"Jolly" Roger Bradfield is perhaps best known for his work as a children's book author and illustrator, though he also worked as a cartoonist on the daily comic strip Dooley's World.
He retired from writing in 1988 to focus on painting.
I liked this book, the illustrations were so fun with different mediums included. I loved that it taught a theme of working together and finding peoples different strengths. However, when the wizard came and was turned away by the king, he just left and cast the cloud over the town without ever coming back or trying to make things hard for them again. My husband and I felt a bit confused about that but other than that, it was a great book and I would add it to my collection.

Is your kid scrawny? Is he a fatty? Or, worst of all, a middling mediocre? Then give him this book, and watch his self-esteem soar. Actually (spoiler alert, as the scrawny kids say), the only giant who does any good in this story is the biggest one. So get your kids some free weights.
This was my daughter's favorite when she was a child and we've looked and looked for it ever since. In addition to the moral of the story--which is lovely--kids learn a bit about comparing items for size. IF you're lucky enough to find a copy, SNATCH IT UP NOW!!!!
This book is about a kingdom on an island that grows hamburgers. A wizard goes to the island to try to marry the princess but is kicked out instead. He is upset so he makes darkness hover over the island. Giants come to move the island out of the darkness. The biggest giant was able to move the island and the kingdom was happy again. The colors are bright which makes the reader think the story is a happy one. The pictures are painted carelessly. I would have my child read this book if they were able to read well because there are some words in this book that can be unfamiliar to younger children.
I get so nostalgic about this book that I don't know if I can review it objectively! But my sibs and I always loved this story about a sad island under an evil wizard's spell - a huge grey cloud which blotted out every bit of sunlight and killed all of the gentle citizens' hamburger crops, until the giants More, Much, and Most came to help.
This is a fun book. It's a little long but it would be good to read before lunch. Its a funny book that has some interesting turns. It makes you glad that Giants come in Different sizes! It also teaches you that when you are faced with a difficult situation don't try to change yourself but change the situation.
