Day-to-day life has grown stale for Raven Coleman, who prefers to fly by the seat of her pants than follow any set plan. So when she unexpectedly inherits an outdoor recreation and tour business in a charming small town, it’s exactly the kind of shakeup she has been asking the universe for.
Instead of selling Mountaintop Adventures right away, Raven decides to step in as the boss for the summer to determine if it’s a position she’d like to hold long-term. Unfortunately, her presence is not well received by the staff, particularly Silas Reynolds, the hardheaded archery instructor.
Silas once had big dreams, but life got in the way. Now he’s making the most of his situation. That is until the bubbly Raven thwarts his plan to buy Mountaintop Adventures. She has no industry experience or interest in the great outdoors but insists she can run the business.
The two butt heads immediately, but attraction and rapport soon soften their exchanges. Can Silas and Raven keep professional lines and their opposing goals intact? Or is love a force too strong to ignore?
Very likeable contemporary with Raven, impulsive astrology-believing force of chaos, and Silas, who has reduced his horizons along with risks after a career ending accident. She's a free spirit but very stubborn (yay!) and he's got good reason to be grumpy but is always reasonable: a rare and precious feature. Low angst, good sexytimes, generally a very warm, human-positive sort of book, and one that admits small towns are in fact places you escape. A pleasure.
Quick one day read 🤓 Libby tells me I spent just shy of 4 1/2 hours from start to finish 🤗
3.5*
This didn't quite hit the highs of the previous two MimiGrace books in this series. It's maybe closer to the first book of hers for me but for diff reasons. Usually I love a steamy small town romance and the Mountaintop crew were adorbs as Raven got to know them and what they do...but I dunno this felt weirdly rushed in a way I didn't feel with the other books by this autoread author 🤔
I liked Raven & Silas individually, especially as they are both softer for MCs, yay for a non-Adonis MMC 🤜🤛 #bodypositivityforall Isaiah & Victor + twins were adorbs as were the limited townsfolks we met in Linda & as mentioned before the Mountaintop crew as they opened up to Raven's presence and warm welcoming way of going about life. The interactions with Raven & her mom + Gwen were also sweet and fun 🤩
I dunno the ending here just doesn't work for me it felt weirdly rushed and a little unfinished 🤷♀️
Am still invested in supporting this author and seeing whose story she shares with us next - there was a mention of returning to the matchmaker service from book2 which has me curious 🤭 & I'm still keeping my greedy grubby 🤞🤞🤞 for bff Nia from book1 of this series getting a spin off please *bats-eyelashes*
3.5 ⭐️ This was a book picked as our book club read this month.! I can say, I was here for Silas & Raven’s love story! I don’t like the way it ended, it was so abrupt.!
The storyline was very unique! I don’t know any African American that has ever been interested in Archery 🏹! To read about Silas going to the Olympics for archery & teaching it as an introductory class in the sticks 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾!
This was overall a really cute story, but all the time and effort spent in the beginning of the book should have been transferred to the back.!
5 FREAKING STARS! 🤩 As always Mimi Grace had me in a chokehold with this story!!!!
Raven and Silas start off as somewhat enemies, as they seem to be getting in each others way to reach their goals. But when I tell you that love blooms...it BLOOMS!!!
Raven is very free spirited and Silas is a little more reserved. But they truly bring out the best in each other. When Raven got to Silas's small town, those sparks flew! And I loved reading about them opening up to each other!
Mimi Grace is always able to make you care and love characters so much in such a short story.
Also the plus size rep / love was amazing. Silas was kissing all up on Raven's beautiful curves 😜 that part made me so giddy and happy! And of course the spicy scenes were freaking fantastic and Silas had me swooning like crazy.
As always, I can't wait to read more books by Mimi Grace. She is truly one of my favorite authors and this book was just as incredible and beautiful as the cover!! hehe 🤭
I loved this book so much!! It was a cute balance of small town romance, enemies to lovers, and close proximity. I thought Silas and Raven were so stinking cute. I just loved seeing their romance come to fruition because they were not friends in the beginning. I got a good laugh at how petty Silas was and when they finally crossed the line into intimacy, it was definitely worth the wait. 🥰
Raven and Silas were fun summer enemies to lovers! And honestly, the tension built between these two is one of my favorite moments in the book! We start with Raven working as a waitress for an upscale party and one wrong turn lands a guest in the fountain and she is fired from the job! Talk about a nightmare opening lol. We find out Raven is back living at home after breaking her lease thinking she could get something better. It was at this moment I realized Raven is a free spirit and go-with-the-flow kind of girl! I know this is going to clash with the hero lol! Without giving too much of the plot Raven inherits a property from her mom's past bf and sees this as an opportunity for herself to cash out as the property/business already has a buyer! Insert our hero Silas! Silas has been working at Mountaintop Adventures with the former owner Charles and was destined to take over the business if it wasn’t for Charles's untimely death. The first interaction between Silas and Raven is a mess because instead of selling the business Raven reneges and wants to run it. 😩 Baby this is where the two clash so badly and I got a good laugh because Raven is the free spirit, heels, and crystal-wearing, stubborn woman that wants to run a Mountaintop adventure business! Raven trying to win over the other staff and keep her sanity in not trying to jump on Silas was a journey, to say the least! Silas also had his issues from trying to still own the business and something from his past trying to take him in another direction. This book was a fun read and the ending I’m not going to lie but I wanted more! I wanted more than the $1 situation no lie! Lol, no spoilers but this was a fun way to wrap up the Lovestruck series! I loved the updates from Gwen and seeing her and Tony still going strong! Spice 🌶️ I’d give it a 3. Overall I give this book a 4⭐️!
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you so much to Mimi Grace for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
It's official. Take a Hike is my all-time favorite book by Mimi Grace! I went into this novel expecting a sweet & steamy romance with characters slowly giving into their growing feelings for each other, which is what I have been given from every single one of Mimi Grace's previous novels. Take a Hike, however, delivered all of that and so much more. I really enjoyed following our gentle giant Silas and bubbly fashionista Raven go from butting heads to reluctantly accepting one another to tearing each other's clothes off. Aside from all the moments where Silas and Raven feel like they're on fire from the palpable tension between them whenever they're standing in the same room, my favorite scene is probably the rescue mission that happens in Chapters 20-21. The payoff from their slowburn was so worth it!!
I think my favorite aspect of this novel is definitely the found family trope among Raven, Silas, Doc, Halo, and Bodie. Found family in any book makes the story ten times better and I found myself grinning so hard at the dynamic between this cast of characters. Bodie is definitely my favorite ❤️. Please look at this excerpt below--I would do anything for him 😭
“I’m going to put it out there that I wouldn’t have minded,” Bodie said, shrugging. “She’s nice. She called me the fire god Hepatitis, so.” “Bud, I think you mean Hephaestus,” Doc said. Bodie blinked. “Hm. Maybe.”
Anyway, definitely pre-order Take a Hike if you enjoyed any of Mimi Grace's previous works, or if you're looking for a steamy, outdoorsy opposites-attract romance!
yayyyy i was so happy to get an ARC of this because I've really loved all of Mimi's books! And I'm happy to say I've finally caught up and read all of them!!
Now first off let me gush about this cover?? Leni Kauffman strikes again with her perfect book covers. Just look at the gawjusness that is Silas and Raven on the cover.
I basically devoured this book and just wanted to keep learning what came next. From the moment Raven and Silas met I was having a good time because he was not about this person coming to seemingly take what was his. And the way these two have their back and forths then decide to be civil then helloooo we are kissiiiiiing. then lol we kissed let's just not talk about it to oop we kissed again.
It was really such a sweet, cute (and yeah there's steamy in there too friends ;) ) read! I also quite liked how we see them grow to realize certain things about themselves in the end there while falling in looooooove.
Anyhoo as you can see i loved it and i want moooore!!
Well this was definitely my least favorite out of the series. 🫣 I took way too long reading this. Enemies to lovers trope. Raven and Silas story started off so boring Omg. It didn’t pick up for me until about 50% I really wanted to DNF. Overall I did enjoy it eventually but ending definitely fell FLAT. Sighs
this a cute little small town, forced proximity romance.
raven finds out she was left an outdoor adventure company in a will and heads to the small town it’s in with the intent of selling it. when she comes face to face with silas, who thought he’d be getting the company, she decides to stay and see if she might want the company for herself.
this was really fun and cute. lots of banter, fun antics, and so many cute instances of her experiencing the downside of small town life and him taking care of her after.
it took me a little bit to get into because i felt bad for silas that he thought he was getting the company and had worked there for so long and raven was just like actuallyyyyy, f you, maybe i want it. and the ending was rushed. but it would make a really cute end of summer read!
i picked this up on a whim and when i tell you i could not put it down… such a cute story!! 🥹 an “enemies-to-lovers” PLUS a small town, *chef’s kiss*. silas and raven were soooo good together. chemistry was off the charts and the tension!!!! i loved it. only reason why it’s not five star is because i wanted MORE. i could read a whole additional book based on them, that’s how much i loved them.
mimi grace might be one of my new fav romance authors!! i struck gold with this. ❤️❤️❤️
This was my first book by this author, but it won't be my last! I fell in love with the cover (what a perfect representation of the grumpy/sunshine relationship between Raven and Silas) and the story very much lived up to my high expectations. Raven was a blast and it was a lot of fun to watch Silas fall in love with her even though he really didn't want to. I'll definitely be checking out more the author's other books!
This one just wasn’t my cup of tea. And that’s ok. I love Mimi Grace’s writing style and the other books in this series. I was just uninterested in this one. The plot didn’t hook me, I guess I just didn’t relate. But if you are an outdoorsy person you might like the storyline. There were definitely some funny moments and I did not want to DNF to give it a real chance. The storyline just wasn’t it for me.
Mimi Grace's books are pretty much an automatic buy for me at this point and Take A Hike was everything I've come to love from this author. Plus size characters, diverse characters, beautiful setting, clashing personalities (have I mentioned I'm a sucker for grumpy sunshine??), and personal growth. Checks all the boxes in a wonderful and engaging way!
- Opposiites attarcts - Work rivalry - Black romance
This was a really cute romance, I'm so glad I was finally able to read a book by Mimi Grace because this did not disappoint. This is a sweet (with steamy moments) book about Raven(f), a bubbly city girl who has inherited an outdoor recreation and tour business. She goes to the small town to run the job for some time and meets Silas(m). Silas is one of the instructors in the business who was disappointed that he was not able to run the business. They don't agree on anything and but heads at first, but as they get to know each other, they realize how attracted they are to each other.
The chemistry and romance between Silas and Raven was so good. They had good banter, and they were great side characters. I liked the small-town vibe, and I will be reading books 1 and 2 in this series after meeting other side characters because they found family vibes were so good.
Thank you to the author Mimi Grace for sending me this arc for review.
Mimi Grace is quickly becoming an author I turn to when I want something sweet and rom-com-ey without angst or heaviness. I mean an astrology girl ball of sunshine inheriting what’s supposed to be a grumpy pants McGee’s adventure business thanks to an outdated will that wasn’t ever fixed? It’s Hallmark in a book! The spice is excellent and honestly not much of a focus (if you’re wanting something lower on the spicy scale). The characters are lovable, flawed humans that are so easy to root for. And the comedic shenanigans are perfect in that comedy of errors way I love so much.
And while I found myself wishing it had maybe a bit more relationship development, it really was just a warm hug of a book and that’s exactly the mood I was in!
I was smiling reading this book. It was a good mix of contemporary and comedic moments. I love a heroine who sees the best in everything without reading as toxic positivity. Raven didn't get stuck and leaned into the universe gave me an opportunity, so let me take advantage of it. I think the most interesting thing is that she read like a free spirit but not flaky, and honestly, I haven't read this characterization before but I'm absolutely here for it. Silas was cautious, so you know what was going to happen in his grand gesture 🤭 I loved the side characters, even rodent Chestnut.
Can someone tell me if Cederlake was the same town from Along for the Ride?
Anywho, this was sweet and a good break from what I've been reading lately. Oh, I didn't expect Silas to be into dirty talk. Sir, behave.🥵
Thank you to the author for providing an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. Take a Hike is out on May 17.
CN: housing insecurity (rent increase), job firing, atv accident, injury, death of a friend,
If Mimi Grace has 100 fans, I'm one of them. If she has 1 fan, it's me. If she has no fans, I'm dead.
If I am honest, this is probably the weakest of her works thus far, but I still found it very enjoyable. I liked how realistic the romance between Silas and Raven was. I love a very girly heroine, and Raven definitely delivered! I kind of wished there was more happening outside of the main couple; for example, what happened to that guy Raven met at the concert? Missed opportunity for some more drama, if you ask me. Especially considering how short Mimi Grace's books are, this could have definitely being built up a bit more. This critique extends passed more drama-filled scenes to parts actually examining the main characters motivations. The decision Silas made at the end was so random and out of place, I wish it was better explained at different points in the book.
Potentially this could have scored a higher rating, but the fact that the ebook I was reading had some typos really affected my enjoyment.
Mimi Grace has done it again, this book was absolutely adorable!
Reading a book by Mimi Grace is always like a breath of fresh air because they make me feel so happy and giddy and Take A Hike was no different. Silas and Raven are the perfect rivals-to-lovers scenario.
Raven unexpectedly inherits an outdoor recreation business in a small town and decides to try her hand at being a business owner which infuriates Silas, who was sure he would be the one to inherit the business. These two finally come to a truce and then of course sparks start to fly.
“I was at mortal enemy level? I only have you at bane of my existence level.” 🥹🫶🏽 !!!
Every moment of this book was so much fun, I devoured it in 3 hours. We get banter, sweet moments, spice and quirky small town characters that you can’t help but love. This was the perfect third installment to this series and I can’t wait for the spin off!
Thank you to the author, Mimi Grace, for providing me with an ARC. ❤️
