Mig the Pig meets with adventure while wearing a wig and riding in a gig. Turning the narrower pages in the center of the book changes the first letter of the rhyming words.
Colin Hawkins (1945) was born in Blackpool, England, and won a scholarship to art school at the age of thirteen. He and his wife, Jacqui Hawkins, produced their first children’s book, Witches, in 1981 and over one hundred titles have followed since then.
Mig the pig By Colin Hawkins and Jacqui Hawkins Mig the Pig is a rhyming book with flip pages which change the onset of the words to create new words. I do like the story but do feel it is slightly dated and many children might struggle with the concept of a Gig which appears in the story. Still a great book for EFST and support for phonics work would read this also with Pat the Cat to a class who had just started to read.
I can't believe these are out of print! What a wonderful way to show new readers how changing one letter can change an entire word-- and the kids have fun flipping the pages. I can't believe publisher's haven't figured out what a hit this format is. The closest thing I can find is the Flip-a-Word series.
