Ezcape from Sobibor
On October 14, 1943, over 700 Jews carried out a daring escape from the Nazi extermination camp at Sobibor, Poland. The standard histories of the event, however, leave out a crucial detail about how they managed such a feat against overwhelming odds. It turns out that they got some outside help from a completely unexpected source.It's hard to imagine that zombies could ever be good guys. Until, that is, they come into contact with the butchers who ran Sobibor. Some readers have unaccountably thought this short story is meant to be history. While it has a historical setting, it is FICTION. If you are looking for Holocaust history, please look elsewhere, and do not drop the star rating because this story is not what you thought it was.

Nazi Concentration camp victims turn zombie and kill SS troops. Why? The implication is that God heard the Jewish prayers and answered them in this strange fashion. The SS deserved it, but a story of concentration camp zombies is of questionable taste. Particularly with Sobibor as the setting. It cheapens the bravery of those real life men and women who rose up, slew their oppressors and escaped. Mr. Fischler has produced a well written story but will raise the ire of many readers with his premise.
Addendum: I just skimmed through the other Amazon reviews and discovered that many of the five star reviewers either did not actually read the story or have such short memories that they forgot the plot before they wrote their reviews.

Concentration camp zombies?!
Disgusting!!. Making light of the holocaust by turning the victims of the gas chambers into zombies!!?? In very poor taste! Shame on the author!

I thought this book was a complete mockery and disrespect to the people who died here. To turn a tragedy into a zombie story, I thought that was very unwarranted. Granted, I do respect the fact, even through fiction, that those individuals got their revenge on the ones who were slaughtering them and do wish that part was true minus the zombie aftermath. However, I just feel that this story disregards and calls attention away from the Jewish people who were there and their daring escape. I don't think I'll be recommending this story to anyone.

Absolutely disgusting. I don't even know how I got a copy, but since it was on my Kindle, I imagine it was free or I bought it while my Melatonin and muscle relaxers were kicking in -- a random purchase but based on my interest in WWII and the Holocaust.
This is NOT a true story about Sobibor. It's not even a good example of historical fiction. It's a great example of bird cage lining, but alas, Kindle, not paper, so fictional bird cage. My fictional bird cage metaphor at least makes sense.
This is a short story, taking 30 minutes to read. That's fine. I've read and reviewed a number of short stories. I like short stories. But this book does what I never thought could happen -- it offended me. I am not a PC sort of person, I don't believe in book banning, I believe in freedom of speech. Freedom of speech allows me to write this. You don't have to agree with me, either. But in my opinion, one should NEVER use the HOLOCAUST as a vehicle to write about zombies.
For heaven's sake. Seriously? Sobibor was freed by zombies???? Mr. Fischler, surely you could have found a better historical reference than THAT. Washington crossing the Delaware only to be stopped by zombies. The French Revolution with a cadre of zombie spies. But the HOLOCAUST? And you, a MINISTER even? That is truly, completely, the icing on the cake.
If I could give this negative numbers, I would. Do not waste your time. Even before I got to the zombies, I had my mental red pen out wondering what made this person think they could write. But then, freedom of expression. So express yourself, sir, any way you like. I will certainly not be reading anything else you produce.

Not at all what I expected when I downloaded this book.
At first, I have to admit, I was shocked and stunned when the Author made the leap into the bizarre, but as I continued reading ... I loved it.
Isn't it what we all want ? The evil that men do to be punished, somehow, someway,
even if it is by fictional zombies ripping out the necks of those sadistic Nazi B*st*rds.
I in no way found this to be disrespectful to the millions who died in The Holocaust.
If anything, I find it wishful thinking on the part of the Author that something, anything,
could have/would have happened to end this horrific time period in history before more lives were lost.
May I suggest to the naysayers some videos easily found on youtube?

Not What I expected!
I've read a lot of fiction regarding the Holocaust over the years, but this was definitely a first. Perhaps I am too invested in the reality of what happened. All I can say is that was 30 minutes of My life I will never get back. It is one thing to write historical fiction. It's just not justified to go to such extremes. Just thankful I got this as a Kindle loaner.

For the first time I had mixed feelings about a book I read. I loved the idea of the Nazis getting what they deserved. However, I am not a fan of zombies so that part was a bit hard to justify. This is a short story that starts off telling events of the transportation of Jews in cattle cars to Sobibor. A mother asks the rabbi how God could allow this to happen to them. The rabbi admits he doesn't know and also shows he is just as angry and frustrated. The author was creative when he decided revenge should be done by zombies. I can't say I didn't enjoy this short story. It was just a strange one, although the conclusion was satisfying.

nonsense!
Ridiculous story. I study the plight of those affected by the Nazis and thought this would be like the many books I have read. I was sorely disappointed by this nonsense!! And to see that it is written by a man of the cloth disturbed me very much. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone that takes WW II serious!!

Hated it. They kill a newborn infant in this and throw him away like he's just a discarded piece of trash and then proceed to grope the grieving mother's crotch and call her a whore.
As a parent this book triggered me and I had a hard time finishing it.

Ok, that was not what I expected ...
Like many other reviewers , I also thought this book was historical non fiction .. It starts out like many stories of people who have either had stories writteb by witnesses to or by people who have survived concentration camps themselves , and stays relatively within the style of non fictional holocaust narratives . Up until the get gassed in the gas chambers... until the victims then rise as zombies and promptly kill all the Nazis. I'll be honest here and cop to the fact that i didn't read the entire story description before i downloaded the book. The author can't be blamed for not telling people in advace what the story was abiut, however Amazon formatted it so that the part where the author discloses that this is zombie fiction appears below the fold and you actually have to click "More" before the description will load the rest of the words. So, it's definitely my bad that i went and downloaded it without reading the full blurb. Becauss of this, i was quite shocked when the narrative took this sudden and unexpected turn. Once i had gotten past that and talking of the story itself, I will say that its a very short story, and i read the entire book in less than 15 minutes . I was quite surprised and a little put off to read that the author was actually a Christian minister. You don't expect zombie holocaust fiction books that come from a reverend , especially about something that so many people are justly sensitive about. All in all the story was so quickly told and such a brief read that one can't fully appreciate the authors skill and the story itself due to it being over before you can realky settle in to the book properly.

This short story set in World War II Poland is pretty good, with developed characters, a smooth storyline, and nice, even pace.

This book will teach me not to just go by the title but to actually read the precis and synopsis. Initially the author had lulled me into a false sense of security, the characters were developing nicely, and it seemed as though the research had been carried out diligently. Then it all seemed to go a bit pear shaped, I will not tell you how as I wouldn't want to spoil it for people. For me it was the early part of the read which boosted my rating up to 2 stars, otherwise it would have been just the one.

This was a completely misleading work. I assumed it was a short story about a factual escape from a terrible extermination camp. However, it was a fictional tale that got weird very quickly. Who thinks that the Holocaust and zombies should be mixed together in a cross-breeding of genres? I think it is an abhorrent idea. Though it was well written, and just a short story, I would only suggest it for those sinister zombie/vampire aficionados. If you love history, and or are interested in reading about the Sobibor Extermination camp, do not read this book.

I was not prepared for how this book ended. Just like the many accounts shared from the Holocaust that I've read before, it started with a scary trip in an insanely-packed cattle car full of Jewish people on the way to their deaths. But then, something truly incredible and unexpected happens. Something that blew my freakin' mind. You have got to read this book and find out! OK, I'll give you this: God said, "Let vengeance be Mine!" Anything is possible, right? Well yeah, but I sure wasn't expecting this!

I downloaded this book from kindle without reading the entire synopsis so I did not know it involved zombies until I got to that point in the story. up to that point, the author had done his homework and knew what he was writing about. based upon that portion, I would have given three stars. But, zombies are not my thing and so in the end, I only gave it two stars.

Usually I like to read historical novels or biographies on the events of World War II but I think Quentin Tarantino may have taken over the story part way through. The Zombie theme was totally unexpected. Still some sobering and thought provoking moments in the interactions between the characters on the train.

Not at all what I expected. I was expecting a historic fiction book. It's a zombie book... or vampire book; however you choose to look at it. not a horrible read. It's great to fill time, take at face value and periodically reflect on later. I have mixed feelings, but it's not too bad.

Silly Fiction
A zombie story set during the Holocaust. Many see it as offensive, but personally I enjoyed the idea of holy vengeance in the form of flesh-eating monsters. Historical fiction attempting to give revenge to those who died in Sobibor.

Wow. This book was really good. It helped you to visualize what really happened in the concentration camps, and how they were completely misled to the doom they were about to face.
