As the analytical and methodical Beckett brother, Mason has spent a majority of his life inside of his head. From being a studious and quiet child, to becoming a polished and gentle man, Mason has always noticed the world around him. This helped him become an expert on how the human mind works and how it controls behaviors. It also allowed him to fine tune his own particular talent of changing and becoming personalities; a talent he would need as an undercover agent for their Special Ops team. The problem: He has spent so much time as these other people, understanding their thoughts and what drives them, that he has lost sight of who he really is.
Sophia Marx’s life has always been a push and pull of sorts. Her childhood was filled with love and devotion, but also with abuse and hatred. Breaking free, she escaped into hiding, but also found herself protected and safe for the first time in her life. With that safety came independence and happiness, but also darkness and confinement. Through it all, she focused on the light and the joy in her life from the people around her, instead of allowing bitterness and fear to control her. She’s now wanting more from life, to find her own path, to do things she’s never done before, and to find the one thing she’s never experienced before…romance or even love.
When Mason’s talents for undercover work and Sophia’s zest for life collide, they’re both drawn into a push and pull of their own. While it is just another mission for him, and she is hesitant but yearning for excitement and adventure, the two never could have predicted what fate already had planned. As they spend time together, he quickly realizes that Sophia isn’t what he expected her to be, and she helps him rediscover the man he really is. At the same time, Sophia is pushing boundaries and finding that through Mason, she can have the beautiful life she always dreamed of.
Holding them back could be the threat of discovery from many sides. Sophia has powerful connections that would eliminate any threat near her, while Mason has directives that he cannot risk being discovered. All the while, they’re both living with the true threat of an enemy that neither one of them realize the depths of which they share.
With time running out and enemies getting closer, it’s a race to find out what Sophia knows, if Mason can keep his cover, how to protect everyone they care about, and whether or not they will be allowed to have any kind of future together.
I was blessed enough to be given the opportunity to read Mason as a beta reader and it was a dazzling read. A brief synopsis without spoilers:
In the continuation of the previous Beckett Brother Books, 3rd born Mason is in the throngs of a crisis of identity after all the previous work he’s accomplished with his specialty for the team; undercover work. Is he really as terrible as the people he’s been forced to associate with undercover? Or have the people corrupted him in a way in which he may never recover from? In the midst of this conflict of self, he’s forced to return to his reconnaissance on a mission to bring in another informant against Gabriel. His team is just as apprehensive as him in this decision and agree to the task as long as Mason can be as much himself as possible. The story takes us out of Shaw Creek and into Chicago to identify a previously unknown family connection to Gabriel; half sister Sophia. There are literal fireworks at the missions start and Mason is tasked with getting the job done without hurting an innocent bystander along the way. As well as his own heart.
D Lynette does a wonderful job again making the reader fall for another Beckett Brother while also expanding this magnificent world out into Chicago and introducing us to a new barrage of characters for us to swoon over and enjoy.
Round three as an ARC/Beta reader and I was so happy to do so yet again!
Mason Beckett is an enigma. One that even he doesn’t know how to crack. He’s been a quiet presence amongst his brothers so far, but as he embarks on his next mission, he gets the chance to be truly uncovered by himself and the reader. And it is a sweet, beautiful discovery to watch this character come into his own and claim the life he wants. Enter the delightful and joyous Sophia Marx. She is a character that radiates innocence and joy and who draws the reader into her own journey of self-discovery as she battles barriers, both old and new, including one sexy new stranger who opens her world to all kinds of tasty possibilities!
Pitting the budding romance against the darkness of the growing threat of Gabriel Andino is an interesting and engaging tension that keeps the reader turning the page. Add in the darker element of a dangerous and protective mob family and this is a story that can keep you guessing and cheering for new characters to fall in love with! The stage is being set for the ultimate showdown between the Becketts and the threats to their family, and the whole cast of characters are gearing up for battle!

Oh this book…..I don’t know how she makes it better with each book she writes but D Lynnette is a brilliant writer who pulls her readers in with the most amazing characters that you fall in love with over and over again as a reader. I couldn’t stop thinking about the next time I would be able to pick up where I had left off and I was so sad when it was over. There wasn’t a slow point in this book, I loved every single word and was drawn in immediately. My emotions were all over the place, laughing, crying, gasping, shock….I felt all the feels and cannot wait til she wrecks me with Rhett’s book.
D. has this amazing ability to create this world that allows the readers to fall more and more in love with the characters. We all have our favorites, but what always amazes me is how much I look forward to hearing from each brother. Their POV is so nuanced and well written that it really does feel like a peek into their thought process and we understand what makes them tick.
I so enjoyed reading Mason and following his story. The intellectual of the group did not disappoint!!!
I’ve been a fan of D. Lynnette’s work for 20+ years, and she has an absolute gift for writing characters and relationships in a way that make you feel they’re your best friends and family… and some you wish could be carefully and thoroughly unalived.
I've had the pleasure of being a Beta Reader for this series and this most recent installment did NOT disappoint. From the very beginning I've struggled with picking a favorite and Mason wasn't on my radar in the first two books but he definitely made his presence known in this one. Mason is the epitome of a romantic and yet a tortured soul that you just can't help fall in love with ...and Sophia...I related so much to this character and watching the love story of Mason and Sophia was absolutely beautiful to witness as it unfolded on the page. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this book. If you are looking for the perfect amount of suspense, mystery and romance this is the book for you...after you read the first two in the series of course!
And those Peretti brothers...oh yes...you love them, you hate them...they make you laugh, cry...and probably swoon too
As much as I loved the Aiden and Jaxon books, this book with Mason and Sophia is more in-depth. The characters developed better. There were really sweet moments you could see Mason changing and being more himself, and the moments when Sophia experiences something new are funny and touching. Well done, D Lynnette.
Mason is the 3rd installment of the Shaw Creek series and Mason is the 3rd eldest Beckett Brother. D. Lynette has an amazing way with words that brings you right into the book with the characters you’re reading. The first 2 books we were easily able to slide into the mindsets of both Aiden and Jaxon. This 3rd book is no different. Get inside Mason’s head, explore his position on the team, and fall in love with Sophia right along with him. The way she is guiding us through the epic mission to take down Gabriel Andino while simultaneously bringing us into each brothers love story is amazing. Going back through Aiden and Jaxon you will see “Easter Eggs” that prep you for what you will find in Mason’s story. I can not recommend this series enough! Join the Shaw Creek community… you will NOT be disappointed.
Mason, the third book in the Shaw Creek Series, took us to a new location and many new and intriguing characters. With a different look into a dark underworld, the Chicago Mob, Mason has to both be himself and be able to infiltrate the life of key person in bringing down Gabriel Andino.
Sofia Marx is not what Mason expected - a breath of fresh air and excitement - her personality and joy for life is impossible to resist. She is just the kind of person to help Mason get out of his own head and see the beauty of the world around him.
As the downfall of Gabriel Andino creeps closer, and more groups out to end him, watching Mason outwit him is a high point of the book.
I love that this book series continues to expertly weaves romance, tension and family love seamlessly into great stories!! Can’t wait to see what happens next in Rhett’s book!!
This is the third installment for the Beckett Brothers and probably the one I was looking most forward to. I was not disappointed. This story, once again takes us out of Shaw Creek for a mission-the difference being that the story IS the mission. Mason is being sent on, hopefully, his last undercover mission. This book is much more romance than the previous ones in the series and I found myself swooning with every romantic gesture that Mason performs. D. Lynnette’s signature cinamatic writing comes into to play very well during this book and I definitely would recommend Mason, especially once you have finished reading Jaxon!
I knew where this was going from the start and I did not care one bit at all, still a beautiful journey to get there. How are these books so heartbreaking but also so cozy? How do I go from being so angry I want to kick someone's ass to also needing a blankey, warm drinks, and to live secretly in one of their attics?
I like Mason. Sorry, I misspoke. I love Mason. I also, before I read this book, thought I loved mustard. I would like to inform everyone that I only LIKE mustard, I do not love it - there is a difference, I have now realized.

It took me longer than normal to get through this one. I wanted to take my time and enjoy spending time with the Becketts and friends. This one revolved around Mason who has always come across quiet and reserved. Meeting Sophia brought out the "true" Mason and it was so nice seeing that. I enjoyed getting to know a lot of the other characters better too. Looking forward to the next installment.

This was such a great book! Mason is very romantic! There were times I had time to read and found I wouldn't because I didn't want the book to end because it was that great!
I just absolutely loved this book like all the others and can't wait to read book #4 from Rhett's perspective! Thank you to my favorite author, D Lynnette Fiction !
Awesome book! The author brings the story to live and you can see everything that happens in this book like it is right infront of you! There is suspense, romance, humor, and even a little horror in this book and all combined hands down one of the best I have read!
