Logan Briar I tried to keep my head down – I really did – but it goes against everything I’ve grown to be. I’m a fighter, a player, a constant hurricane that can’t be stopped. I walked into Lexington with the goal to go unnoticed – but he saw me. He is arrogant, cocky, frustrating and inappropriate. My stepbrother. I tried to stop it, the freight train of feelings for him, but it barreled through my stone-like exterior just like he did, like a monster of madness and sins.
Carson Raines I set out to torture her – treat her so bad that she’d run from my town and my school with her tail tucked between her legs. But games turned into feelings and feelings turned into obsession. I bit off more than I could chew when I touched Logan Briar for the first time, and I ended up liking her full hips and savage grin a little too much. She turned me into a sinner, and nothing has ever been sweeter.
**Although this book is not classified as dark romance, there are still themes that may be triggering for some readers. The Star is book one in a series of sinful, taboo standalones. The theme of this book is a stepbrother/stepsister relationship. If you have any triggers, it is not recommended to read this book. Please read responsibly. It is recommended by the author to read this book ‘blind,’ but for those of you that require a detailed trigger warning, it will be provided.
When Logan’s dad remarries, she is forced to, not only, move to the swanky gated community the next town over, but also begin attending the private school where labels rule. The cherry on top of the shït sundae is her new stepbrother, Carson, the star quarterback.
The Star is the angsty coming-of-age, forbidden love story between Logan and Carson.

3/5 ⭐️ 3.75/5 🌶
Tropes: - stepbrother romance - “bully” romance - enemies to lovers - forbidden love - insta lust
POV: first person - dual
Type: interconnected stand-alone (book one)
Logan has just lost her mom and within the next two months her life is uprooted when her father proposes to someone who lives in luxury. Now she has to attend a fancy school and has to deal with her new step-brother who can’t decide whether he wants to fuck her or fight her.
Fucking whiplash is what this book gave me. Carson either despised her or wanted to fuck her, there was no in between. Then there would be moments where he would be kinda sweet but within the next chapter it was as if it never happened. And unless I missed something, I don’t even know why he hated her. There was no full on reason (especially considering the fact that Carson was cool with her dad).
I really liked Logan. She was a cool character. She was slightly cringey because of some of the things she said but for now I’ll look past it.
This is kind of a 0 to 100 book. Things are happening out of nowhere. I genuinely thought I had accidentally skipped a few chapters because there were many times I thought “How the fuck did we even get here?”
Because there was a lot of smut scenes (some short) everything else was put on the back burner. The smut felt repetitive—Carson seems to favor eating her out more than anything else which is cool but there would only be minimal dirty talk in each scene so I got bored pretty fast.
SAFETY WARNING: (contain spoilers)
There is a short detailed smut scene between the hero and another woman.
There is a descriptive smut scene between the heroine and one of the hero’s best friends, while the hero and his other best friend watched… This added nothing to the plot besides a gateway to a few jokes after the fact.
*These two scenes are NOT included in my spice rating.*
I don’t like my romance books to have detailed sex scenes with anyone other than the main couple.
He has a “girlfriend” for a huge majority of the book which is whatever BUT what really pissed me off is at one point he KISSED her fucking FOREHEAD and the TIP OF HER NOSE. The timing of said intimacy really set me off considering what had happened prior.
Holy shit. This was wild. I’m normally not a huge fan of the step sibling trope, but in this case it weirdly worked for me. The writing, the characters and the plot were great on their own but combined they got even better.
Let’s talk about the characters first. Logan, our FMC, is uprooted by her father only two months after her mother died in a car crash. He moves them to his new girlfriends’ house in the rich part of the city. The dad is a total piece of shit throughout this whole book, to be honest, I hated him. And Logan deserved so much better, she was strong and a fighter and tried to work with everything that was thrown her way. Which is a main reason why Carson, the MMC, falls for her. He wants to hate Logan, but the more time they spend together, the more he likes her, even though he’s trying not to. He’s very protective about the people he loved and seeing him interact with his friends and mother made me like him a lot. Sarah, Carsons mother, was a sweetheart and again, she didn’t deserve anything Logan’s dad did.
I liked Rosie Alice’ writing style a lot. For me it just felt right and flowed and I didn’t even realize how long I was reading before putting it down to drink something. I read it mostly in one sitting and was completely immersed in this world.
Carson’s friends, Hayden and Levi, were also really great and I’m excited to learn more about them in the next books in this series, we only see them interacting with Carson or Logan and I think they can both also really shine on their own. If it continues like this I’m having a new author for my favorites list right there.
holy shit. i read this in one sitting not even kidding. from 7-10:26 o’ clock at night. i loved this. i ate this shit up faster than logan ran up the stairs to get prepared for carson. if you want step-sibling, hot steamy, possessive caveman, hot tempered mc’s, and a bad bitch FMC then i suggest reading this book. side note the friends??? hayden and levi??? i love them, they added the comedy side to things like who wouldn’t love two boys that fck with each other and have the humor of a 5 year old. I want to know what goes through our lovely mystery boy hayden, and i just want to sit down and laugh my ass off with levi.
“I want you, Logan. That’s all I want, and I’m so fckn tired of not being with you”
carson, your ordinary rich football superstar. he’s got the main cheerleader on his side, everything he could ever ask for. he’s a mamas boy, but not one to the point where you think it’s a little weirder than that. he loved his mom more than anything and only wants to see her happy.
logan, the girl from the wrong side of the tracks. barely has money to cover for new clothes. she thinks she’s better off alone or with her “southside” friends than these preppy fcks. she’s a bad bitch, she doesn’t need any favors nor does she want any.
what happens when they’re thrusted into each other’s lives since their parents are getting married? secrets are spilled, lips are locked, and the lines start to blur.
“I’ll always get on my knees for you, baby.” He looks up at me as he licks across the skin of my belly. “You and only you.”
read to find out what happens between carson and logan and i promise you it’s a fckn wild, hot, steamy ride that’ll leave you hot and bothered.
I've read my fair share of forbidden/enemies-to-lovers/step-sibling romances, and I am adding this one to my list of favorites. I had never heard of this author or this book before I picked it up, so I really had no expectations. So, to say that this is one of my favorite reads so far this year...well, I was pleasantly surprised.
First off, let's talk about this heroine. Logan is a fighter and a player, and she doesn't back down to anyone. When her life is uprooted, she does her best to lay low and roll with the punches, but her new step-brother isn't going to make that easy.
Carson is determined to make Logan's life miserable and to send her back to where she came from. He underestimates his feisty new step-sister though, and before he knows it, lines are being crossed, and he's no longer playing a game.
This book gripped my attention right from the get-go. This is one of those books that you just hate to put down, and I could have easily read in it one sitting had real life not gotten in my way. I loved how Logan and Carson's relationship progressed and how this entire situation unfolded and was dealt with throughout the book. The story took a few turns that I didn't see coming and even made me a bit emotional at times. The secondary characters grabbed my attention too, and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. Until that's available, I'll be checking out some of this author's other books. Rosie Alice has earned herself a new fan.
Hello Taboo?! Okay yes, this genre is really not new to me since I have been reading this type of literature in a different format. Cough (MANHWA/MANGA. H-animation). However, before I start my review. If the taboo "stepbro, I am stuck "- the type of story isn't your cup of tea, then just don't continue with the book or the story. If you still want to continue with the story, then carry on. Also, please check trigger warnings to see if this book is a good fit for you or not. If not, then that's fine, if it is, then do carry on if you are interested in my opinion or this book.
I have devoured this book in a day! Like, I have seen this book floating around and didn't bother to read it because I thought it was a drama type of thing, but no one told me it was dark romance, forbidden love, taboo type of story!
There is bullying and wow whew. It do be spicy AF like omg @_@ Just expect to see so much smut guys. Okay? :) I couldn't stop reading it because of the story and the smut. I wasn't in the mood to do anything but just follow Logan around. It is dark, but it's not super dark. Logan is not the type of girl you can push around. Logan will definitely kick your ASS.
Carson is jealous and possessive, but ahhhh he's just super sweet and intense! And I love that he puts his mom's needs first. What a sweetheart <3
I am starting to like Rosie's stories a lot. Eff it, I just thought it was amazing. I loved how everything fell into place. Yes, it is a HEA for me and a standalone, but the next book will be about another character in the story AND I AM NOT GOING TO LIE I AM VERY HYPED FOR THAT!!!!!!!!! All caps, so I sound intensely EXCITED AF!
I really loved Sara as a side character. Despite everything that happened in the story. She was very supportive and I adore her.
I cannot wait for the next book! :) Definitely reading the rest of the series.
THIS. BOOK. I haven't been invested this much in a book for so long. I started it last night, read it until 3 am and finished it today. Oh and it got me out of a reading slump (at least temporarily)! The story has all the tropes that I love: stepbrothers, tough female character, cocky male character and the best friends (Haydhen is my new crush)
“If anyone else would like to join Team Bitch, please find the fucking door. Now, turn the music back on, daddy feels like dancing.”
The writing style was so good and so easy to follow. I couldn't stop reading! Please please read this book, because I haven't read something this good in a long time and it deserves all the love! The spice is next level. It's sexy, powerful and it never gets repetitive or boring. I love how Carson fell heads over hills with Logan. It's refreshing to see the male character falling first.
“All of our pieces fit together,” I point out. “You push me, fight back, and remind me that if I’m the king… You’re the fucking queen, and everyone knows the queen controls the king.”
A forbidden romance at its finest. I loved reading Logan and Carson’s story so much. From the suspense, to the temptations, to the dirty talk and both Logan and Carson’s chemistry, I was living for it all. I’m a sucker for forbidden romances which made this story all the more enjoyable for me. The sex was extremely hot and I love how protective Carson was over Logan despite anything anyone had to say.
I can’t wait to see what book 2 is gonna be about. I’m hoping it’ll be Hayden’s (One of Carson’s best friends) story because I already love him just by seeing his dark, mysterious and confident persona he had in this story. Ugh I just love men like that.
So I LOVE all things this lovely lady writes! Nightmare, version 1.0 and soon to be 2.0 of In The Dark(coming soon;haven’t read 2.0 yet but I just assume it’s going to be epic) and this beauty The Star!
This is an enemies 2 lovers - step sibling/forbidden love - hot af sexy times w/ a side of trauma story! I’m obsessed and will reread this one over and over - added this book to my twisted comfort read book list.
“That whole “big brother” thing is super-hot, by the way, guys. Kinda fucked up, but hot.” Levi says to us, “Wish I had a stepsister.”
Carson - he is your alpha possessive and slightly jealous high school football star. BUT he has a sweet, caring and compassionate side; does he fall first?!?! You will have to read to see. 🤫 ALSO he’s a proud mamas boy 🥰. Which I soo appreciate and wish more male characters were written this way. He has 2 besties Levi (funny and flirty) and Hayden(serious evil genius who is related to Travis from Nightmare; um... Crossover event please) these guys are my squad goals!
Logan - she’s a boss… a quick witted, sarcastic, doesn’t put up with BS which put together makes her THE strong boss b*tch. She also has built high walls around her emotions and heart. When she starts her new school due to recent events, she just wants to keep her head down and get through the year. To say she reminds me a little (ok a lot) of myself would be true…
There are traumas on both sides that impact these characters which also draws you in. The layers of trauma reveal themselves more throughout there journey together.
There are many moments of “OMG Seriously” or “YESSSSS Please!!”
THIS BOOK!🥵🥵 5/5⭐️ 5/5🌶 First I want to say thank you to Rosie for giving me an ARC!
Before I received the ARC I was counting down daily for this book to release! This book did not disappoint!!
This is a forbidden stepbrother/ stepsister/enemies to lovers Romance! I can’t express enough how well it was written and the storyline was top tier as well as the spicy.🥵 The chemistry between the main characters was phenomenal and written so well!!
Logan- Was one of my favorite FMC to read! She is strong and doesn’t shy away from things! She is also confident in her sex life and I’m 100% here for it!
Carson- Was the guy we all want lol! Possessive, wants what is his and isn’t afraid to take it! And he knows what he’s doing .🔥
ARC REVIEW 😈 5/5 ⭐️ 4/5🌶 This book was literally everything I hoped it would be and then some. I fell in love with the main characters and of course Levi and Hayden ☠️ those boys are literal perfection 😭 The spicy scenes are literally on point. Carson is your typical QB hottie but with a soft spot for Logan 🖤 I love that Logan just doesn’t give a fuck about anyone else’s opinion about anything . My kinda girl 😜 Nobody could come between them and their love. All I can say about little miss cheerleader is, I wanted to punch her multiple times 😂
I will recommend this book a million times over again 🖤 Rosie is one of my all time favorite authors and I can’t wait to read more from her
WOW! Where do I even start? When I saw Rosie post an excerpt, I knew I needed this, and she DID NOT disappoint. Logan is the bada$$ from the wrong side of the tracks who doesn’t GAF, and Carson is the spoiled rich boy trying to live up to his late father’s legacy. When they’re thrust together, tensions run HOT and high. This story had it all. Angst, a little bit of drama, banter, and steam. GOD THE STEAM! I even found myself falling in love with the side characters— Hayden and Levi. Defiantly a top read of mine for the year. Highly recommend! 5/5 ⭐️ 4/5 🌶
I really enjoyed this story it’s your typical high school step brother with some bullying romance it’s filled with angst emotions high school drama and steam . Logan and Carson chemistry was intense I loved the side characters the sex scenes were super spicy these two couldn’t keep their hands off each other this book is definitely one of Rosie’s hottest books she’s written in my opinion. Overall it’s a fantastic read and I definitely recommend!
“I want you, Logan. That’s all I want, and I’m so fucking tired of not being with you.”
Carson Raines possessive, demanding, your typical QB type. Underneath it all though he is so sweet and protective and swoon-worthy 😻
Logan Briar is my spirit animal honestly. She’s a do what I want no fucks given kinda girl. I need a Logan in my life 😅
The pull between these two is undeniable right from the beginning. Their banter is fantastic. Not just between Logan and Carson but with Levi and Hayden as well.
On that note Hayden and Levi are fantastic side charters. Levi is so lovable and hilarious. Hayden is such a mystery and I want to know what’s going on in his mind.
Illustration By NastyCartoonizer Bully step-brother novella time!
I wasn't expecting this. This pretty much sums it up: "I know this game; I’ve known this game forever. And it may work on the naïve girls that were born in Luxington, raised with silver spoons in their mouths, but it won’t work on me. I’m the player, not the one that gets played."
Logan is a girl from the other side of the tracks and Carlson is a rich high school football player. Carlson is not happy to suddenly have a new step-sister and sets his mind on f-ing with her. But Logan is no martyr and she knows how to play the game. She may be from the other side of the tracks but she's beautiful, social, and outgoing. And Carlson is in over his head.
This is not your classic 'sexy-stepbrother-the-bully' story. If anything, it seems that our girl Logan has the reins. Oh, and you're also not going to see Logan running off to get a new job in order to not touch her parent's money. They're rich, they won't miss chump change.
Basically, his mom and her dad met a few months ago and are getting married, C & L dislike each other because of some stupid clash of schools/towny thing: "Luxington (rich) " vs "Franklin (hood)".
They are forced to live together and be a family but, of course, they hate each other so they fight, they banter, they do some dumb dares but yah now there's a fragile line between hate and love.
I did not connect with the characters but I did feel empathic with them and their family situations.
The narration isn't bad but it's a little bit childish and slightly cringy, some "catchphrases" and "cool slang" had me rolling my eyes.
Don't get me wrong, the story is not bad and it has a nice pacing, everything is very clear and interesting, but I have to be honest and say that I skipped a lot of chapters because there were just s*x scenes, and personally when I read a book that is too full of smutty scenes it gets monotonous and boring, I really wish she had invested more in the development of the characters instead of in the raging hormonal descriptive narrations.
I don't love it but I liked it, the story was good but lack execution, it's her first book so I understand it's obviously not going to be perfect, she has so much potential thoe, I'm pretty sure she'll learn and polish her work as she grows and gets experience.
Pleaseeeeee, stop overfilling books with s*x scenes!
Thanks to the amazing author for providing the arc ❤️
4.5 Stars!! EDIT. coming back to bump it to 5 stars because I’m still thinking about this book. I absolutely adored how Rosie found the perfect balance of asshole & golden retriever and smooshed it into the being in which is Carson Raines. Secondly… strong, sassy, unapologetic, female lead? CHECK AND CHECK. Lo reminded me of home. She was comfort. She was expressive and emotional. But, she was one of the strongest female leads I’ve seen. Not even due to circumstances but she was written *consistently*. There was never a time in which Lo was not outspoken and confident. She was hands down, a Queen. The story seemed to flow flawlessly, secondary characters had depth as much as the main ones did. The spicy scenes were ❤️🔥. They began to happen somewhat repetitively towards the end—the only reason I didn’t give it a 5. Don’t get me wrong, Rosie writes spice verrrrry well. I also love spice. But, she had managed to make me continue reading for her characters, not the smut. (Writing good sex is common… writing such real characters and mixing it into a taboo scenario? Hardly ever done correctly. So naturally, I wanted more “moments” between these perfectly written characters.) It isn’t often I choose a characters development and interaction over a nicely written d-down. That being said, it’s a compliment. I don’t often hype characters so heavily… because they usually don’t leave me missing them so much at the end. This reread has me drooling for her upcoming novella “Paradise”.
To be honest, I don’t remember fuck all about this book, I skipped so many pages after about 40% in. The heroine was a pick me wannabe tough girl, the hero was a ‘bad boy’ for like 2 whole chapters then turned his life around. I didn’t know whether the hero’s two best friends were good or bad people 🤷🏼♀️ The writing style felt immature to me and the way the characters interacted just wasn’t it in my opinion. The dad was a piece of shit and the heroine (big tough girl that didn’t let shit fly) literally forgave him for all his shitty decisions. I did like how the hero was with his mum, was super sweet.
(2.5) this book wasn’t bad, per-say, but it wasn’t that good either. i always like smut in a book, i do, but this was a bit much. to me, it seemed like there was more sex scenes than meaningful content in this book. it was fast paced, yes, but i also found logan’s “no-rules bad girl” persona so be a little annoying. it might just be me, but i wasn’t a huge fan of this
Logan's whole life has been uprooted. She lost her mom, her dad met someone new, proposed and now shs is being moved to the rich side of town.
When she gets to the new mansion they will be living in, she finds out that she has a new stepbrother, Carson.
Carson is not happy about having a new step sister. He is the star QB of the school, "dating" the head cheerleader, your typical jock.
But, things quickly hear up between these 2, and goodness gracious does it get HOT!!
Logan is now one of my favorite FMC. She is feisty, blunt and doesnt take any shit from anyone.
Carson is the perfect book boyfriend!! Caveman tendencies, a dirty mouth, and knows how to take what he wants.
The Star is so well written, the characters are AMAZING, the spice is 🔥🔥🔥🔥, it's just all around PERFECT!! If you love enemies to lovers, forbidden stepsister/stepbrother romance, you are gonna love The Star!!
I'm a little bit behind on posting my edits and reviews. I absolutely love Rosie's writing and her books.
Check TW before reading this book
This book is about Logan who has lost her mother and ends up overhearing a conversation her father is having when all of a sudden her world flips up side down. Her father has just told her that he has been seeing someone and they are going to be moving to the other side of the tracks to life with them. What she doesn't expect is to find she has a step brother she knew nothing about.
Carson does not expect to find his step sister attractive and start flirting with her. He makes it his mission to torture Logan along with his friends. What he doesn't expect to happen is to find her attractive and have different feelings towards her. He is the star Quarter back of his football team and he is dating Cassidy the head cheerleader but it is all for show. He has his sights set on Logan even though he is supposed to hate her.
What happens when they slowly start to give in to their feelings!?
Rosie is always putting crack in her books, I’ve been addicted and LORD. Logan is another character that I’ve immediately loved, her sassiness, her kindness, her harshness, she is hard but soft and that’s because of the way she grew up and I loved that.
“A small shopping day for me is buying an old band tee at the Goodwill, not buying a two-thousand dollar backpack.”
I’ve never related to anything MORREEE, than that quote lmao, Logan’s Dad is newly engaged and he drags her to the other side of the tracks. There is sorrow and misery but Logan gets through it bc she’s a BADDIIIEEE and wel her step-bro is there every step of the way.. catch me?! If not even better. Carson on the other hand, quarterback, the golden boy. Rosie Alice has a way with her writing when it comes to situations like this, I loved how realistic this was, the steam, the smut, the slight turn of events that honestly I didn’t see coming. The love I have for the bromance between Carson, Levi and Hayden. I want MORE AND MORE.
🌊 step-siblings ✨hood girl/rich guy 🌊 possessive & dominant MMC & FMC ✨super spicy 🌊 enemies to lovers
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. An enemies to lovers and stepbrother/stepsister relationship added to the mix was the cherry on the hot sundae.
First off I love Rosie Alice’s writing style. The story flowed well, and I didn’t realize I was done until I was done. She kept me on my toes and enthralled in the storyline.
The main characters, Logan and Carson, I can go on and on about them, but I’m not one to ruin stuff. LOL
The storytelling was phenomenal. The steam off the freaking charts. The banter I freaking adored between all the characters. The ah-ha moments was a banger.
The side characters, Hayden and Levi, had meat to them, making me want to know even more about them. I fell in love with both of them.
I personally can’t wait to see what Alice comes out with next. I will definitely be reading more of her books and highly recommend them to anyone.
