While there is much "CHAOS" on Cybertron, there's no less bedlam here on Earth as our remaining Autobots investigate the accusation that Spike, their trusted human ally, murdered a Transformer Prowl and Jazz take center stage as the alliance between the two races are on the brink. Also includes the Prowl Spotlight.
Better than much of Costa's run on Earth, but still mired by the fact that humans are profoundly boring. The twist in regards to Spike's actions all along is better than nothing, but doesn't feel worth an 30 issue run to pay off.
This volume wraps up the dangling Earth-based plot threads from this Transformers run. It's fine, although the degree that everything is presented as a mystery/conspiracy doesn't seem proportionate to what we actually learn. Also, I don't know that Jazz has the authority to do what he does at the end... (B)
Billed as "The Last Story on Earth" I thought this was much better than the massive scale Cybertron war happening in the other parallel story arc. Lots of secrets were revealed and a massive conspiracy uncovered. That's more my thing, not major battles with little point and major body counts. If you like true crime and sci fi together, this is the story for you.
It's Transformers for adults. Deep storytelling on a level far above the original animated series, yet still having the same nostalgic aesthetic. It's really good. Recommended.
Art by Brendan Cahill and E.J. Su. A small cast of characters convey larger narratives unfolding in a clearly told story with intent. Makes for an easy and engaging thrill of escapist reading.
The title sort of says it all. Autobots working unilaterally to figure out what the head of a clandestine military org did unilaterally means almost inevitably a romanticized notion of policing. Yay!
