Digging Up Bones

Rate this book
Kasia Payne is stuck in the the middle of the afternoon, the middle of September, and the middle of the Utah desert. When you're on your own and penniless by the side of the road and all you can see from where you're sitting is the skeletal remains of a town called Starvation, one thing becomes very clear to you and that is that the middle is no place for a girl to be. With nothing but her thumb and a beat-up backpack, Kasia believes she is up for anything and anyone that will get her one step closer to her ultimate destination of that sweet Georgia coastline, preferably before winter sets in, but in her case, "anything" turns out to be Girl-Friday for a handsome paleontologist at a secluded dig site even further over the edge of Nowhere, and "anyone" happens to include an evil arch-nemesis and his henchmen. To top it all off, her new boss isn't content with mere menial labor, he actually wants her to take a hard look at her life and come to terms with an unhappy past and an uncertain future, and he's not above using the most basic form of discipline to do it. It's going to be a long six weeks for Kasia Payne, and she's got to spend it digging up bones. Mature subject matter for adults only. 5.5 x 8.5 perfect paperback, 151 pages, 64,943 words

The author is very talented in some ways... I adored her style of writing and the characters she created. I went into the book knowing that it involved spanking, but the way it was done just felt weird. I was always thrown off every time it came in there, because something about it just didn't mesh. Add to it the ages of the characters and it really felt more like they were hooking up because of a daddy/daughter fetish than for actual romantic (or even sexual!) purposes.

Kasia is homeless and could use a good job. Ez is short an assistant and could use the help so its a great match. This story is full of humor and dry wit especially when dealing with Ez's evil nemesis. I felt that the reactions of Kasia were very real. While this story isn't a traditional tearjerker there were some emotional moments as Kasia comes to terms with her own internal struggles as she journeys to come home for maybe the first time.

This is a very good story that was very realistic and emotional. The characters feel real and there reactions to the situations in the book are very funny at times. There is also an evil nemesis that flows right into the plot andd really moves things along.
