How are people rating this 4 or 5 stars when it hasn't been written yet?! We've been waiting years for this one and it looks like it's still not in the works.
I looked forward to Jarmen's story alot. His character is quite tragic and complex. The idea of him finding love, and with an equally damaged character, Jane, was very compelling. But this story veered off track quickly.
The actual love affair between the male and female leads was brief. Then the "action" kicked in. It's a very unsatisfactory kind of action. I don't want to give everything away. But at the point where time literally must be rolled back for the leads to achieve happiness, you lost me.
What follows is a long procedural involving schemes, theft, unintended consequences, and bizarre high scifi time jumps. This takes up a good bit of the story. I had a very difficult time swallowing such enormous events in what turned out to be a short, average love story. The thought that someone would actually endanger so many others and perform a horrifically dangerous event that literally could change the universe simply wasn't believable. All of this action sucked up the story, leaving the "romance" to bookend the story. I found this very unsatisfying. Jarmen and Jane didn't get much of a story. What story they did get was mooshed into random pages. It was disappointing.
I do love the addition of the circus people to the series. Sadly, they are being used as sort of magical beings who can do impossible things. Magical characters in a non-magical story are lazy ways to advance a plot without showing a real solution. I found myself skipping a good bit, trying to get the romance in play. There wasn't much of it.
While the increase in complex themes makes the series more interesting, the lack of romance plus nonsensical action (like changing time) changes the tone of things. I don't plan to continue with the series.
I would probably give this 4.5 stars if possible because this is not an easy read. Really good, but not fun. Not bad or poorly done, more I think I should have taken notes to follow the multiverse twists and turns. But for sheer romance, loss, redemption and triumph, this is the book! I suspect it will be even better as a reread
Absolutely loved this one. Totally worth the wait. I can't wait to read the next one in this series. Well written sci-fi romance. The characters were so wonderful. I couldn't put it down. Another fabulous story.
I agree. I've been waiting for years for her to write this and others she promised. I've started to move on to other authors. Very frustrating to get updates like this about books that don't exist!
Jarmen’s Jane Doe (Lord of Kassis Book 6) S. E. Smith Jarmen D’Ju is a cyborg, part flesh and part android. He remembers little of his life before. He’s Janes suitor, captivated by her smile, wondering if he has the capacity for love? Jane Doe is a human who wakes up on a star ship, frightened, alone, rescued engulfed in a large noisy, circus family. Jon Paul & Luc are 2 Human French-Canadian males, who with 2 robots, IQ and Numbnuts, are also rescued by the same Circus. Jon Paul and Luc best friends. They, with Walter and Nema, Circus Owners, makeup Jane Doe’s family! Jarmen, unit 482, thinks of himself as a monster, but is he? Saved by Jazin Ja Kel Coradon, a Lord of Kassis, from a laboratory where monsters were made and programmed for killing, he’s done nothing but help others from that day forward. He’s not sure what he feels for Jane Doe, but he wants to explore these feelings. Jane Doe, a young human female, says she remembers little of who she is. She’s a survivor, thinks that a new name for a new world, is best for everyone. She jumps at her own shadow. The entire Circus family loves her, protects her, she’s so kind, just wants to be left in the dark. But Jane looks at Jarmen the way he looks at her, when neither is looking at the other. The story is complex taking part over time, having more twists, ups and downs. Jarmen has to do things no one else can accomplish, and history may be changed if it comes out wrong! This book has been coming for a very long time! Eagerly awaited by long time S. E. Smith fans, it was foretold about in several other books of the Lords of Kassis and the Alliance series, as it brings together both worlds in a huge story. But rather than spill the beans, I will defer and let you read them yourself, as they will enrich what you read here!
Good book but I didn't like enemies plotting again Jarmen & the Alliance. Jarmen D’ju has no memories of his previous life. They were stolen in the lab that changed him into a monster. Though he was rescued, he knows he will never truly have the life he wants. Being of half organic material & half cybernetic engineering, Jarmen will always need to hide. Finding a partner is not an option, for who could ever love a monster? But he does find someone, Jane Doe who awakens aboard an alien spaceship with haunting memories of her former life, a life filled with tragedy that almost killed her. Rescued & protected by her new circus family, she knows she has been given a second chance at life. In the most unlikely of places, Jarmen discovers he has a heart & Jane finds the only man in the galaxy who can take away her nightmares. However a single moment in time changes their lives forever & it forces Jarmen to make a decision that could change the history of the universe. With the help of some unusual friends, can Jarmen defy time? Or will a cheated death refuse to be denied? Since this book is written by S.E. Smith who always writes happy ending, he will get what he wants but the question is how. Read to find out.
4.5 stars. Such a heart rending story. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Ms Smith is absolutely brilliant at merging her different worlds. The intertwined interactions between characters from her different worlds and the surprising twist about Jarmen and who he was before, superb. But the pure emotional heart rending roller coaster this story took me on, oh my. The tissues came out at certain points. The romance between Jane and Jarmen goes onto a back burner for most of this story, but to compensate for the loss of their romance, we go on an adventure with our lovable and annoying Frenchmen and the crazy robots. This is where the clever interweaving is done by Ms Smith. But I think the whole premise of this story was to show that in the end, Jarmen was willing to and indeed did make the hard sacrifice, by deciding to save Jane at any cost, even it it meant Jane would never know or love him, and that he would never have her and her love in his life again. That is true love and heart sacrifice to me. I truly loved it, and I’m sorry it took me so long to be able to read it. I took away a half star as I just wanted a more romantic ending than what we were given. Will be getting the audible version too.
Ms Smith where has the humor gone from your stories? The last 2 books of the connected alien seried of Ms. Smith is missing something I had always looked forward to and that was genuine humor. Ms. Smith always wrote with a humor that had me laughing out loud. The series The Dragons of Valdier, The Serafins, the Curizans, and the Lords of Kassis are great books stuffed with action, heartbreak, abiding love, and HUMOR. Despite a bit of humor in " Jarmens Jane Doe," it was nowhere near what one has come to expect. The price of the books has gone up from my 2.99 to 6.99, and unless something changes, I am unwilling to consume that much on these books, and what a shame that is.
So glad to have a new Lords of Kassis book to read. I've missed this world and its wonderful characters. I found this to be a complex story of love and loss, evil doings and justice for the victims, as well as exploring the possibility of living alternative lives. Many of the characters from previous Kassis books show up to entertain and reminisce. I laughed, cried, scratched my head as I tried to follow the science, and then stayed up way too late reading. I highly recommend this book. Enjoy!
I have been looking forward to this Kassis Series and hope there will be a least one more. Jane and Jarmen’s tale was so unexpected and full of adventure. It was great to see the robots and the Frenchman as a major part of the team in this book as well as others. I liked the time travel elements that keep appearing as a theme in this series too. Fantastic HEA too!
It's wonderful to be back in this alien world. I loved this entire series and Jarmen's Jane Doe fills in lots of blanks. I loved how Jarmen evolved and fell deeply in love with Jane. The two robots, IQ and Num were so funny 😆! AND those two crazy French men really made the story. I didn't understand much of the time travel jargon but that's ok. This is a fun awesome read. Linda
Its a amazing book. But I really think you have to read at least the third brother Jazin's book to learn who Jarmen is. It's a great start to a second book or more. (I hope). The whole Kassis series is fantastic. The first book draws you in in the first few pages and you can't stop wanting more. It's all there, Love, Laughter, Life, Time travel, Aliens, Galactic battles, and much more. This book is a great addition to the story.
Like most of S. E. Smith's longtime followers, I have been waiting for Jarmen & Jane's story. There were so many emotions flowing, happiness, shock, sorrow, laughter, surprise, confusion, joy. So much as coming together. I think it might be time for a complete reread of Susan's books.
Star quality again from S E Smith. Have waited for this one and was not disappointed. Jarmen and Janes story is full of adventure, laughter and tears. Highly recommend this book.
I've waited years for this book to be written and it was all worth the time it took to write it. Jarmen and Jane story was awesome. A love story through time.
S.E. Smith has created such a complex and amazing world. This was a story I had been waiting for. She created the story I was hoping for. I am also happy Jarmen and Jane have found their HEA. I can't wait to see where she takes us next.
Curious about the timelines. Slightly confusing. Karmen learned that compassion is important. Family is everything. The search for his lost love helped Karmen discover himself. It was funny in spots and sad in others. Very good.
The beautiful love story is excellent but all the time travel and trying to understand the "family" of robots and two human men who are hellbent on never looking before they leap is painful.
This book was so amazing I even cried When Jane died I was so glad When they found a way To get Jane back I can't wait to keep reading in this series Thank you so much for all the joy and these books
I’m so glad Jarmen got a story and Jane found a happier fresh start. I enjoyed the parts of the story with other characters that were in the series. I hope there is another book in this series. Great writer
When she’s dead for half the book, this is not a romance. I was really feeling the beginning of the book with their mutual cuteness but as soon as she died and then stayed dead until the end, I was done.

This is a great story. Jarmen and Jane really do belong together. The trip Jarmen goes on is amazing. There is no way not to enjoy this tale of live and family.
This story interleaved between a few series and brings them together in the universe. It was entertaining and a little mind bending. I highly recommend it.
