A comprehensive and informative guide to “the scene,” or at least what it was in the early 2000s. While the chapters about finding partners in the classifieds or “on the web” are clearly outdated, there is useful information about fetishes, equipment, and safety. The author’s imagination is terrifying (my heart is still palpitating from the train tracks scene) but I love the emphasis on creativity and play. By knowing your sub and planning ahead, you can make a scene your own. Would recommend to anyone interested in the practical applications of dominance and submission.
I recently listened to the audiobook of The Loving Dominant and found it to be full of great information and insights into the BDSM lifestyle. The personal experiences of the authors keep the book from feeling too much like a text book while still providing valuable information. Many topics and kinks are covered with consent and safety at the forefront. The updated book also includes recommendations for other books if the reader would like more detailed resources on specific subjects.
If this is “improved”, I’d hate to read the prior version. The information in this book is not only outdated, but much of the “advice” seems to go against both common kink advice as well as common sense.
There’s a reason folks in my book club now make jokes about “it’s better than being tied to train tracks!” and it’s not because we found the author’s scene suggestion to be helpful.
This book was absolutely incredible and informative! I wish it would have focused on more than just heterosexual couples but I still really enjoyed it and would read it again 🥰
