Audiobook

Blurb: Male-fantasy story, of a guy who is encouraged to have sex with multiple women, get magical superpowers, and unite the world in a war against the forces of darkness. Heavily steeped in the tropes and clichés of Anime, leading to many characters and scenes being distilled into stock-standard anime-archetypes. Has the trappings of a more 'edgy' teen focused anime, including: claims that the world is murder-or-be-murdered, has the hero only murder super-nazis or flesh-golems, has the hero get all angsty about whether his actions are moral (then gets a pep talk and ignores it).
Perhaps the most telling thing is that every single 'major' big-bad-evil-guy has a scene where the hero is at their mercy, and the villain gloats along the lines of "Don't worry, I won't kill you yet; I'll torture you until I get bored of it first!", before a harem member swoops in to save the day. 2-times per book (almost exactly) (spoilers I guess).

But the most standout part of the story, by far, is it's poor grasp of the English Language. The story tried to desperately fit in standard high-fantasy talking-styles/word-choice/common-phrases, but utterly fails in the execution.

Some paraphrased-but-as-close-to-word-for-word-as-I-can-remember examples include:

"She felt the effects of the potion coursing through her, as she waited for it to take effect"
"The Goblin King smiled wide, and ran his slick organ along his jagged orifice."
"Halt, adventurer, and from whence you came!"

(The author also seems to have done a find-and-replace command, to change every instance of the word "rest" with "respite", and half the instances of "kiss" with "embrace"; despite the fact that those words don't mean the same exact thing.)

The story genuinely feels like the author is someone who didn't take english classes in school, who watched a lot of anime, imagined a self-insert anime in their head, and desperately tried to type that out into novel-form. I appreciate the enthusiasm, but hate almost everything else.

I kind of feel bad about not writing a better, more thought-out review. But I also feel bad that I ended up sitting through all ~50hrs of this series (granted, I played it on 1.4x speed, and made liberal use of the skip-forward function).

Skip unless you're illiterate and anime-obsessed. (uh, right okay...ehem) Only watch if you think Anime Good and Big-Words Bad.

DROPPED…….This isn’t haremlit at all… I was 22 chapters or so in and it seems riika and Ella are getting more action with each other than with our beta male MC. I mean these women talk about how much they care for him and riika is insanely protective of him to the point it looks like a jealous lover but besides what she felt for the MC in her tent when they first met he’s like her brother that has a weird undefined relationship with. I mean hell, they don’t even sleep in the room with him. They kicked him to the curb so they could spend the night with each other. The MC has been annoying, I get it grand mystery who he is yadda yadda but there’s no excitement here… there is no pushing towards a relationship while furthering goals. The MC has these weird encounters with women and he doesn’t seem to know what to do but ogle, stare and let the women not only initiate intimacy but he doesn’t do anything. I mean bro, I can understand being inexperienced but every guy knows if it’s on a plate in front of us we’re going to do our damn well best to hit grand slams 😂… I mean, am I right? This guy just goes into another dimension the pleasure is so good that he doesn’t even interact with the females! My god man. It’s like he’s being molested during each encounter. Also what in the hell happened to the goblin girl? The spider woman was totally forgotten after raping the MC, YEA, that happened… same with the goblin… sighs, this was the first book I’ve attempted to read by this author so it’s time to move on. It just wasn’t for me. Maybe if it wasn’t being played at being a harem and instead of an adventurers group finding about their friends lost origins I guess I’d at least go in with my eyes open instead of what I’m feeling now. Onward lads.

An Enjoyably Dramatic Ride.

This is a solid story that brings a lot of character development, action, drama, and just the right amount of spice. The series starts off slow but grows into a lot of world-building, with several common and uncommon fantasy creatures, some of them with a twist (I've never seen a dwarf portrayed in such a way). Best of all, the ending was EXCELLENT. In my opinion, the only thing better than experiencing a great journey is having it end in a great manner.
