I wont try to sound smart here I'll just say what I humbly think. To me this book is what would happen if V.S.Naipaul were writing modern fiction and was able to portray the graphic sex and violence that is part of life of many of the characters of this book. I think the characters are completely representative of young Trini's today, and this book fills a desperate need to tell their story. The characters are all interconnected which is a true reflection of social life in Trinidad and the Caribbean in general.

The plot of this book is not only pulse pounding from beginning to end... but reflects the lives of the spectrum of Trinidad society from the killers, "gangstas", dons, whores, dutiful wives, office managers, 9 to 5 wage earners, construction workers, nurses, wealthy businessmen/women, aspiring musicians, heirs to fortunes, expatriates and the list goes on. The supernatural element of the novel pays homage to the folk traditions in Trinidad. I would hate to spoil the plot for others by revealing details.

Put quite simply this is the best contemporary novel of the diaspora.... Yes it is really that good....
