MacKay Clan #2

The Highlander's Fury

Rate this book
An average day in the life of an immortal fury: flex powers, locate evil, administer justice. Until Ciara’s goddess mothers convince her to seduce a brooding mortal and bear the man a gifted child. All she has to do is swap places with his betrothed. The task is simple−become the seductive wife, bear the man a child and train the young one in the Ways. Once the boy reaches seven years of age, they’ll swap her back with the wife he thinks he selected and Ciara can resume her job of rousting wickedness from the world.

Faolan MacKay’s advisors plague him daily about his matrimonial duties as laird, dragging prospects from across the Highlands: plump dowries attached to each one. Faolan’s lost everyone he’s ever loved. He’d rather go straight to the fiery pits of Hell than down the wedding aisle. Out of desperation, his plan takes seed. He’ll select a wife he can ignore. There’s just one problem with this foolproof theory. Nobody ignores Ciara. Against his better judgment, he’s enthralled with the woman and to Ciara’s surprise, this strange thing called love burns hotter than her hunger for vengeance.

At the end of the seven years the ruse is up, all will return to as it was. Can the bond of love overcome the mandate of the ultimate powers?

I was enthralled by Ciara and Faolan's tale of healing love between an avenging immortal and a hunky highlander who had turned his back on his mystical knowledge and gifts. I love a strong heroine and Ciara is just that. Too often, my enjoyment of a story is dampened by an author's awkward attempt to balance a heroine's strength with the vulnerabilities of the heart. Not so with The Highlander's Fury. Understandably arrogant in her abilities, it was a pleasure to witness Ciara's utterly believable reactions to the unexpected experience of mortal love and motherhood. Add to that, charming secondary characters, a well paced, intriguing story line, and spicy romance, and The Highlander's Fury is a thoroughly enjoyable read. Well done, Ms Greyson.

4 Stars!

A satisfying blend of saucy sensuality and heartrending sincerity.

Ciara starts out as an exceptionally strong fantasy heroine--bordering on overpowered. As a Fury, she's a kick-butt, time-traversing, mind-reading, embodiment of righteous indignation. After she's essentially given the effortless abilities of a demi-goddess, capable of manifesting anything she desires, I honestly worried that there wouldn't be enough conflict to sustain my concern for her. But fortunately, there were plenty of internal complexities to keep me engaged with the emotional and relational developments.

While the story is listed as a paranormal romance, it spent most of it's time with the rich feel of a romantic historical/fantasy. There was some needless repetition, and a slight overindulgence in the metaphor department at times. But overall, the pithy dialogue and smooth prose made it a genuine pleasure to read.

Yes. I gave my OWN book 5 stars. Of course I did. If I didn't like my book, I don't think anyone else would either. I've had readers ask me why I haven't rated my books - wanted to know what was wrong with them. I've also had readers inform me that I shouldn't rate my books - stating it isn't right. I'm not sure what the "correct" answer is. After all, nothing in life is black and white --there's gray areas in everything. So, please know when you see my five stars on my books, they're not posted to inflate my ratings or trick anyone. They're posted because I love all my "babies". I hope if you find them pleasant reads - that you'll love my babies too. If you discover you didn't connect to my stories, I'm sorry they weren't your cup of tea and I still wish you nothing but happy reading. :-)

Faolan is the mighty chieftan of the MacKay's. After his parents died, he declared that he would never love again nor would he use his mystical gifts. With the clan demanding that he marry, he chooses Dierdre, a girl who is a little touched in the head so he wouldn't be tempted to love her. His plan might have worked except the Furies had other plans for him. Enter Ciara, a sort of demi-god immortal fury who has spent centuries trying to right the wrongs done to man. With her heart hardened to humans and fate itself, Ciara is tasked by the Furies to travel back in time to take Dierdre's place in the marriage bed and bear a half immortal child who will hopefully save the human race.

This is a wonderful romance where both the hero and heroine are hard-hearted and have to teach each other how to live again. I loved Faolan's integrity and honor and Ciara's surprising adaptation to mortal life was inspiring. What a terrific book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ciara, Immortal Fury, lives to administer justice. When her goddess mothers inform her that they need a gifted child to swap places with Faolan MacKays wife (to be) long enough to get pregnant, bear, and train the child in the old ways, before going back to do what she has always done which is avenging all wickedness.

Laird Faolan MacKay's advisors are pushing him to wed, but Faolan is not interested. He has lost everyone he's ever loved and would rather go up in flames than get married. To stop his advisors, Faolan chooses a woman rumored to be meek and easy to ignore. The only problem is nobody, and I mean nobody can ignore Ciara.
Against his will, he's utterly enthralled with his new wife, and to Ciara's suprise, the mortal affliction called love burns hotter than her hunger for vengance.

But when it's time for Ciara to leave, can the bond of love save them? Or will it be the end?

Another fantastic book by Maeve Greyson. This was a wonderful story that had me from the get-go. It brought out a lot of emotions that ran the gambit as I was reading. Faolan has been through so much pain that he really deserved some happiness, and Ciara played her part perfectly. All in all, this is an incredible tale that will draw your attention in and not leave you until the end of the book.

Faolan MacKay has turned away from magic and love, vowing to never love anyone again the pain of their loss is too great. After his parents died he declared that he would never love again nor would he use his mystical gifts. His advisors keep harassing him to marry dragging prospects from across the Highlands. He settle on a Sinclair lass, one who is “touched” and totally innocent and would be the perfect wife for him. Ciara, on the other hand is an immortal whose been sent to seduce a brooding mortal and bear the man a gifted child and after seven years disappear from their lives. Therein lies the problem, Faolan doesn’t want to be seduced and have a wife, especially the seductress he envisions Ciara to be. Nobody ignores Ciara and against his better judgment, he’s becomes enthralled with the woman. This is a story is enchanting to see these two strong and powerful personalities interact with each other, we watch as their love blooms in this story filled with mystery and romance, but is it a love to last a lifetime? This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

This is officially the second book, but the third in chronological order. This book is Faolan's story. Faolan has vowed to not use magic and not to fall in love after losing his entire family. His father died in battle, his mother committed suicide rather than live without her soulmate husband, his one brother was cursed and trapped in a crystal ball, and his other brother disappeared on an ocean voyage. Faolan agrees to marry the neighbor clans daughter who is rumored to be mentally challenged. Meanwhile, the goddesses have other plans for Faolan. Ciara is an immortal fury who has spent eons wrecking vengeance on truly evil people. She tires of it and is becoming discouraged that she never seems to make a difference. The goddess tell her she must marry Faolan and bear him a child who will save their way of life and the old ways. Ciara takes the neighbors daughters place and marries Faolan. She then has to find a way to seduce Faolan. In the story we learn if Ciara and Faolan can find love and a happily ever after or not.
I liked this book better than the previous one. The entire book is set in the 15th century.

What would you give up for love? I enjoyed listening to this story as I found out what Ciara and Faolan were willing to do. Secrets make this a good read as these two learn about faith and love. The characters are strong, yet accepting of change. The narrator, Rebecca McKernan, made the story come alive and entertaining. I recommend the story.

I received a copy of this audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.

Immortals and Choices

Faolin, Laird of Clan McKay, makes the choice to marry Deidre Sinclair, the simple minded daughter of the Sinclair. But the Goddesses deal use to trade Deidre for the Immortal Fury, Costa for seven years so that the McKay lineage will continue strong. Maeve Greyson weaves a terrific story that will keep you up turning the pages.

What A Great Read!

Callan and Ciara story is so very good. I don’t like to give spoilers. But this is yet another great story in this series. Braking down the walls around one’s heart is hard but so rewarding. I hope we get a story about Keagon and one of Maxwell. Those would be 2 great stories.

The Highlander’s Fury

As an immortal Ciara changed places with Dierdra a simple minded mortal. Ciara married Faolan MacKay and had his child. When she had to go back, Faolan and his son upset the Goddesses to get her back.

I will admit, I have a soft spot for a romance set in the beautiful country of Scotland. There is just something about a Highlander that gets me. This book was no different.

Faolan is a Highlander who is determined to not marry. Turning down countless proposals, he comes up with a plan to marry a woman who would place no stake on his heart. That is, until he meets Ciara, who is determined only do her duty. They are pulled towards one another and both realize that love is just what they needed. This story is full of all the good things – romance, steamy love scenes, humor, a dreamy hero and a strong, feisty heroine and a beautiful setting.

Faolan is a character you fall in love with immediately. He’s been hurt and you realize that has played a huge part in how he lives his life and the choices he makes. He is relatable…after all, we have all been in a space similar at some point in our lives. It does help that he is unbelievably gorgeous and you just want to make all of his hurt go away.

Ciara, on the other hand, isn’t immediately likable. She is strong and tough. As an immortal who has a job to perform, she does it well and keeps emotion out of it. When she is asked to marry Faolan, she does so, determined to keep her heart and emotion out of it. That is, until she seems him and feels the pull there is between them. In the end, she becomes a character you root for.
Not only are the two main characters interesting, you have secondary characters who keep the story moving along, who provide support and humor.

Bottom line – this is a great book! I loved it and I look forward to reading more from Maeve Greyson.

This has been such a fun journey reading these books Maeve recovered. This book deals with Highlanders gifted with certain “Powers”as a well as those who were Immortals. Ciara being the Immortal was sent to replace Deidra Sinclair in marriage to Faolan MacKay to produce a son to unite the Sinclair and MacKay clans. Ciara understood that in a few years she would be pulled back and Deidra would in fact return as Faolan’s wife. She nor he expected to fall in deeply in love. Life sometimes is cruel. They were not prepared for Keagan to be blessed with powers from both parents. Both Keagan and his father's hearts are broken when Brin, Ciara’s mother, snatched her away and she becomes distraught and withdrawn. Keagan and Faolan must search for a way to bring Ciara back to them. How DO you fight the fierce power of an immortal? What power is need to even attempt this? It was an intriguing ending and a book and I highly recommend!!

Love highlander magic tales

4 stars because it was a wonderful book. I shed a tear. It was a classic historical romance that I needed. I needed something warm and familiar. Some have rated this lower because of it sounding like other romances, but Maeve Greyson did it with her own spin on it. Only lacking a star because; with all that magic they all could not become immortal???

excellent read

I cannot even begin to say how much I loved this book! Honestly, it has to be one of Maeve’s best! The love story between Ciara and Faolan is perfect. From when Ciara first met with Faolan trying to help him love to her own healing it had me hooked! In spots it had me laughing out loud and I couldn’t figure out how the plot would play out. This book will not disappoint, it will make you a Ms. Greyson fan, if you are not one already!!!!

Wonderful story of love

I loved Faolan. My heart hurt for him. Being alone is not how we were meant to be. Ciara brought him his missing half, along with children to love as well.

I would request that the use of then (time oriented) and/or than (degree of difference oriented) be used correctly in the future.
