and her maker Daniel. Being the hopeless romantic that I am, I desperately wanted it to speed up, but understood why Jess couldn't allow herself to fall in love so quickly. My only problem, however, was that Jess could be so naive or sheltered and yet be so unwilling to trust those closest to her (Daniel and Eva). I get her being stubborn, behaving like a 17 year old and not wanting to submit to a "master". I could even understand her not trusting Luke after feeling so deceived, but sharing a telepathic bond with Daniel, being able to feel what he feels and the lengths he goes to protect her, I don't understand why even 'til the end of the book she's still hesitant to fully trust him. This aside, the story was so spellbinding as soon as I finished I went to the author's blog, became a fan, following her updates, and bought the second book.

please, no

This one started off as a solid four, lost half a star because it became boring, until the gut-wrenching annoying plot twist, that wasn't one just made me want to throw my kindle across the room, because it opened my eyes to the poor story line.
The writing isn't that bad, and I guess, if you like a new idea on an old genre with a love triangle that isn't really one due to one character not really being present: then this might be one.

but: retrospectively, and that's only one of the huge milestones of the story that are poor character outlining, just like or that her huge crush then boyfriend, without any drifts to the past to actually explain why she fell in love with him . Sorry, but I am really forgiving on many stories but this ...no, just no. Please spend your money on something else.

This book surprised me in a very good way. Emma weaved a tale that I've never read before. Her unique, refreshing twist for this vampire novel left me dying for the next book. I think this book contained one of the best vampire transformations I've ever read! I can't wait to sink my teeth into book 2!

This book is a breath of fresh air in the paranormal genre. I love the twist of adding a half witch half vampire into the vampire world. The story line is fresh and engaging and I loved the British dialect used throughout the story. I was thrilled to have also received the second installment of the series to review because I was keen to continue reading about Jessica and all her dangerous adventures.

The prologue opens in Manchester, England with Jessica (17) hiding in the shadows of the park watching a boy sitting on a bench outside her neighborhood cricket club. He has tears streaming down his face. Jessica is grieving as she watches her ex boyfriend (Luke) mourn her death. Part of her is aching to touch him and comfort him. But she stays in the shadows because the other part of her wants to hold his head, breathe in his smell and bite him so that his warm blood will rush into her mouth.

As chapter one opens up Jess is at a local university bar with her best friend Alex. As she is checking out the people in the bar she locks eyes and has a connection with a stranger. Even though she feels a pull towards him she thinks of her boyfriend Luke and walks the other way. Within a few minutes the stranger seeks her out and introduces himself as Daniel. Though he is gorgeous and she is definitely attracted, Jess again thinks of Luke and walks away. She starts searching the bar for Alex but can't find her anywhere. She decides to leave the bar and head home. While walking home on her own Jessica is attacked and left for dead by a vicious gang of girls. As Jessica lay dying she is saved by Daniel, who it turns out is a vampire. He "turns" her while she is breathing her last breath but from the very beginning Jessica doesn't respond like a "normal" new vampire. She sleeps to much. She has no compulsion to "bite" anyone, preferring the bagged blood. She is still craving food and she is still very pulled to her human life, family and friends.

As more and more differences start to be revealed, Jessica becomes a prize coveted by the supernatural world. The vampires want her for her powers and the witches want to control her. Her human family also has secrets that must be discovered as she tries to piece together her past, present and future. Even her ex boyfriend, Luke, is revealed to be a fallen angel sent to watch her for signs of her witches power. Luke's hidden agenda and betrayal cut Jess deep. Daniel becomes her rock during this turbulent time. But Jess must also determine if his motives are driven by love or something more sinister. As she lets go of Luke she must determine if her feelings for Daniel are real or part of the blood bond they share.

Emma Mills did a great job with this book. It was a page turner filled with twists and turns that i didn't see coming. I do want to mention that some of the sexual feelings that Jess struggles with are probably more geared to 15/16 years old and up. Nothing to explicit but Jess' sexuality is definitely tied in to her feelings for Luke and Daniel.

In Witchblood, Emma Mills introduces a world where vampires, witches, and angels walk among us. As we follow Jess's journey through the realization that she has not only been transformed into a vampire, but that she is also something more, we can't help but be swept up in the world that Mills creates. The characters feel real, the world feels authentic, and the story literally throbs with an underlying intensity that builds with each page. In short, Witchblood is an imaginative, satisfying read that still manages to leave the reader hungry for more.

I started off not expecting to like this book as I haven't had much luck with the free books from Amazon. I ended up staying up way too late reading and then coming home from work to finish the book off the second day.

The background of the characters came to life through their dialogue and the story flowed seamlessly. The book did have the love triangle deal going on but I like that it dealt more with her internal struggles versus her love interests. I also like that it didn't turn into unrealistic soft porn like a lot of novels do.

I look forward to reading the sequels.

Well let me just jump right in there and say the first half of this book really dragged on for me. I had a hard time getting into the story. Jessica the main character was supper winey and came a crossed as a huge annoying baby. But I must admit the author really did capture how someone may actually take becoming a vampire so I read on. As the book went on it did become some what interesting, and end with a lot of unanswered questions. So for that reason I would want to read Witchcraft, the second book in the series. Overall this book was ok not one of my favorites.

I absolutely LOVED this book! Emma Mills did an amazing jobs with characters and plot!
Jessica is such a strong woman and doesn't let herself get pushed around by all the vamps! She handles everything that's happening to her like a champ and starts to be KickAss!
The story was refreshing and not like a lot of other vampire books which was an immediate LOVE for me! If you love vampire books with a great twist then this is definitely the book for you!

A book set in Manchester (that's in the UK in case you didn't know). We should have more books set in the UK, I've found most YA books are either set somewhere in America or Ireland. I love discovering books that are set in the UK, so obviously when I saw this book I just had to read it.
This isn't just another vampire story. There's some of the old world vamp stuff for it to feel familiar with just enough of a modern edge for it not to feel overused. Let's not forget there's a whole bunch of witchiness thrown in there for good measure.
Although I liked Jess, I felt like I just new too much about her. She seemed to spend a lot of time in her own head just pondering over guys. I would have liked to see more action from her.
I didn't feel like I clocked so much with Daniel, yeah he was nice enough but I don't know there was just something about him and I couldn't make myself trust him fully. Maybe I'm just a suspicious person who knows, I just feel like he's keeping too many secrets.
Now Eva I absolutely loved. She's one of them girls you love to hate and then somewhere along the way... BAM! You're best friends. She definitely added the extra oomph to this book and it definitely wouldn't be as great without her.
Although the beginning started off rather slow, I'm so glad I kept with it because pretty soon I was so engrossed in the book I was finished in no time at all. There where some twists in this story but I did see a few of them coming, although the biggy at the end totally threw me... I'm so glad I received this book and the second in the series from the author because there is no way I can stop reading these now.

This was an okay read. it started off well, dulled in the middle then picked up again. I like the idea of her being turned and having witch blood making her unique. I liked the reason why she was turned and I like the angel.

THE RUNDOWN
Though there seems to be a glut of paranormal romance novels flooding the virtual shelves these days, Witchblood, by Emma Mills, has struck a chord with readers as an adept blend of something borrowed and something new. Although not a totally original premise, this novel about super hot vampires walking among humans adds interesting twists to the standard, making Witchblood a hot commodity with current audiences.

This book (the first in the successful paranormal romance series aptly titled Witchblood) opens with a prologue that absolutely works. Jess, our main character, has been changed into a supernatural being and stands watching her human boyfriend mourn her loss. The raw emotion is palpable. We sympathize with her plight. Mills moves quickly from there to a London bar scene where Jess and her best friends are doing their best to enjoy the nightlife. Jess meets the handsome and mysterious Daniel who offers to buy her a drink. Though Daniel is a ten, she refuses, staying faithful to her boyfriend, another likable trait that draws us further in. The plot thickens when Jess leaves the club and a group of malicious teenagers attack her and fatally stab her. Before she breathes her last, Daniel swoops to the rescue. Here’s the catch: she must drink his blood to live, but his blood will change her. Thus begins her new life. She’s now a vampire, but soon realizes she’s not your run of the mill vampire. Witchblood surges in her veins. Only now she must learn to control her powers, deal with her new brethren, and reconcile her past.

Many claim paranormal romance is dead. As a reader of many paranormal romance stories, sometimes I feel authors are beating a dead Twilight horse with their many variations of this template. This book did not have enough new ideas in it for me to make it a Top Pick. The hot, brooding vampire love is tired. The twist regarding Jess’s witch ancestry is unique, but I don’t think Mills did enough to separate herself from the pack. However, the book is selling very well on Amazon, as is the sequel, so who am I to argue with success? Audiences are reading and liking this book. That definitely counts for something. Mills has done a great job with the cover, the blurb and the marketing as well, which likely helps garner such a wide audience.

THE RECOMMENDATION
Paranormal Romance fans, buy the book. Thought it may be a tad derivative, it is definitely worth 99 cents of entertainment. 4 out of 5 stars.

=Jessica is violently attacked by a girl gang, and is then left for dead. But somehow she is saved. Turns out she's become a vampire, under the care of Daniel and Eva. She has to learn how to deal with her new found status, her place in Vampire society, and of course the new diet. But as well as the powers that come with being a vampire, she has others. She's also a witch, somehow, with no way of formally learning to control these powers. And there may be more to this than she thinks...
This is a book set in England! Yay! Sorry, I just like books set in England, because I can relate a bit more, and understand a few more cultural references and so on. The concept was interesting, and could have gone either terribly, or well. Luckily, this one went the latter way.
From the start, I was hooked. I was promised it would be a quick read owing to the fact it's quite short. But it's not just that. Jessica's narration and the amount of stuff that actually happens mean you can easily speed through it, and still get a good idea of everything that's happening.
The characterisation was good. The older vampires seem to have adjusted well to modern life, and Jessica is adjusting to existance as a vampire as well as you'd expect.
The romance between Jessica and Daniel was inevitable, but quite nice to watch develop. And then there was the introduction of a kind of love triangle, which was also inevitable but I personally could have done without. Nothing against this book in particular, it's just I can do without love triangles in everything.
The final revelation about Luke was quite unexpected, and it made me wish we'd seen a little more of him throughout the bulk of the book to properly get to know him.
I think that Eva was my favourite character. The way she handled things, and the fact that she survived the French Revolution just made me like her.
Of the supernaturals in this, I have to say that I like the vampires best. That is only because the other two races don't get enough coverage. But I'm sure that I'll love the witches once we get to know them.
Overall: Strength 4 tea to a quick read which is setting the stage for some really amazing things to come. Can't wait for the sequel, Witchcraft.

I received Witchblood from the author Emma Mills for being the 50th person to “like” her Facebook page. Thank you Emma Mills. Witchblood is about a young girl Jess who is turned into a vampire one night when she goes to a bar with her friends. While at this bar she meets a very handsome man named Daniel. She thinks that she is being unfaithful to her boyfriend Luke who she thinks is out of town at a bachelor party. So she leaves Daniel sitting at the table and walks out. All of her friends have ran off and left her they were only trying to be polite to let her have alone time with Daniel. She goes hunting Alex in a dark alley which is never a good thing to do by yourself. Jess is attacked by a gang of girls and left for dead. Daniel and his friend Eva find her and Daniel changes her into a vampire to save her.

The way that this vampire clan works is that you do whatever you are told to do by the one who turns you. Normally new vampires have no choice it just happens. Well not Jess she is very independent and has a mind of her own. Which happens to get her in trouble on more than one occasion. Daniel and Eva are very understanding with Jess after all she is only half-vampire.

Jess is turned off by the fact that feeding for her now means biting a human and drinking their blood. She can handle drinking blood from a cup or from Daniel. When she only drinks blood from a cup she doesn’t get the nutrients that her body needs as a vampire. Although biting a human disgusts Jess her body still reacts to the smell of human blood. Daniel and Eva don’t trust her to be alone with humans yet. But Jess being only half-vampire and still having some of her human constraints controls her desire for human blood when she is allowed to go out with them.

When I started reading Witchblood I could not stop turning the pages it was that good. I kelp thinking I need to go to sleep. I think I finally put it down about 3 in the morning only because as humans it is hard to survive with out sleep. I could go on and on talking about Witchblood but then I would ruin it for anyone who has not read it and I definitely don’t want to do that. My suggestion is read Witchblood today. I'm eagerly anticipating the arrival of Witchcraft.

Jess's life is changed forever after a tragic ending to what was supposed to be a fun night clubbing with her best friend. One small mistake has cost her everything - her family, her friends, her boyfriend and even her life. Pulled into the world of vampires Jess is forced to come to terms with a very different reality and must face her growing attraction to Daniel despite the fact that she feels as if she is betraying the love of her life Luke.

I read so many stories that are set in the US that it's always nice to come across a book that is set in the UK. What was even nicer about Witchblood was that it is set in Manchester rather than in London like a lot of the British stories I read. I've only ever been to Manchester once so for me it was nice to explore somewhere closer to home but that I still don't know very well.

I really felt for Jess after everything she goes through and it was easy to relate to her struggle to accept what has happened and what she has become. It isn't easy to have your world turned upside down and I could totally accept her need for revenge against those who put her in that situation in the first place. In fact I was impressed with her restraint because I don't think I would have let them off so lightly if I was in her situation! I did find myself a little frustrated by the way she clung to the memory of Luke but I think that was because we'd only ever seen her memories of him so I didn't know him well enough to feel the connection between them. She was so drawn to Daniel that their connection seemed more plausible. Daniel was an interesting character but I want to know more about his past and am looking forward to getting to know him better.

I liked the world building but feel I am missing pieces of the puzzle at the moment, I'm sure this is intentional though because no author wants to give away all of the secrets in the first book of a new series. The revelations made towards the end of the book definitely have me keen to find out what happens next and it will be interesting to see the what direction the story takes. Witchblood is a promising start to a new series and a solid debut from Emma Mills, definitely an author I'll be keeping an eye on in the future.

Review to follow once I've read all 3 books

*update 6 April 2013*

The main draw of me reading this book was the fact that the author is not only a Brit like me, but she also has set her books in the UK. My other half is from Manchester, but I don't admit to knowing the city very much.

The main character of Jess is pretty much someone I'd want to be friends with. She sassy with a touch or sarcastic. Just my kinda gal, but I wanted to shake her when she left the club alone. You just DON'T do that!! I mean, look where it got her.

Once ... events have taken place and the reader has been introduced to Daniel and Eve, we start to see more of Jess's character. She refuses to act the way is expected of her, and I admire that. After all, it would be so easy for her to just cave to the peer pressure that's being placed upon her.

I enjoyed the twists Mills put on her version of vampire lore, such as the bonds between maker and new vamp, but I have to admit, I wasn't a fan of Daniel. As I read the first book, I couldn't help but think he was yet another 'x' years old vamp who thought he knew better than the female lead and was a bit controlling, but after a while, I found it easy to understand why he was like that.

Unlike 'other' vampire books, there was a real threat to Jess. The vampire clans were ever present, and rules had to be adhered to, which is why we're introduced to Sebastian (I REALLY wasn't keen on him).

I admit, after finishing this book, I was "Team Luke". Even acting the way he did, but considering his background, totally understandable.

I did feel sorry for Jess. If being a newly turned vamp wasn't enough, she now has witch powers that she's struggling to control, and at the end of the book I really wanted more.

The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 was in some places, the pace of the story dropped a little. First books in a series are tricky as they have to contain a lot of information, background and build up to the grand finale. Mills did all of this really well, but sometimes it was a little information overload. it didn't put me off diving straight into book 2 though.

When I saw the cover, the first thing I thought was that I was going to read a really creepy story, but I was wrong. The cover just perfectly reflects a particular moment and a clear image you find in the story, an original one with some really believable characters.

Jess is a teenager but she’s very mature because of some tragic events happened (and keep happening) in her life . . . You can clearly see that and one of the most appreciated things is that she faces her new reality in the way you would expect someone to react. Not “Oh, vampires! Cool!” but “Are you freaking serious?”. Of course, the teenager in her emerges every time she thinks about her boyfriend, but let’s be honest, how many seventeen-years-old you know who would act rationalising love? Sure, because there are so many adults who do that instead, huh? My issue was more regards Luke. Since we can’t know him well, I couldn’t understand Jess’ strong feelings for him, or better I couldn’t feel her love, so I could’t see her pain for the separation. On the contrary, I felt anything related to Daniel! In the blurb, you can read this phrase “Will she succumb to the attraction she desperately tries not to feel for Daniel?”. Now, I’m not gonna reveal anything, I wouldn’t dare, I just wanna make a simple understatement: you see Daniel, you get the crush and then you’re done! Yes, you should prepare yourself for some very lovely Daniel’s moments as much as the OMG-you’re-so-sexy ones!

Love, seduction, mystery, the unexpected . . . Everything that makes a book special. What really stopped me from giving it a higher rating was a strange rapidity in some dialogues that kinda bothered me. However, I loved this book, I think it’s a great first instalment and you should read it and give Emma Mills the chance to prove you she has an awesome potential ready to explode in something magical!

I received a free copy of this book from the Author for an honest review. This does not affect in any way my opinion of the book nor the content of my revieworiginally posted on Darkest Sins.

If you are looking for a different young-girl-turned-vampire story, I think this is it. Daniel starts off as the mysterious stranger in the bar with burnt chocolate eyes. Jess sees him, and she’s attracted. But she has a boyfriend whom she loves, Luke. But Daniel sees her too. They have a brief conversation that really leads nowhere. Jess’s evening ends with her being mugged in the alley and left for dead… or vampires.

The rest of the story is her becoming a vampire, learning to be the new person that she is, and dealing with the changes that brings about. It was really rather interesting to watch her grow and change, and watch how the people around her reacted to her changes. Of course she has to let her old life go, but there are definitely instances when the past and the present collide.

I found the characters to vibrant and compelling. I really liked Jess. I think there are a lot of terrific things in store for her. At times she did get a bit whiney, but she is a teen whose life has been turned upside down. And above and beyond that, she discovers her old life might not have been all she thought it was either. I’m excited to see what is to come for her in the next book. Her emotions were very real and at the surface. At times they caught me a bit unprepared. I really like that feeling of being caught of guard.

I really liked Daniel, too. He seemed like a quiet and powerful presence, I really felt he was capable of much more than he let on. He seems to have an infinite well of patience, which can only come from time or love. And in his case, it seems to be both.

Eva is another character I found wildly interesting. She comes and goes in this story, you don’t really get too in depth with her. But she was definitely a breath of fresh air at times. She was able to pull off the scary vamp role, along with the seductress and mentor roles as well.

There are a lot of things that switch it up in Witchblood. I mean, it’s not called Witchblood for nothing, so you will have to read it to find out what that is all about. But if you are into YA PNR, I think you will definitely enjoy reading this book.

4 Fiery Hearts

This was a great read! The plot, and the elements that make up vampire existence in this book were quite unique. I was hooked from the first page, and the fact that it was set in my beloved UK is a bonus for me.

Emma sets a scene really well, making the reader feel like they're right there without any effort, and the characterisation was also really good. There was something happening in every chapter in this book, right from chapter one, and I wasn't bored at all while reading it. I mention this because I can often get quite bored when I read YA fiction (I don't read it that often because of this) - maybe it's the angst and the usual teen trauma. Although there was angst in this book, I didn't feel that it dragged on, and thought it was very realistic (in so far as a paranormal book can be) and true to the character.

You've got a little bit of everything in this vampire story: bloodlust, sexual urges, a vampire society, the dichotomy between holding onto your humanity and being drawn to your new vampiric life, witches, a tiny bit of magic, and ... other (I won't say what it is in case people consider it a spoiler).

So, why 4 stars instead of 5? Because 5 stars says to me that it simply can't get any better, and from reading the chapter one teaser of the next book, Witchcraft, that you get as a bonus in this one, I just know that the second book will be even better - that's quite a first chapter - drops you straight into the thick of it!

If anyone's looking for a new YA author to try, I definitely recommend Witchblood. It's an excellent start to what looks like will be a fantastic series, and I can't wait to read book two :)

So you know those books that take a few chapters to really get into the story? You get a lot of information that at the time just feels quite useless until it all comes together and makes total sense? Yea well this book? Totally not like that! Witchblood doesn’t give you information until you need it! In the first chapter our main character? OMG she DIES! Like seriously? When I read that I literally sat there staring at my iPad wordlessly for a few seconds… but then it clicked in what really happened because well it is a vampire book!

First off we meet Jess who is a normal collage girl who finally got the boyfriend of her dreams, I think the only problem I had with this is well it seems like she had only been dating Luke for a little while yet she switched her collage to go to the same one as him, and she was hopelessly in love with him. But I think she learned her lesson later on in the book!

Then there is Daniel… I loved him right off, he is super mysterious and has a lot of secrets and although he can seem to be evil sometimes I actually wonder if that is just a product of being a vampire… vampires always seem to have that edge to them you know?

I loved how this book was just a little bit different then most vampire books because it also involves witches and angels, but in a way that really connects them all together.. namely the fact that Jess is half witch.. although she didn’t know it! So essentially she is half witch and half vampire… therefore able to keep a lot of her human like qualities.. such as emotions, and well craving food and not blood!

Overall this was a great book, and I can’t wait to dive into the second book! I have so many unanswered questions and so many thoughts going on inside my head about what might happen!

I was blown away by this book it is excellent and shows vampires the way they should be, blood sucking, sexy and dark. The beginning disturbed me a little in the violence sense, it was a little true to life but I liked how it planned out. I love the main character Jess and how, since becoming a vampire she has mystified those who have been vampires for many years. Daniel is dark and mysterious, but playful too.

I love that this book is set close by, in Manchester of all places. I don't think I've ever read a book based there, it's always the main cities that used. I am a little familiar with Manchester so it was nice to read about the bits I know.

This book isn't your usual vampire genre, it's a little witchy and vampire thrown in to the mix. You can relate to Jess in the book and feel for her in her struggle to live as a vampire, fighting against her humanity. Jess is turned into a vampire to save her life, she didn't choose it but she needed it. Daniel did it to save her and he chose her for a reason. The clan works by the turned one has to do everything the turner tells them too, Jess isn't really into this and is Miss independent. Biting disgusts Jess and she will only drink blood from a cup strange for a newly turned vampire.

There are lots of twists and turns in this book, along with some romance and angst thrown into the mix. It will keep you hooked until the very end.

Despite this book being a debut novel, it is well written and will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more. I was very impressed and will definitely be reading more of Emma's work. I cannot wait for the sequel. I highly recommend this novel to anyone interested in Vampire novels with a bit of a twist.

My review of Witchblood by Emma Mills

RATING 5*****(WOULD GO WAY HIGHER IF I COULD )

Jessica is a typical college student. She has a great best friend named Alex who is also her roommate. The two are inseparable and enjoy life that way. She also has a way hot boyftiend named Luke who has been her childhood sweetheart and they are still going strong ...that is until one night changes everything. Jessica and Alex go to a local bar for a night of fun. Alex dips out early leaving Jessica to walk home on her own. On her way Jessica is brutally attacked and left for dead.
Daniel fell for Jessica from the time he seen her walk into the club. For some reason she could resist the vampire glamour he tried to use on her. When he found Jessica laying in the alley he just couldn't let her go like that. So he saved her.
Upon awakening to her new life, Jessica realizes nothing in her past life was as it seemed. Down to her father there were secrets kept that is set to change her destiny. Even Luke isn't the person she thought he was. While she is sorting out the people from her past Daniel seems to be the rock she can lean on. But she loves Luke right???

I have to say this book was beyond amazing. I was referred to it by another author and she was dead on. It culminates vampires who are yummy and sensitive with a dose of angels and witches ...a paranormal lovers dream. The author vividly portrays Jessica's struggle from human to vampire and all the growing pains associated with it. Overall an exceptionally well written novel!!!!

Angel, Vampires & Witches so far. Good story definitely reading the second book. As the synopsis stated, Jess is not all human but her other side does not come out until something tragic happens to her. The love of her life, Luke is not who she thinks he is and Jessica is falling for Daniel. I could not put the book down and I finished it in one sitting! At times I was frustrated at Jess for not doing the correct thing in situations threw out the entire story and had me shaking my head. It was obvious what she needed to do but because she declared herself a turn of the century independent carefree female she refused to do what was asked of her. I wanted to slap her, shake her or just yell her at times. The situation she got herself into made me question her maturity. To me Jessica was immature and stubborn for a student in collage she still had to grow and mature, she acted like a spoiled stubborn girl! But I greeted my teeth and overlooked her faults and I continued to reading the story because I also fell for Daniel! He was so patient and tender with her. I would have done dropped her like a hot potato and let Sebastian take care of her! I am still a little confused with Eva and Daniel’s relationship. I think I understand it but it was never stated in the story and I need something written to feel better because that is one thing I would not like, sharing a man is not good.

After being attacked by a girl gang and left for dead, Jessica finds herself being turned into a vampire by a gorgeous boy she had seen only minutes earlier. Trying to leave her old life and her boyfriend Luke behind is hard especially as Jess appears more human than a vampire should; after all craving toast isn’t usual vampire behaviour. Jess is caught between her first love Luke who seems to be hiding something and Daniel, her vampire saviour who is her protector when unknown powers put her in danger.

I thought this book was absolutely amazing, it is unlike any vampire book I have ever read before and its individuality keeps on increasing the further into the book you read. The vampires are dark and sexy and exactly as a vampire should be. Jessica’s secret heritage means she has powers that make her more than just your average Vampire and she struggles to get control throughout the book. Daniel is deliciously sexy and I definitely want Jessica to forget about Luke so they can be together.

Witchblood has some surprising twists and turns which left me shocked and made the story more amazing and complex. I am looking forwards to seeing what Emma Mills will do with book two as Vampires, Angels and Witches are a very interesting combination. This book beautifully sets up the series and I can tell that Witchcraft is going to be amazing.

Witchblood is the debut novel from Emma Mills, and it is one of my favorites. I am a sucker for vamp stories, without a doubt, but this book is unique in its story. A little bit vamp, a little bit witchy, and a little bit human,... there is a little of everything in this story. Jess is so likeable as a character that it was impossible not to be drawn into the book. She is your normal teenage girl with all the normal teenage angst that we can relate to. The struggle between her humanity and her new vampire life is even more intensified. For the first half of the book, I couldn't decide if I loved Daniel, or wanted to smack him around for turning her. But he was impossible not to love, too!

This story was so much more than a YA vamp tale, though. The vamp/witch aspect was almost an aside to the true thrust of the story. Jess and her struggles, twists and turns, secrets,... all of it made me hard pressed to put it down! The author made these characters come to life, made you feel right along with them. I am a softie for a book that draws me in, and when I started getting teary during key points, you know she had me with her storytelling! I can't wait for more from this author!!
