Pretty Boring for how it was Marketed

The introduction to this book had me grinning from ear to ear. It was bold, fun, flirty, quite sexy and it set the tone for what I thought would be the read of the actual story. Chapter 1 solidified that I had made the right choice. Or so I thought. Unbeknownst to me, this would be on the snooze side.

How do you make a book and double c*cks AND tentacles, boring?!! Howww??? In a nutshell, everything happened in the span of ONE week. A single week to find out who was sabotaging the performers, meet and fall in love with mates, convince your mate’s royalty of a parents that you’re a good match for the future queen, prevent a chancellor (or ex chancellor, depending on the sentence- this was confusing. Sometimes he was the chancellor and sometimes he was the ex- chancellor. Clearly a typo that could have benefitted from an editor) from facing punishment from breaking some centuries old rule put in place by his people and decide how to make the relationship among all three work. If this was a lot for you to read, IMAGINE reading the plot with all of that happening in a week!!

Chapter 1 was beautiful. I can’t lie. The description of the costume, the scenario, the chaos behind the stage as the stagehands and performer came together to make sure the show runs smoothly- all of it held me enraptured. Even the meeting of the mates, it was done quite brilliantly. Unfortunately, it seemed as though the author was in a rush to get to the smut scenes (which don’t get me wrong here, I picked up this book knowing I was going in for the smut. Tentacles have me in a chokehold guys. -prayers, prayers, sorrows. lol). The rush to get to the smut robbed us of the build up and pay off that would have worked out fantastically in story such as this.

Characters were meh after the initial dates. All potential development got shucked to the back of a cow (expression used here). Toras was almost too gentle and sickeningly sweet. I think Zin was supposed to be the ‘alpha’ of the throuple, but even he came off sickeningly sweet and mostly just annoying. Side note, was it just me who kept seeing Lord Beerus from Dragon Ballz everytime Toras was on the page? Even with the image of him being shown to us. He was Lord Beerus and that was that.

Stella felt more like a voyeur than an additional mate, if I’m being honest. It’s as though Zin and Toras loved each other and was simply okay with sometimes sharing themselves and each other with her. She was a side character in the entire mate bond. They kept doing this without her. Even making love and they felt more connected on a deeper level than her. It just wasn’t a MFM. It was Zin and Toras and sometimes Stella.

Everything was solved too easily. The culprit injuring performers. Stella’s unwillingness to give up working and stay in the planet and prepare to become the queen. Toras breaking the rules. There was zero build up or struggle. All problems were wrapped into a neat little bow with no drama or anything. Made for a boring read.

Finally, what we all read for. The sex scenes were huge let downs. After the second one, I started skimming knowing it was just a rehash of more of the same. Again, how do you make a tentacle and double c*cks a BORING read?!!! Wasted opportunity.

Reading Zin and Toras using ‘little star’ or ‘princess’ EVERY second sentence, was like pouring salt into my eyes. My body started having a visceral reaction to reading it. If I never see the phrase and that word again, it will be too soon.

Probably won’t pick up anything else in the series as I did not feel strongly about this one to continue. Gorgeous cover and beautiful artwork of the characters, though.

I honestly want to live in Clio Evans’ head. Because this new alien romance series is legit, but definitely left me thinking “HOW DOES SHE COME UP WITH THIS STUFF?!”

📔 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼: Cosmic Kiss, book one in the Galactic Gems series by Clio Evans.

📚𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Sci-fi romance, MMF, monster erotica, erotic suspense, so many tentacles, they both fall hard and fast.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Stella is a headliner in the Galactic Gems burlesque show. On the first night in a new planet, she sees Toras and Zin in the front row and there’s an instant connection. The two (alien) men have a past, and seem to be at each other’s throats… but they both also claim Stella is their mate.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: I mean… I’m definitely excited that the first book in this series played out so well. Because Creature Cafe had me by the throat, and it looks like I’m getting set up for another ride… but this time, we are in space.

I loved the burlesque backdrop to this story, and the idea that these stories will take place on different worlds as the tour travels the galaxy. Madam Moony, the head of the show, is a mysterious central character I can’t wait to know more.

And Clio Evans does is all a favor and provides in-book character art! So while I found it hard to wrap my head around Toras’ appearance, she spelled it out for me and boom, I was hooked.

This is as if Ice Planet Barbarians was erotica - there’s solid spice, a great plot, cool characters… everything you could want. I can’t wait for the next edition, for sure.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I really liked the beginning but the plot was sadly not for me... 2,5 🌟

What I liked

🐙 The burlesque setting and the idea of it to be intergalactic. I have always loved bar scenes in Sci-fi movies because you could see all sort of aliens and this gave me the same feeling.

🐙 I had a lot of fun in the beginning. The idea was new and I was hooked. And the guys fighting over Stella, loved it.

🐙 The cover and the illustrations are beautiful, really stunning!

🐙 The only thing I knew before I started reading was that this book was about burlesque alien smut. So I was surprised that it was MMF. My first book in this section and I kinda liked it.

🐙 The spicy scenes 🌶 🌶 🌶🌶🌶!

What I l did not like

🐙 I did not like the pacing. They fell for each other the second they saw one another. That was just not my cup of tea. I wished it was a little bit more slow burn, even though they knew that they were mated. I really liked their dates and the tension in the beginning and was a bit ``sad`` that it did not last that long.

🐙 The characters seemed a bit flat. The boys could only think about their mates and their problems were so easily solved. Zin and Toras loved Stella immediately before even knowing her. I wanted more conflicts to be solved and more drama.

🐙 The burlesque plot with the poison. I liked the political problem and thought it would take longer to solve.

CW - voyeurism, DP, DVP, thorough use of tentacles, rimming, eating cum, breeding kink, public play

Tropes - instalove, love triangle to polyam - MMF, paranormal

Clio Evans stays feeding us these short monster romances and I stay living for it. They really do serve as a short, sweet and spicy read good for basically any mood you're in

For the characters in this story, it was love on sight for both Prince Zin (MMC) and Chancellor Toras (MMC) as soon as Stella (FMC) opened the burlesque show with her routine. However..... there is some... tension between Zin and Toras from their past that I was all too eager for them to unwrap.

Despite this being MMF (my fav kind of throuple), I felt like the MMCs were all about her and, naturally, Clio did not disappoint on the smut 🥵. It was hot and her monsters stay having some very interesting anatomy

Can't wait for the next instalment in Cosmic Rush

3.25 - 3.5 stars!

Cosmic Kiss was cute, steamy and really enjoyable to read. However, like with most books with a heroine and two heroes that are also together...well I could have done without the FMC. The MMCs had something extra between them and I was invested in their bond.

I don't know....maybe it's a ME problem?

description

I think it's very hard to write MMF and not feel like one character is on the sidelines. I can recall only one or two books I've read that worked for me.

Besides that? This was fun and I definitely recommend!

This was such a fast, fun read with an amazing romance and the tiniest bit of angst to hit that sweet spot I look for in a read!

The burlesque night club in space setting was *chef’s kiss*! The ambiance felt sultry and fun without being too dark. The mystery surrounding the performers brought just enough added plot to keep me engaged outside of the romance, and Madame Moonie is officially my new favorite character. Seriously, I love her.

As for the romance, I was a little concerned when it started off with a love triangle (and I won’t lie, I hated that dynamic), but it moved very quickly into a more polygamous relationship that I adored. Zin and Toras were so smitten with Stella; I loved how eager they were to make her happy! And I thoroughly enjoyed the backstory between Zin and Toras as well. It added some angst to the story and left me melting for all three of these characters.

I’m so excited to read more in this series!

As someone who followed the path from quizilla to fanfiction.net to Ao3- I am a huge fan of crack fic. I love that shit- it gives me *SUCH* a high! I'll be giggling like a maniac and just completely beside myself with laughter.

This reads like crack fic in the best fucking way.

Now to be clear, this book is ridiculous. It's seemingly meant to be ridiculous. The plot is rather thin, but this is erotica. It's not trying to be some amazing sci fi story. It's smut central and fun as hell.

“Yes. ‘How to Date a Human 101’ specifically said—”
-
“Unhand—er, tentacle—me,” he growled.

25% in and they've got tentacles sliding under hemlines in a restaurant. Not even 50% in and we've got men on their knees professing their feelings to our heroine.

Smut notes: This (and seemingly all the other books by Evans that I immediately started reading) contain breeding kink, but no actual pregnancy. There's obviously some monstery sex as well as the why choose trope.

Clio Evans is a drug and I'm an addict.

I save their books so I don't run out. Queens and Monsters is now out so I could read this.

They are silly, over the top, the plot can sometimes leave a lot to be desired but I'm just hooked. I always have a great time and they are super speedy to read so I just lap it up and wait for the next one. If you are ever feeling slumpy I recommend giving Clio Evans a try.

I think I would have read another 100 pages with these three!

How woefully tragic it is, spending my precious free time on the weekend....reading a book I didn't enjoy.

Tentacles do bring me joy though.

So I like the concept: FMC is a burlesque performer who accidentally falls into the lap (literally) of two VIP audience members who end up being her mates. Kicker is, the two males also have a history with each other hehehe.

What was not ideal: lack of relationship development. FMC agrees to go on a date with each male, separately, and they get hot and heavy right off the bat and somehow they agree to be a throuple out of no where lol. Sure, the males feel the pull towards FMC, but the FMC not feeling her own tug towards them was disappointing. Yes, FMC gets mega turned on with the guys but it's not the saaaaame.

Plot line about the sabotage, I get why it's there. But why is this there? lol.

Eh. I've given Clio's works many a chance now and they're just not for me. I have ONE more book on my physical TBR that I'll give a go, but I don't think I'll go out of my way to try them in the future.

BEBC - July 2023

Toras looked at me, and despite having such different features, his expression of distaste was still so similar. “Prince Zin,” he said flatly. “I thought you were remaining in the auditorium.”
I held up Stella’s corset. “She dropped this. Rather elegantly, I must say.”

I have to admit, I was taken up by cover-lust while anticipating this read! Isn't it lovely? The cover and the art/character cards shared by the author prior to this books release (and during the read itself) really helped set some great imagery in my head for this alien burlesque setting. Though I do have to wonder if the art didn't exist, if I would have struggled even more with the basic worldbuilding.

“Perfect,” I murmured.
“Then… we have a date. A date night,” Toras said.
“A sleepover,” she said.

There were little ideas throughout this book that I really enjoyed, like I do admit to being a little bored overall though - most of the book was sugary sweet and even Clio's history of spicy spice couldn't make up for it. In fact, I think that overall, the spice didn't really match the rest of the content. It was nothing

“Have I made you weak?” I whispered.
“You’ve weakened me in a way that’s made me stronger than ever before, little star.”

While I don't think it was Clio Evan's best writing, I still look forward to Cosmic Crush: An Alien Burlesque Romance in November - how can you resist a 'Wild West' planet next?

In true Clio fashion, this book was 70% smut and mostly cozy, although there are a few scary moments. Stella was confident, talented, passionate, and kind; everything you’d want from a burlesque dancer. Toras was and interesting mix of shy and outspoken. Zin was playful, horny, and a bit of a cin-a-roll. They had great chemistry and found solutions to their different walks of life that didn’t require abandoning dreams.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: poisoning (side characters), knife threat, fall, involuntary photos taken (not intimate moments)

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ - Spice quality/quantity, execution

“We want to worship and cherish you, little star, together.” - Cosmic Kiss by Clio Evans

Stella is the latest star to the Galactic Gems Burlesque Show, and her disaster of a premiere performance lands her into the eager arms of two hot aliens. Prince Zin promises her a life of luxury and pleasure, while Toras has a talent of making her feel sensations she’s never felt before. Will Stella choose which hunk from space she wants to be with, or does her heart require more?

When the spice is so nice, you’re seeing stars should be part of legendary author Clio Evans’ marketing campaign because her all-new sci-fi series starts with a Big Bang like no other. “Cosmic Kiss” is an alien why choose romance with aesthetic elements of Moulin Rouge and Jupiter Ascending, but with spicy scenes that is truly out of this galaxy.

Zin and Toras have their own tragic history together before Stella came into the picture with a relationship that flows in intensity between love, smut, and heartbroken hate. Thankfully, that third thing doesn’t last for long once our heroine arrives on the scene, thrusting our trio into a sweet yet sexy monster alien fest for us hungry readers. And Ms. Evans doesn’t hold back with her writing either, delivering tentacles, double peens, and knotting, oh my.

Our characters do feel a bit flat at times, as with the plot. But as it develops from instant declarations of possession to courting scenes, their relationship does feel earned later on. And with a simple story and a bit of action at the end, “Cosmic Kiss” promises a hot yet enjoyable time.

Final Smut Archie assessment: Are you seeing stars yet?

I've had the new sequel of this book on my TBR for a while and finally decided to star the series!

This book focuses on interstellar burlesque performer Stella who literally catches the attention of Prince Zin and Chancellor Toras during her first headline performance for her troupe.

The Good
The concept of this book was so fun! I love alien romance and MMF so this was the perfect story for me. There was just enough world-building, plot, and character depth to balance out the incredible spicy scenes and I loved all three of the characters. I am a sucker for fated mates and trouples and both were done perfectly here. I also loved the inclusion of Stella and the wonderful artwork of her. The special touches like the bonnet for her hair showed that the author cared about the representation she was adding to her book. I appreciated it a lot.

The Bad
My only complaint is that I feel like the biggest issue in their relationship wasn't resolved in a realistic enough way for me. I love a HEA but I kind of wanted more resolution to the major hurdles in their relationship.

Tropes:
— Love triangle to trouple
— Alien x Alien x Human
— Fated Mates

Horn Level: 5/5🌶️
Format: Ebook

The Rating
I give this book a 4/5🌟 rating. I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next installment!

"I stared at them, their words echoing through my head. We want to be with you. We want to be your mates, We want to worship and cherish you, little star, together."

I had such a fun time reading this book! To be fair, I always have a fun time when it involves alien romances. If all my hours playing Mass Effect tells you anything, it's that I love a fun, steamy, alien romance. We get three perspectives; one from Stella, our female lead and a burlesque performer, then there's Zin who's the next in line for the throne in the Monarch Galaxy, and lastly we have Tors, a chancellor and our virgin, male lead. The dynamic between all three of these characters was so well balanced and I loved how there's a whole scene of teaching Toras about what's enjoyable for Zin and Stella. The author always write these type of scenes so well and laces it with so much love, and passion between the characters. I also want to mention how much I enjoyed Stella's relationship with Madam Moonie and the other burlesque performers. There's such a found family dynamic with them and so much love for looking out for one another. It was probably my favorite element of the whole book. I'm always a sucker for found family! My only issue with this book was the villain or "bad guy" was very predictable for me. There were details that made it very obvious, for me, who it really was. If you know, then you know. Overall, beside that one little thing, this was really enjoyable. The steamy scenes were really fun and I will say that I'm eager for the rest of this series especially from the chemistry with Madam Moonie and Sargent Elo was juicy. I'm really hoping Madam Moonie gets her own story. This was just a fun time and I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

Wow what a beautiful book!

This story captivated me from the very beginning. The Galactic Gems is a traveling burlesque troupe and have set up at Solarium Hall to perform for two weeks. Madam Moonie, owner and vision-seer, introduces us to a world of glitz and glamour and we are swiftly swept away. I appreciated the backstory and world building that we were given while still staying “on track” with learning the characters and them getting to know each other.

It’s not often that I see brown women in monster romance, and this is my first time seeing a brown character headlining a series. Then I open the book and see that Stella is specifically brown, she has braids, she’s not a token, and it just makes my heart so happy but also makes me just crave MORE. Stella is the perfect example of what it looks like to include representation in a meaningful and respectful way. Her brown skin doesn’t change the storyline in any way, and the only time it’s even brought up is just to describe how beautiful she is. More of this please!

This book was everything that I’ve come to appreciate and expect from a Clio Evans book. I highly recommend for all monster-loving readers!

Tropes include: instalove, love triangle, polyamorous , tentacles, consensual degradation, virgin MMC, royalty romance

First let me just say that I ABSOLUTELY love the fact that our girl is a burlesque performer.

I think burlesque is such sensual and glamourous. I've been a fan of the art form since the first time I saw the video adaptation of Gypsy... BUT I digress...

Clio was NOT playing around with the introduction of this new series. Aliens and Burlesque. OMFG what a unique and exciting combination.

Our girl Stella is fun and feisty and up for a good time and willing to entertain the request of Friends turned Enemies Zin and Toros. Both want to claim our girl and are NOT shy about it.

This was fast paced and spicy AF. I think there are 25 chapters and there is an O in at least 20 of them if not more LOL

One of our guys is very skilled and the other is a virgin. Their history and compromise turns them from enemies to lovers and I was here for it.

Madam Moonie!!!!!! I adored her. If this were a movie, she would be the Meryl Streep or Cher of it. I want to know everything about her. I am soo excited for this series and plan on devouring each book.

I don’t think I could love this book more! It was hot AF and so adorable with the perfect amount of angst for some amazing enemies to lovers tension between the two rivals vying for Stella’s affection before realising they were so much better as a triad.

The “equipment” Toras and Zin were working with was absolutely amazing! 2🍆 and tentacles. Need I say more? But don’t forget to add in a little praise, degradation, and a breeding kink.

But this book wasn’t just scorching spice. The characters were all so adorable. Their first dates had me grinning like a fool.

I am totally in love with this series and I cannot wait for the next book! I can already tell this will become a comfort read.
