Littles & Lace #5

Chance's Choice

Rate this book
Chance Baker has spent the last few years watching his friendship circle find their happily ever after relationships. He’s happy for them, but he has to admit that he’s starting to feel a bit lonely. At 38, he’s starting to think it might never happen for him. That is until a blast from the past comes hurtling back into his life at the most unexpected moment.

Meanwhile, Kaden McDonnell has a list of regrets a mile long, and his relationship with his former best friend is at the very top. Having spent the last two decades cursing himself for his youthful cowardice, he finds himself returning to his hometown and returning to Chance’s turf. But it’s a big city, so it’s not like he’s going to just bump into him on the street, right?

Right.

So, finding Chance at a kink-centric charity auction was not on Kade’s bingo card for the year, but he decides to take the opportunity fate has just dealt him and run with it.

They were best friends once, after all. And it turns out Chance is a Daddy where Kade is a Little! Maybe this will be a second chance for both of them…as long as Chance is okay with Kade’s other interests, too.

While this is a low-to-mild angst (no miscommunication!), sweet & cute, instant-attraction/second chance romance, this book does contain discussion of homophobia, parental pressure and manipulation, and symptoms of depression and anxiety. This book is an MM Age Play/Age Regression romance between consenting adults and also includes pet play/pup play. This book contains elements that are suitable for ages 18 and over.

Chance has watched most of his friends find their forever boys. While he's happy for them, he also feels envious. He's a Daddy with a dad bod and feels he's lacking in the looks department compared to his handsome friends. He has a bit of a complex about it, so when Charlie approaches him to be part of a kink-centric charity auction in which Boys and Littles bid on a Daddy, he doesn't want to be part of it. However, he decides to join since it's a good cause for the community and to his surprise, the man the wins him is his childhood best friend and crush from 20 years ago.

Kade returns to his hometown 20 years after being transferred back to his company's headquarters. He remembers how he betrayed his friend when he decided to work for Chance's father. He's lived with guilt and not letting anyone get close to him. He seeks punishments at kink clubs to help deal with his feelings. He's never let himself enjoy anything, not even fully indulging in his Little side.

This was a cute second-chance romance. These two men, who are now 38, reconnect, and so much hurt and emotions that have been unresolved for so long. I loved how sweet and forgiving Chance was. He understood the choices Kade made back then, even if they hurt him at the time. Despite losing touch, he forgave him a long time ago. However, Kade, on the other hand, carried his pain and allowed it to impact his personal life in so many ways. They both understand that they were teenagers at the time and things were not so black and white.

I liked how Kade was allowed to explore more of his Little and puppy side with Chance. He's so sweet making sure he feels secure and his needs met. I don't think I ever read a story in which someone was a puppy and a little, so that was interesting. I liked how there was no big miscommunication or break up, they laid everything out, talked about their feelings and next steps, and never kept any big things from one another too long.

As with other books in this series, I liked how the author has the characters discuss limits, consent, and safe words in depth. Chance was hesitant about the puppy play, and while Kade was interested, he took the time to research and understand what it entailed. Discussing aspects that work for them and what doesn't was nice to see.

Overall I enjoyed Chance's Choice! I can't wait for Josh's story next.

Is this a dream? If it is, clichéd as it sounds, I don’t want to wake up.

Awww. This was a sweet & kinky second chance romance. Super cuddly and warm, just like the others in the series.
Found family, old friends finding each other again, bath times, sexy times, play times.
I loved the mix of age play and puppy play, and the spice was pretty hottt.

“Chance… fuck… I could come from just this.” Fingers flexing at his slim hips, I groan at the thought. “Do it, baby. Come for me, and I’ll clean you up. Daddy will clean you up.”

Yes, yes. No further babble needed. Just more filthy quotes…

“I’m already a dirty boy, Daddy,” he says, then looks me in the eye, “make me dirtier. Come on me. Mark your territory.”

CW and tropes (spoilers):
- Age play (no ABDL)
- Puppy play
- Second chance
- First crush
- Spanking
- Discussions of homophobia
- Mentions of depression
- Strict top/bottom
- Dry humping
- Coming hands-free
- Frotting

Mostly cute and really easy second chance romance. Mature characters with great connection. I didn’t have any huge issue with this book only it’s so hard to finish it with me being in a slump. Kinda wish they had more detail in ageplay scenes

“I love you, Daddy,” he murmurs sleepily, snuggling deeper into my embrace. “I’m never letting you go again.”

This series always delivers what it promises: sweet, cute romance between two consenting adults with no miscommunications. I'm sure everyone needs this once in a while.

Reading this series taught me not to expect seeing too many kink scenes in action. Instead, it focuses more on the emotional development and bonding between the Mcs. However, this book was a tad different. I feel like we got to see more of the kink scenes in this book compared to the previous ones in the series.

As for Chance, I feel at a loss. At the beginning of the book, the author touches on his self-esteem, and I wondered how she would approach the matter later on. I love seeing a relationship of give and take, so I was delighted at the idea of a little caring in his own way for his daddy and helping him get past his insecurities. However, I feel like it was completely forgotten until the end of the book where Chance says something along the lines of him "maybe" being one of the hot Daddies now. I cannot help but feel let down by that.

Seeing the age-play kink and puppy-play one come together is a first for me. Like Chance, I was confused about how these two kinks can play together. Seeing them come and mingle together, being introduced to the many, many similarities between them -which the author did a great job of showing- was a new excitement. It gave me a new sight. So 4 solid stars for that.

"Both are about balancing playtime and discipline. Both involve moments of hyperactivity and desperate desire for affection. Both require treats and positive reinforcement. Both involve activities like bath time and cuddles. Both can include house training of sorts, if you’re into that sort of thing. Both-”
“You’ve run out of fingers,” I interrupt, my mind already reeling because she’s right. There are parallels. How did I not see that before?
Katie gives me the finger, then switches hands, speaking primly as though I never cut her off. “Both can involve non-verbal cues, especially if your little side is more infantile. Both involve cute dress-ups and accessories. Both rely on a dominant partner to set rules and help guide or train the submissive role. Both-”
This time, I hold my hand up to stop her. “Seriously, Kate,” I breathe, shaking my head. “Stop. I get it. Point made. I’m an idiot.

The good
+ Chance's need to Daddy and pamper someone
+ Kade's repentance and how he punished himself for his mistakes without using that as an excuse to beg for forgiveness. Don't get me wrong, his self-punishment was way out of proportion, but he didn't do it for show or to make sure others saw his remorse. He just did it because he honestly thought he did wrong
    + Kade in puppy space
+ Kade's love for getting messy, because Chance loves cleaning him up
+ Spencer. He's an awesome best friend and his need to take care of everyone is really sweet
+ Everyone's worry for Josh. They're a really tight group of friends
    + Their little roleplaying scene
+ Kade being a puppy around the other Littles
    + Chance's mom. What a badass

The neutral
o I was a beta reader for this book. My review is probably biased
o I've been not-so-patiently waiting for Josh's book since Asher showed up in book 1. The next book is finally about Josh and I can't wait!
o My eyes and brain sometimes mixed up Chance and Charlie while reading. (But well, I also kept calling this book Chance's Chance in my head...)

The bad
    - These guys were awful at communication. I know it was part of their characters, but I just really wanted to shake them sometimes
    - Both Chance and Kade made decisions that impacted the other one without consulting each other. Kade didn't tell Chance , and Chance didn't tell Kade . At least they made it even with both doing it to each other

Quotes
He shoots me one of his cheeky grins and reaches up with a dripping hand to pat my cheek patronizingly. "Good Daddy."

"Who's to say you can't be both a Pup and a Little? There aren't any rules here. You're not giving up one for the other. Hell, if you wanna be a baby pup, you can. Or a Little who barks. You get to decide what you're comfortable with."

I've never made it a secret that I don't like second chance romances, but I think this one worked out well. The whole friend group / found family is awesome, and I'm really glad Chance got the HEA he secretly wanted all along. Next up is Josh, and I can't wait! He deserves it so much after being there for everyone. Anyway, this was not my favorite of the series, but I'd definitely recommend it still. Just like the rest of the series.

I'm really loving this series. Last one I read I gave a 5 stars and this one is a 5 star read too. I love Kade and Chance. Best Friends to Lovers is always a good one to read. Their back story was bittersweet and their meet up was the same. All throughout I felt Kade's pain. I just wanted to gather him up and give him a big hug...so many feels with that one but Chance was wonderful in his forgiveness. Fate was wonderful in bringing these guys back together and both sharing the same kink...plus a bonus kink...NICE! I think the reason I love this series is that its no miscommunication no angsty crap that makes you wanna pull your hair out. Also the group of friends are a delight...love their interactions and all the love and support they give each other. Kade and Chance romance was great and I think others will feel the same. All of these can be standalone BUT the group of friends have their own romance and its great to get know them through their books.

4 stars…
I like all these boys. I’m not a huge puppy play person, I think I don’t love the nonverbal part for a lot of it but whatever. Love this little group… no pun intended.

I’m not usually one to read blurbs for the next book but I’m excited for Josh and I know his book isn’t out yet and omg the blurb was amazing… I can’t wait for it (hopefully it’s MM and not MMM) but I can’t wait.

2/5 on spice. 3/5 on kink. 1/5 on tears.

I felt the emotions of the characters along with them. I loved this book and can’t wait for Josh’s story.

Chance's Choice is the fifth book in the Littles & Lace series by Anna Sparrows. It's the story of Chance and Kaden. Childhood best friends who fell out at 18, 20 years ago.

I loved their story. It was sweet, sexy, full of feels and very well written.

Twenty years ago, Chance and Kaden were best friends until something happened and then they weren’t, not speaking or seeing each other since then. Kaden moved out of town, and has been fighting the guilt for what he did ever since, while Chance has regrets but has moved on.
Kaden is now back in town and attends a kink charity auction, only to find a night with Daddy Chance as one of the auction choices. Deciding to bid on him as an opportunity to apologize, Kaden’s bid is the winning one. Chance initially refuses, but is convinced by his friends and Kaden to give him a chance. The two talk it out, realize neither one is totally to blame, and decide to move on from here. Turns out Chance is a Daddy, really wanting a Little to complete his life, and Kaden is a Little, lonely and wishing for a Daddy. The attraction from twenty years ago is still there, and their kinks pretty well align, so they decide to give it a chance to see where things go. The relationship is not without its’ ups and downs, including family and work problems, but the love from years ago, which is just as strong now, is an incentive to work things out.
Both characters are strong and relatable, POV switches back and forth, characters from previous books in the series are in and out, good mix of emotional times, there is enthusiastic puppy play, and one kick-ass Momma to keep the readers interested and pulled along on the journey to HEA. Loved the story and all the characters, this is the fourth one I’ve read, and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Surprised me.
I was a little, if not a lot, disappointed with Matteo's Mettle; Ted's Temerity; Spencer's Satisfaction. I had high expectations for them and I didn't like it.
This book showed more than I expected from all the books, after I read the first one, which is what I liked the most so far.
Chance, was a character that didn't excite me or leave me in anticipation for his story, but he surprised me.
It was nice to read his and Kade's story. I loved that despite what happened, he moved on. Then he forgave and bonded with Kade, without holding back or trying to relive the past.
Kade, it was a sweet surprise, at first I thought he would be a pain in the ass, but he was perfect.
I just loved that in this book, the friends were friends and not a bunch of aggressive busybodies. They advised, helped and were close, respecting Chance's space and that's the way a true friendship should be and not what happened to Ted.
This was an easy read. Delicious. Even without action, the story developed in a pleasant way, exciting at times, fun, sensual. No curling, excessive and repetitive internal dialogues. The protagonists found each other again, decided to stay together and went on to develop their relationship from there. I hate books, where the characters spend 80% of the book fighting or separated and only get together in the last few chapters. Eternal hatred.
Kade and Chance had chemistry. The sex or sensual scenes were great. Hot.
I don't want to create too many expectations with Josh's book, but I can't. I've been waiting for his book since he appeared in the first few chapters of the first book. I'll cross my fingers that it's good. Please be good.

In Chance Baker's mind, it seems like everyone around him is finding their happily ever after, leaving him a bit lonely and doubting if he will ever find true love. However, everything changes when a former best friend and blast from the past, Kaden McDonnell, unexpectedly enters Chance's life again. In their youth, Kaden caused a rift between them, leaving Chance with a list of regrets himself. Despite their complicated past, the two men are drawn back together, and Chance discovers that Kaden is a Little, while he is a Daddy.

Anna Sparrows' novel is a sweet and intimate romance that highlights the complexities of life-long relationships and self-growth. The book sheds light on how childhood events and insecurities can affect individuals well into adulthood. The author skillfully crafted Chance and Kaden's characters to be relatable and genuine, drawing readers into their story.

What makes this book unique is its exploration of the BDSM lifestyle. The book is refreshingly sex-positive and sex-normative in its representation of Chance and Kaden's kink-centric relationship. It is enlightening to see a portrayal of BDSM that is both consensual and respectful, showing that the kink community is just like any other community, with people looking for love and happiness.

Ultimately Sparrows' book is engaging, heartwarming, and uplifting, showing that everyone deserves a second chance at love, even if it means stepping out of their comfort zone. This novel is recommended for anyone looking for a hopeful and steamy read.

Chance Baker is 38 and has spent the last few years watching his friendship circle find their happily-ever-after relationships. Yes, he's happy for them, but he’s starting to feel a bit lonely. At 38, he’s starting to think it might never happen for him. Then a blast from the past comes hurtling back into his life at the most unexpected moment. Kaden McDonnell has a list of regrets a mile long, and his relationship with his former best friend is at the top. Finding Chance at a kink-centric charity auction was not on Kade’s bingo card for the year, but he decides to take fate's opportunity and run with it. I enjoyed this story as there was a lot of depth to the story with all of the emotions involved either from the past, the present or even concerning their future. The family (whether real or virtual) was also involved in this emotional story. I loved the depth of love between the two men and their devotion to each other. Go Chance's Mum! (read the book and you will understand). Easy to read, feel and understand; This was an MM story with mature content and a BDSM-like DDLB dynamic,

This is a bit of an emotional read as Kade and Chance have a lot going on in their journey. It started in childhood where they created a solid friendship. This friendship was torn apart by certain events. Twenty years later they have a shocking reunion. Now they have to navigate through this reunion, express their feelings about the event then and now, and begin the healing. One thing they quickly discover is that they both still value their old friendship and seem to seamlessly slip into a new one - with the added benefit of exploring their new Daddy/Little dynamic, and eventually add some Pup play as well. A new event rocks their worlds, but together they manage to get through it, even though it doesn't get truly resolved until later on.
You could feel the genuine connection between Kade and Chance - even though there were a few times they should have communicated better. They were both unique, likeable men who deserved to find such a devoted love and get their heartwarming HEA.
There is plenty of steamy sexy times, a huge group of supportive friends, some comeuppance for a nasty man, and an overall enjoyable story.

I loved this book. What a wonderful addition to the Littles in Lace series. I’ve loved this series so far and Chance and Kade’s story has not made me sway from that.

I liked getting to immerse myself in this sweet, low angst book with even sweeter characters. Without the stress of a third act breakup, I was able to just bask in their happiness as they form their relationship again after being apart for years.

It was also really nice to have it so that the puppy play kink was new to Chance as well. Its very common for Daddies and Dom’s to know it all and the Boy’s and Sub’s to be the newbies but I think it was especially cool for this to be a thing that Chance had never tried either. It meant they trusted each other to be each other’s safe space which I think was lovely. A real slice of life book.

I'm never usually a second Chance person because I don't think they are usually deserved but i think it worked well here. Especially as their time apart meant they got to know themselves better so when they actually did start a relationship they were prepared.

Also GO MAMA DEB!

Another sweet age play read from Anna Sparrows. I adore this series. The stories are always sweet and hit just the right tone.

This was a second chance romance and had two of my absolute favorites: Littles and Pups. Kade was a really sweet Little. He trusted Daddy Chance to do right by him and he did. He was also a wonderful Pup. This was definitely a Pup-lite version of puppy play, so don’t go looking for anything too hardcore. If anyone deserved a second chance, it was these two.

I will say that Chance and Kade both had poor communication skills. And when you have a Little/Pup/Daddy situation, you should be talking all the time. I loved that Kade sought therapy for the punishment he’s been doling out to himself for years. I also loved Chance pointing out that their friendship break was the result of two teenagers being all angsty and not knowing how to resolve it. It was very, very true.

Overall, another great read in this series. I’m so excited to read Josh’s story next because he has been waiting a long time for his HEA.

The author states in their blurb that the book isn't really angsty. On that, I'm going to have to disagree. Kade was dismissive of his best friend, Chance, when he came out as gay. He also thinks he stole Chance's job out from under him. For the last 20 years, he's been punishing himself. He's a Little, but he won't allow himself the pleasure of giving in to his Little side.
He can't get over his guilt. That, my friend, is angst. With a capital A.
Chance has fared better. He doesn't have a Little of his own. But he has a group of found family, supportive and caring.
Kade and Chance meet again in this second chance angstfest. Their attraction is still there. And despite some villainy from Chance's dad, the two attempt to work out their relationship.
The Daddy/Little scenes were very good. But where the author shone was in the Daddy/Puppy relationship she created for the pair.
This is the first time I've read Anna Sparrows. And while this was not the quick read, Daddy lite I'm used to, I'd read this author again.

Another fabulous MM Daddy / Little book by Anna Sparrows. I love how all the characters in this series are unique, with different play styles / interests, it is far from the "same, same" you sometimes get in a series. I like how the Puppy Play was something that neither of them had prior experience with and Chance and Kade explored it together to see if it was right for them, and that it was in addition to, not instead of, his Little.

I really enjoyed the humour and one liners in the book, the reference to a Masterpiece of art that Charlie had displayed on his fridge had me cracking up, along with many other lines.

Toward the end of the book, we are introduced briefly to Chance's mum, all I can say about that is wow, just wow, you go girl!!

The sneak peak of Josh's Jackpot at the end has me impatiently waiting for this next book.

This was such a sweet read. I’m so glad we got Chance’s story. Kade was just who he needed. I love how the author handled Kade’s little and pup sides. It shows that a kink isn’t a set way and that each relationship has its own spin on what works for them. I love that. Such beauty in our uniqueness. Now those of you who have kept up with the series you’ll appreciate this one. Because when you see what’s coming up you’ll know why this milder one is so well placed. Those of you who haven’t been reading them all, first why not?!?, and secondly I HIGHLY recommend doing so. Because yes technically you could read them individually but then you wouldn’t get to see the amazing world the author has created. I follow and subscribe to the author’s newsletter because I’m so impressed with their skill. Luckily I was able to get one of the arc’s for this one because the wait was killing me. Go read them all. I can’t wait to see what you think.

This series has been hit or miss for me. My biggest issue with this author is their tendency to have most kink interactions off page. In this book, Chance and Kade have most of their little time off page. There's a scene at the kink club and the negations are off page. Share that on page!!! Those interactions would take this series from mediocre to 5 star.

As for this book, the first 30% was tedious to read. Kade's angst was over the top and I became tiresome of his internal dialogue. The stuff with Chance's dad felt over the top as well. The pacing of the book felt off after the 50% mark. I lost interest in their intimate scenes and skimmed until the end.

I honestly hope Josh's story has more on page. I read age play or kink because I want to experience it thru the characters. It's the entire reason I love dual POV. I don't want reminiscing and internal dialogue about something. Put it on the page.

I really like how varied this books are. Not sticking for the same little or Daddy stereotype but chosing to give a HEA to a Daddy you believe exists ❤️ and a little who has more than age play in his wish list.

Plit wise this felt faster but still made sense. It didn't feel rushed or forced, altho I wouldn't have minded more groveling first. Then there was something expected that became unexpected? Like a character does something you know it's gonna come back to bite them in the... so you know the bite is coming but then the resolution was not what I was expecting, it was quite good, definitely a nice surprise.

While not my favorite, I think this book is an excellent addition to the series and deserves a good 4 out of 5 stars.

Among other things I think the group of friends is becoming more of a healthy found family. Less annoying or overwhelming, more safe place, I love it.

Another sweet book to add to the series. These stories are always good, and they hit just right. This was a second-chance romance, and I've been waiting for these two since the last book.

This book follows Chance and Kaden, who were best friends many years ago but had a falling out, and Kaden took the chance to reach back out to him. Chance and Kaden are both looking for something that the other offers, and they match perfectly. The MC compliment each other in the best ways and help explore each other likes/dislikes. The only frustrating thing about this book was the lack of communication, and you would think they would learn from the first time.

Overall, it was a great addition to the series. Can't believe there is only one left!

OMG! Just finished reading Chances Choice and this series just keeps getting better. I loved it! It was so nice to learn more about Chance and Kaden was just adorable and so easy to fall in love with. The story was wonderfully written and I loved that both MCs got the second chance that they deserved. It was sweet, smexy with a beautiful love story. Congratulations Anna Sparrows, you just keep writing amazing books that I can’t put down. ❤️❤️❤️ If you haven’t read any of the series, do yourself a favour and grab Asher’s Answer and start this fantastic series from the beginning. Can’t wait for Josh’s HEA in the final book of the series.

Chance feels the least attractive of all his friends who are Daddies. Kade, his former high school best friend and a Little buys him at an auction and the guys who haven't talked in twenty years talk it out. They both realize they love each other as His Daddy/ His Little exploring their kinks. All the series guys are back and you can feel the caring and love in the group. The best part of the book was Chance's Mom, now that's a woman!. I enjoyed Chance and Kade as a couple and felt their love and need to be together in sexy times, Little and pup times and spanking times. Another winner in the Daddy/Little group! I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

I am not sure I have the best words on how to describe this book. I loved Chance and Kade together. These two were best friends for years but they had really bad falling out that costs them years together. Now that Kade has a chance to make it right, neither Chance or Kade is willing to let the other go without a fight. I loved the connection and chemistry between these two; I did want to smack them a couple of times but these two were just too cute together. I am really looking forward to the next been book!
