I’ve spent my whole life running. I don’t know how to do anything else. I don’t know stability, I don’t know how to trust, I don’t know how to love. I’ve never been able to truly call somewhere home. Any time I’ve let my guard down, even just the tiniest bit, it’s ended up biting me and causing me to run…again. I’m so tired of running, and maybe, just maybe this little town in Colorado will be the place I can settle down. I know that’s just wishful thinking though. A happy life, a stable job, even a home is just not in the cards for me, and it’s pointless to even hope for it. But since the moment Max walked into the coffee shop with his son, the man has somehow managed to get his hooks in me. And the more I get to know the two of them, the harder it is to keep up the walls I’ve built to protect myself. I just know if I let Max in he’ll be my downfall, but I’m starting to think he might be worth it. Max : Ever since I discovered I had a son a year ago, he’s become my world. My sole focus has been on him and proving that I can be the father he deserves. I certainly don’t have time for a relationship. But the guy who works at the café intrigues me. Under that polite smile and customer service friendliness, there’s a storm brewing behind those brown eyes, and I'm desperate to know the real Aiden. As hard as I try, I can’t seem to get him out of my head. So when my son takes matters into his own hands and tries to set Aiden and I up, of course I can’t say no. But Aiden is hiding secrets on top of secrets, and his walls have walls so thick, I’m not sure if I can break them. Aiden makes me want to try though. All I want to do is give Aiden a safe place to land, if he’ll let me. And then something happens that changes everything, and I must make a decision. Fight for Aiden with everything I have or let him go. I’ve never been very good at letting things go, though, and Aiden’s worth risking it all for. Jacey is an M/M and Fantasy/Paranormal fiction writer. She's a Jersey girl through and through, and after a brief time in North Carolina, is back in New Jersey with her husband, two daughters, and her black lab mix. When she's not writing, Jacey is catching up on Netflix shows, reading, and most of all, playing with (aka chasing after) her kids.
Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below. Seventeen years of running from my abusive, psychopathic sperm donor didn’t break me. Countless bruises, broken bones, nights sleeping in shelters and behind dumpsters didn’t break me. […] But Max Campbell? Yeah, he was going to be what finally did me in.
I fell head over heels in love with Aiden, Max and Gray the first time I read the book, and after my reread, I still do. This book has hurt/comfort, a single dad *and* age gap, with a sprinkling of suspense; literally my favorite mix of tropes.
Aiden has had a very rough life so far and goes through quite a bit of trauma during the book, and there’s two things I want to highlight about this. 1) There’s no ‘magic d*ck’. Aiden isn’t suddenly cured of his trauma or issues because he ‘got some’, which would have undermined the seriousness of his trauma. 2) He went to therapy, and he kept going. This wasn’t an automatic fix either. I definitely commend the author for this.
I also appreciated that the older character (Maxwell) did a lot of the pursuing. I can’t really think of another age gap book where this happens (and I’ve read a lot of age gap books). The book really didn’t need extended bouts of insecurity about the age difference. What little there was felt just right. The characters just fit each other.
There was push and pull, but it made sense for Aiden and Max. It was a natural part of their journey, and even though that kind of plot line can lend itself to angst, there really was very little of it. External angst though? plenty. Definitely check the content warning below, if you want them.
This is definitely the kind of book I will read again.
[…] “If I disappear, please look for me, Max. I’m not going to leave you.” ___________________________________ Update!
I did read it again, and I still love it. Perfect for those who love some suspense with their romance.

Holy shit, after nearly a year of crushing so hard on someone who was so far out of my league, we weren’t even on the same planet, I finally got something, just a little crumb, into this man’s life: his name.
I didn’t even know how many times I’d seen Gray or one of my nieces face-plant in a way that would break every bone in my body, and they just bounced back up like nothing happened.
We made no plans for a repeat; we never did. Sometimes, I felt like a damn hamster in a wheel as we progressed with this friendship at a pace slower than molasses, but then, right before I was heading to bed later that night, Aiden sent me a text of a meme he’d thought I’d think was funny, and I knew this snail’s pace redo was worth it.
This was an absolutely fantastic book! This is the first book I’ve read by this author but I’ll definitely be checking out the others! I was sucked into this story from the first page and there wasn’t any time that I wasn’t interested and eager to continue reading to find out what happened. This is the story of how Aidan and Max find their HEA!
Aidan and his pops are on the run and Aidan has never developed close friendships with anyone. I loved seeing Aidan open up to Gray (Max’s son) first. It was incredibly cute! Gray played such an important role in their love story! Aidan goes through an incredibly tough journey in this book so please make sure to check out the trigger warnings.
Max is such an incredible character and he was the most supportive acquaintance, then friend, then lover. Whatever Aidan needed he got from Max. Max’s family were exactly what both Max and Aidan needed.
This author’s writing was so well done. The first chapter in this book is told from Aidan’s POV when he is four years old and I was blown away with how well the author wrote that chapter in a small child’s voice. It felt believable but still got all the points across.
This book definitely has heavy elements of suspense and is not strictly a romance. I really enjoyed that and thought there was a great balance between the two sides. This is a slow-burn romance but it does come. Make sure to download the bonus chapter for a sexy vacation scene that takes place chronologically between the last chapter and epilogue. This was a great first book in the series and I can’t wait to read Bronx’s story next!
The first 50% of the book was one thing and the second half was entirely different. Not to mention the resolution is anticlimactic, happens off page and is handled by characters from other books. This was enough to change my whole opinion of the book. It felt like such a disappointment and a weird choice.
This had so much potential but the case of the sexy cover strikes again. I loved many things in the first half and almost nothing in the second. This was maybe the most disjointed book I’ve read.
I will say that Max is wonderful in every way!! Just a dream of a man!! I did love his character. However, I never really bought into the romance. The almost complete lack of anything physical and we never really got a full taste of Max and Aiden together. So while I would say there was chemistry, I certainly wouldn’t categorize it as love. If you want something romantic and spicy, this isn’t it.
What a journey!!!! This was wow. All the feels were here which made the HEA so beautiful. This was a hurt/comfort story. I felt the pain, the joy, the fear, and most of all the love. I love that the kid did age appropriate things. This was about surviving and finding a family. This is a stand-alone BUT, there are surprise guest from previous books that you won’t understand that connection if you haven’t read those books. Loved the writing. This book kept me up all night. The few smexy scenes were hawt. The side character are amazing in how they rallied around this couple. Diversity everywhere which made my heart happy. This will be an author I insta read.
While it fell just shy of five stars for me, this was a great read!! I did almost cry a few times and the characters were lovably flawed. I could relate to so much of it because of my own experience but the author did a great job of making sure you knew exactly what past trauma was endured without making it too gritty. There is some of the miscommunication trope so watch for that if that isn't something you like. Also please check your trigger warnings! I would consider it slow burn but the spice was on point!
I loved these characters. Aidan has suffered through a traumatic past and it has colored his world. So much so that he lives in constant fear of being found and as as a result he absolutely can't let anyone get close to him because they could be hurt simply because they know him. Adorably sweet Grey and his dad Max have no clue about Aidan's past, they simply feel like he belongs with them. Max is simply determined to show Aidan he's worthy of love and I really enjoyed seeing how patient and caring he was with Aidan.
Aiden: has spent his whole life running. He doesn’t know how to do anything else. He doesn’t know stability, how to trust even how to love. He's never been able to truly call somewhere home. Any time he let his guard down, even just the tiniest bit, it ended up biting me and causing him to run again. Tired of running, maybe, just maybe this little town in Colorado will be the place he can settle down. Then something happens that changes everything, and Max must make a decision. Fight for Aiden with everything he has or let him go.
I loved this story. Aiden was such a tortured soul and Max and his son were his home (after his Pops) and so this had all of the feels as well as the danger and drama. I loved the cross-over to the RAM Securities series. It was easy to sense all of the thoughts and emotions of the characters so be prepared for tears. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
Very heavy emotions. HEA Hurt comfort Age gap Single dad and younger man on the run Mental illness -PTSD and anxiety No cheating. No emotional cheating. Duel first person point of view Low on steam. Slow burn for sure. 🌶️🌶️ 2/5 on heat.
We have Aiden who has lived his life on the run with his father Manny. They final seemed to settle in Colorado, and Aiden is doing all he can to stay afloat. Aiden is Manny's care giver now, Manny has cancer. Manny is Aiden's pops. Pop's protected Aiden and ran away with him because they were being abused by Aiden's real father. And Aiden's real father has been hunting the two of them down for 17 yrs. Aiden works at coffee shop and meets Max, an older man with a cute five year old son, Gray. Max and Gray love Aiden. Aiden is super cautious because he can't be caught again by his father, he barely made it out last time. There is a lot of push and pull with Aiden. This is a super slow burn. Aiden has to come to trust Max. But of course his past comes from him and Manny regardless... This is a very good, very emotionally charged book about healing and trust.
This is a new to me author and my first book by her. Aiden and his Pop's have been on the run for years from Aiden's biological father and have finally found a place in Colorado. Aiden works as a barista where he meets Max and his precocious son Grey. They are attracted to each other but Aiden is afraid to get involved as his Pop's now has cancer and Aiden doesn't feel he deserves to have anyone in his life if he has to run again. But somehow Max and Grey give Aiden hope. Beware of triggers as there are a lot of them as well as very descriptive torture. This book is not for the faint of heart but it does show the perseverance that Aiden has and I'm happy he gets his HEA. I highly recommend it and will go back and read her other books.
This is a beautiful story of a young barista and a single father who meet and become friends (thanks to Grey a precocious young boy) and then lovers. Aidan’s past meant that he and their father have been on the run since Aidan was 4
There’s a warning in this book and it’s there for a good reason.
I.. don't quite know how to type up this review, there are so many things I enjoyed while reading so.. I'll just mention those.
First and foremost the characters were very well written, they had good backstories that made sense and we're well thought out, all of the background characters needed to be in the story to help not only move the plot along but to also break up the heaviness of the book.
I do have to say that you should really read the trigger warnings, cause I feel as though this book may be triggering for some people to read. Because it's written so well, that also means it's very heavily detailed, meaning when Aiden's psychotic dad torture him and his pop's it's almost graphic because it's so well written.
Aiden is a young adult trying to figure how to live while constantly looking over his shoulder, he's also trying to take care of his pop's. His pop's has always taken care of Aiden, now it's his turn. He wants to have friends and get to know other people, but he can't. If he gets to complacent that will be when his 'dad' comes back.. He thought he could just avoid all relationships and connections with everyone but his pop's... Until..
Max and his adorable son Gray show up at the cafe Aiden works at and clips his world around. Max is a single dad who got the shock of his life when he found out he had a son. But with the help of his supportive family along with his best friend Bronx's help, he figured out how to build a relationship with his son. He thought it might be too soon for a relationship but when Gray plays Cupid for him, he realizes that there's something about Aiden that just draws him in.
Aiden's character said he was drawn to Max like a moth to a flame. The darkness inside Aiden was drawn to the lightness emanating from within Max. And I would have to say that the same could be said if the roles were reversed.
These two men fell for each other, even when Aiden was fighting against it. He didn't want Max or Gray to get hurt because of him. But sometimes you can't fight love, love prevails.
I was a emotional wreck while reading this book, I felt a kinship with the characters and my heart hurt while reading about everything Aiden and his pop's went through. And Jacey kept me on my toes cause I just knew something was going to happen and it did... :'(
But as much as it made me cry, I do think it was necessary to the storyline to have that happen. This book is so good, and I'll definitely be re-reading this in the future.
I highly recommend you to get your own copy, you won't regret it. Just... Make sure you have tissues nearby.
*I received an early copy of this book and this is my honest review.*
did not expect this book to take the turn that it did but I loved it. I didn't read this author's RAM Securities books but now I want to because I really liked the ones that made cameos in this book
Such an incredible emotional roller coaster. I loved it!
What a rollercoaster, I wasn’t sure what to expect as this is a new author for me but I just loved the book. It was heartbreaking but incredible at the same time. My heart was shattered and then slowly put back again. The story is long and we get Aiden and Max’s point of view. It has everything from friends to lovers, hurt/comfort, age gap, single father, abuse and family found. I can’t believe how thorough and thought through the book was and it had incredible characters, lots of chemistry, nosy family members. The descriptions had me inside every scene and I even had tissue to hand as some moments were just so painful.
Aiden is now 21 but he and his pop have been constantly on the run from his biological abusive dad since he was 4yrs old. They’ve finally settled in a new place for a year but are always vigilant. Aidan’s pops has cancer and is being treated for it. He works in a cafe and studies mainly online to be a social worker.
Max is a single dad to Gray and has an amazing loving family. They go to the cafe where Aiden works 3x a week and whilst they are both shy, the attraction there. Aiden has never dated or made real friends as they were constantly moving and had to stay low in case his dad found them and never stayed anywhere long enough. Aiden really wants to go on a date with Max but can he risk it or is he putting them in danger also by doing this?
Get yourself a copy and hang on for the ride. It’s so worth it and it is a definite HEA in the end. Now I will go to read two other books all about Aspen and Kai. Yay!
Aiden doesn’t have friends. How can he when he can’t tell them who he is or why he may have to leave one day? This is what happens to you when you live your life on the run.
Aiden and Pops have finally settled. They both have good jobs, Aiden is in school, but Pops is sick. Cancer. They can’t seem to get a break. Aiden meets Max and his son Grayson at work and they become friends. Before they can get too close, the devil, in the form of the abusive sperm donor, returns to wreak havoc on Pops and Aiden’s lives. Max knows something is wrong, he can feel it, but will he be able to save Aiden before it’s too late?
It is really hard for me to write a review with no spoilers. This book had me hooked so quickly. There was so much going on and I loved it! I hated having to put it down to do adult activities throughout the day. It has everything I really love in a story: a happy ending, well thought out characters, a suspenseful storyline, and obviously romance. If I had to find some words to describe to story, I would say I felt like I was being pulled between heartbreak and hope. Hope for Aiden to find happiness and love, for Pops oh for Pops, and Max as well. The evil side of me was hoping for revenge as well!! I feel like the trigger warnings need to be paid attention to, because it might be tough for some readers with a DV background to handle parts of the story. This is my first Jacey Davis book and color me intrigued. I love series reads and Max’s best friend Bronx will be the next book Running to You. I hope to be able to read that one as well. I want to see where Ms. Davis takes this series.

I am not really familiar with this author but their writing certainly packs a punch. This was an amazing book. I loved the story. It is very well written and easy to read. The characters are vividly described and grab you from the start of the book and don't let go until the ending. This is the story of Aiden and Max. Aiden is a young man who has spent his entire life on the run and hiding with his pops. His bio dad has found them a couple of times and they always have narrowly escaped. He is tired of running but his is being strong to help his pop through his latest medical challenge. While working as a barista he meets Max. Actually he meets Gray first. Max is a new father who just found out that he had a son. He is trying to figure out their relationship and build a safe home for Gray. Gray inserts brightness and light into all the portions of the story that involve him. Both Max and Aiden have chemistry together. That is why Aiden has to avoid him. No commitments is the only way him and pops will remain safe. The constant running is wearing down both pops and Aiden. Something has to give and it does. This is their story. There is high impact action that will shatter your heart. This is an emotional read. I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to more by this author.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Strength and Sweetness and the Chance to Fall in Love
‘Max gripped my chin, pulling my focus back to him. “We’ll continue this conversation later, baby.” And then, with one last small brush to my lips, Max walked away and out of Gray’s room, calling to his son like nothing even happened. I was left standing alone, surrounded by action figures and dinosaurs, no air in my lungs, my dick trying to burst free from my clothing, and an emotion I’d never felt for anyone, outside of a fatherly love for Pops, battering at my chest.’
Jacey Davis creates a romantic MM thriller with On The Run, the story of an abused and terrified father and son, fleeing for their very lives. After many years of being on the run, 21 year old Aiden finds himself emotionally drawn a a handsome man who brings his son into the bakery where Aiden works.
Juggling his feelings, and knowing he cannot share his past, and present, issues with Max is a tumultuous journey for both of them. Add in Aidan’s Pop’s medical concerns, and the angst is high.
Danger is lurking around every corner, and these men are entangled in turmoil, as true feelings of want and need blossom into love. A love that could be deadly.
Please head the trigger warnings, but understand that the Finding Home series, book 1, ends with a Happy Ever After!

Can love help Aiden stay when Max isn't willing to let him go? First in series (Finding Home). Age gap. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Slow burn. Dual POV. Aiden is a survivor, even though he’s only 21, he has been on the run for almost his entire life, never making friends or having relationships, it’s always been just him and Pops. Max is a single dad and much older than Aiden but that doesn’t stop the attraction between them and even though Aiden fears the connection, a friendship inevitably gives in to a heartfelt connection. Max is a helper, he is committed to being a friend and support for Aiden even if he doesn’t know why Aiden is so fearful, he admires and appreciates Aiden which turns into love. As Aiden leans into the comfort Max gives him they are able to share pieces of themselves and Aiden is so desperate to hold on to what he is building with Max. Both Aiden and Max are caring and thoughtful and giving so they are very sweet and swoony when together and Aiden’s circumstances are definitely heart wrenching. Luckily there are so many people willing to help, and Aiden and Max can finally allow themselves to be safe and happy together. A story that is gripping in it’s emotionality that had me tearfully waiting for their HEA. 4.5 rounded up
On the Run by author Jacey Davies is the first story in the Finding Home series. This story is told in three parts, and in dual POV. I loved the little details the author has provided in the making of this story. Like the play list, it helps get me into the mindset and I love it. There are trigger warnings and the author asks you to suspend belief. For me I take each story as its own world not like the world we live in. So insta love and things like I can believe as long as the story itself supports it. This one does by the way. Also, on the warnings do read that part, there are things a sensitive reader might need to know before reading this story. Aiden :his parents fought a lot. His Papa took him in when he fled an abusive Daddy. He now works at a café been there a little over a year. That is where he meets Max. Max discovered he has a son. He is kind and sweet. He is just what Aiden needs. I really loved how patient and kind he is. Overall, this is a great story. I loved these two together. I also loved this is a slow burn story. They took their time, and I loved this story. I cannot wait for more from this series in the future.
I struggled with the first half of this. I ended up stopping and reading something else before coming back to it. While I understood where Aiden was coming from, I wanted to smack him a few times. His first thought was to "run" almost every time. It was annoying after a while. While I knew why he didn't think he could be honest with Max, I still hated that it was hanging over mine, and his, head and Max never pushed it which annoyed me too lol. So, yes, the first half didn't do much for me.
The second half was better. Aiden pushed through his fears and then the action/climax kicked in. Though, I still never really understood why his sperm donor was the way he was. I never got a sense of it. It would have been nice to see some of their life before and his dealings/actions with others so we understood his behavior.
But once Aiden and Max get together, they are sweet and I love them as a couple. And Gray was the cutest though I thought he talked much older than his five to six years of age.
This one will take you on a rollercoaster ride! We know from the beginning that Aiden is hiding a tragic past, but for awhile, we get to enjoy the meet cute between him and Max - helped out by Max's adorable son. The chemistry between Aiden and Max is undeniable, and Aiden is determined to have something good in his life, despite his secrets. But the secrets come calling, and Max is thrown into a world he'd never thought he'd be part of, as he steps up to save Aiden, and hopefully give them all the happy ending they all deserve.
This is a worthy mostly-standalone at the moment, but we absolutely get to know a fantastic cast of friends and family, and you'll find yourself hoping that several of them are next to get their own story. We also get cameos from the characters of the RAM Securities series, and it is great to see those guys come in and kick ass, as well as offer their amazing support and friendship here. You can't miss this one, just be ready for some angst, followed by a great HEA.
A life on the run has made Aiden Sewell a young man that has many secrets and locks his heart and soul up tightly. The only person that really knows him is his pops, they've had a life of moving around trying to stay off the radar of his father by blood. It's been a decent life with just the two of them, until his father finds them and then the danger is immediate and deadly.
Finally feeling like they can settle down a little bit, Aiden is beginning to find that he has a heart that goes beyond his pops, but can he give it to someone? Can he give it to the man that comes in three times a week with his young son? Aiden wants to, but his past holds him back and when the danger finds him again, he hopes and prays that the conversation and clues he left for Max will save him.
I really liked this book, it was an emotional roller coaster of a read, but the characters are great and the story was full of action, sweet interactions, and hard scenes that left me raw. This was my first book by Jacey Davis, and I enjoyed it. I will watch for more from her in the future.
I generally don’t enjoy a slow burn, but this one had all of the emotional buildup to make it worthwhile. Aiden has had a difficult life to say the least. His pops ran from his father when Aiden was four. His father continue to hunt them for years. Max is a newly single father, raising a son that he didn’t know he had. The son adds so much to the story. He is absolutely adorable. Aiden is very resistant to any kind of permanent relationship or ties. Knowing that him, and his pops could have to run at any moment if his father finds them.
This book is a very emotional journey. Definitely read the trigger warnings on this one. The relationship development is well developed, and the conflict is intense but not between the two MCs. Excellent read!
On the Run is a great book, and it's a very emotional and sweet book at the same time. Aiden and his father have been on the run since he was four. Whenever they think they can live without fear, his father finds them. He is tired of running. Max and his son Gary can give him his happily ever after he faces his demon. Max is a single father, and he's attracted to Aiden, but he knows Aiden is keeping a secret from him. Aiden past catches up with them, and he will do anything to get back to Max and the life he wants. The book is sweet, romantic, funny, with a lot of angst, and action-packed, and once I started reading the book. I couldn't put it. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
