Very intriguing with a little bit of neocolonial imposition here and there, mixed with a strong flavour of admiration that I'm suspicious of (and view as a little bit patronising). Am about to dig a little further into Betty Wason, though, to sound her out, and see if she might be a good candidate for BNC. One thing I will say is that she makes absolutely no mention of Palamas' funeral, or Sikelianos' poetry, despite the central role that they played in resistance during 1942 in Athens (and around Greece). Is this perhaps because of snobbery towards Greek literature? Or did she just not do her job very well? Or, alternatively, was she reluctant to send off poetry that had been a particularly rousing example to communist and fellow-traveller EAM activists? Hm.
