The dynamic between the 5 heirs is struggling due to Leif's grief and I love how realistic the story line keeps that push and pull of him trying to find the balance between his new duties and his friends. In addition to balancing life as an new Alpha with his desire to go back to the way it was, Alara comes in and throws a wrench in the mix. The constant push and pull of attraction and disdain between the two is enough to keep the pages turning!.

I really thought this was a good and strong story, I loved the first book in the Royal Fae of Arathay series , but I think this got even better and I’m looking forward to the next even more now. Zara Dusk writes such entertaining anf addictive stories, her world building is fantastic and the characters so good, they show real development too, need I mention it’s a slow burn and enemies-to-lovers romance so this is my two favourite tropes combined, fantastic read

A Court Of Fur And Fangs is the second book in the Royal Fae of Arathay series. This book features
Leif Caro and Alara Everly.
The second book picks up where the first left off. Following the murder of Leif's mother, he has assumed the Alpha role over the pack. He is the Alpha of Alphas meaning he is the leader of all packs in the realm. He feels the loss of his mother, as well as those shifters who were murdered during a recent Shadow Walker attack, in addition to guilt and responsibility for what went down. While he used to be laid back and into having fun, his entire demeanor has changed.
Alara (aka Bumpkin) is conscripted into Leif's army. He doesn't only need to rebuild what has been lost, he needs to take action to assure the safety of every shifter. Pack members were sent across the realm requesting a "volunteer" from each family. While Alara should not have been eligible since she has yet to Ascend, her father is the only other member of her family and he is dying. She therefore volunteers, and says that she has Ascended.
Alara is not a typical wolf. She's not big into hierarchy. She questions everything. She doesn't hesitate to speak her mind. This doesn't change when Leif endeavours to have her submit and respect him as Alpha. The more he pushes, the more she resists. He finds it incredibly frustrating, and feels it reflects poorly on him.
Wolf shifters are very sexual creatures. They crave touch, and spend a great deal of time engaged in sexual activities. While Leif had always joined in on the pack's fun, since he has had to step into the Alpha role, his tastes have changed. He now has a playroom where he brings his "partners". Almost all pack members would immediately submit to his requests/orders, but not Alara. He refuses to take her without consent, but there are plenty of attempts to get her to change her mind.
Like the first book, this too was a fun enemies-to-lovers fantasy. We learned more about the Shadow Walkers, which looks to be the thread that will tie all the books in this series together. The author also introduced an assortment of other shifters and their leaders. I expected there to be more details, or references, to the other shifters, but perhaps that will come in future books.
I was surprised at how much spicy content was included in this book. I don't recall seeing any trigger warnings listed at the front of the book, but readers should note that there is definitely a BDSM component.
I love Alara's character and her reluctance to simply bow down. She's definitely spirited and sassy. Leif's change in character from the first book was understandable, but I hope he finds his way back to something a little more relaxed. I think he and Alara are a very interesting match. I enjoyed getting to know them and watch their relationship evolve.
I'm looking forward to the third book, A Court Of Verity And Lies, where Gabrelle, the heir of House Allura, the house of beauty, will take a trip to Fen to meet with Thorne Sanctus and hopefully get access to an ancient relic which might be the answer to all their prayers.

this definitely wasn't the book for me.. I'm into shifter fated mates romance enemies to lovers...but u can't even call this book real fated mates.. mates can sleep with the rest of there pack still..ew😬 even after bonding..like he tried to sleep with her best friend. to make her mad..mind u it didn't happen..but he had her best friend naked and in his sex dungeon. like he tries hard..admits in his head that he found her body hott wanted to fuck her one day...then after he realizes his dick won't get hard..he runs off in the woods in his words leaves the sexy shifter in the dungeon and his damaged girl in the bedroom alone..hours or a day later...both of them are lured to the same clearing in the woods realise there mates. & he says I don't think I can sleep with anyone else while being her mate ya..lie there throwing around the word love wich sounds dumb since he literally only used her for sex & is still attracted to other women...so during there mating celebration.. she hugs her best freind that almost slept with her man..just ew...then later his friend tries to seduce him..jokingly? to see how strong the mate bond is..and he's like not today thanks raincheck? ummm whaat? eww what did I just read...I read ALOT of shifter enemies to lovers books..this book seemed more of a erotica type book..everyone slept with everyone..mates were rare but after the jealous haze within a few weeks u could go back to fucking everyone in the pack...fated mates to me..means they can't even think of other women...so this book just wasn't for me..I definitely won't be reading the next one. the first few chapters in the beginning of the book he also sleeps with someone right infront of her..and she enjoys it.. I try to avoid books like this...cuz these are triggers for me. it's like cheating.. but when I read all the reviews I didn't find any that said anything like this..unless I missed one. this is my opinion only..other people may like this book..but it just wasn't for me...and I love my spicy books but I'm not into everyone sleeping around..that's not romance to me.

Perfect example of enemies to lovers :) The book pretty much leads off from where book one ended and we get to see Leif struggling having to juggle being an Alpha of his pack and also dealing with the grief of his mother's passing. He's being self-destructive while distancing himself from his friends causing them to worry about him until he meets Alara. Man oh man does he fall for her. Alara was the spark that Leif needed back in life 💗💗💗 I absolutely love how accepting all the other heir's are of her and how their love blossoms for one another.

This novel starts strong and develops well through the bulk of the book. The more I find out if this works and the more hints we see of players on the edge of the story the more I want to know. The style of wrapping up the leg of the story isn't my favorite but the need to know what happens next pulls me along !

A Court of Fur and Fangs is the second book in the Royal Fae of Arathay series and continues following Leif, the wolf shifter heir. In A Court of Greed and Excess, Leif loved to spend all his time with the other heirs and didn't take anything seriously. That all changed when his mom was killed and he was thrust into the role of Alpha of all Alphas. Book 2 picks up with Leif still grieving his mothers and pack mates deaths and how he is handling his new role as Alpha. Leif struggles with grief, guilt, and anger and becomes a serious, strict, and dark ruler.
In this book we meet Alara, a wolf shifter who doesn't believe in the den and pack hierarchy and feels like an outsider who doesn't belong with any pack. When the Alpha of all Alphas sends his army to gather one Ascended shifter from every family, with no exceptions; Alara lies and takes her ailing father's place. Will she be able to keep up the charade or will her beliefs and inability to conform to pack rules have her coming face to face with the new Alpha?
The continued world building, character development of previous and new characters, and storyline of the Royal Fae had me hooked! A Court of Fur and Fangs is a fast paced read that touches on some heavier topics. Please make sure to read the CW/TW before reading.

ARC Review!
After reading 'A Court of Greed and Excess' I loved the snippets of Leif's character and I could not wait for his book, and Dusk did not disappoint! Leif's character development throughout and how he deals with both his unresolved grief and the weight of his newfound responsibility is profound and had me invested in his journey. The introduction of Alara's character was a true delight and I loved her interactions with Leif. Her portrayal throughout was refreshing, as she defied stereotypes and was a strong, independent female MC. I loved how she didn't submit to Leif's dominance and stayed true to herself, rather than changing who she was to fit in more with the pack. Overall this is a fast-paced fantasy read with strong lead characters, incredible character development, shifters/fae, and spice, with strong themes of dealing with grief, responsibility, and expectations. Highly recommend it for fans of fun fantasy and broody MMCs, and if you loved Mulan then you're going to love Alara! :)

This story reminds me of Mulan. A darker and dungeony version of Mulan. But the premise is still there. It also reminds me of Game of Thrones with all the whitewalkers haha
But similarities aside, I like the whole inner turmoil and finding out who they are truly meant to be. The growth of each character is definitely interesting. I thought there would be more intrigue between the heirs but I was glad for the turnout. I also liked how they are able to get snippets of how to solve their problems but because this is a series, the story has to go on and it’s not an easy task to accomplish. Good book, overall!

A fast paced, spicy read with wolf shifters. What more could you want?! Make sure you check the content warnings and then dig into this book as it’s great.

An epic, captivating, action-packed adventure!
Once again, Zara has brought a super addicting book to a series I can’t stop reading. I love all of the characters and also really love how amazing Alara is at the full character arcs and development even for side characters. Each of them has gone on a journey. I did love the battle scenes in this and enjoy her writing style – a great mixture of summarizing and detailing the action. When this book picked up, it really picked up and I couldn’t put it down.
Once again, Zara has brought a super addicting book to a series I can’t stop reading. Leif and Alara
I loved Leif from book One and I was dying to read his book. I was not dissapointed, this book is very good, we get to see the serious part of the heir of Olura and all his dark sides. Alara is just the shifter he needed, to bring him down a notch but also to help him heal. Their quemistry is undeniable and the whole plot is getting better and more complex. Can't wait to read the beauty Queen's book.

This is the second book in this series. Enjoyed this, well written with a fast paced plot full of drama and twists. The world building is really good.
Love wolf shifter stories so this was a no brainer. Leif is coming to terms with being alpha and everything his role entails. Alara is a strong character, loved her strength and wit. Their interactions were fun to read.

I really enjoy this world and its magic system. It gives off Zodiac Academy vibes but with more spice!
I'm really love that each story features each one of the heirs. In this one, we get a more intimate look at Leif the wolf Shifter, who is thrown into the role of Alpha and struggles with his new position.
This is very spicy and well paced. I enjoy that there's one main plot throughout the series, but each one can still be read as a stand-alone.

A Court of Fur and Fangs Royal Fae of Arathay: Book 2 by Zara Dusk is a dynamic and robust world with an action filled, alluring storyline.
Amazing characters that challenge expectations and all the good tropes like, shifters / Fae, pack dynamics, grumpy, strong FML.
Definitely a fantastic read and highly recommend this book and this series.

A Court of Fur and Fangs, the second book of the Royal Fae of Arathay, picks up about a year or 2 after the events of A Court of Greed and Excess; following the heir, Leif, as he tries to navigate his new role as Alpha. Still buried in his anger and grief over losing his mother, the former Alpha, and a good portion of his pack to the Shadow Walkers, Leif distances himself from his friends in order to focus on protecting his pack: steeling himself and conscripting and training pack members for an army. But when a defiant, low-ranking wolf, Alara, joins the ranks and starts challenging Leif in ways he never expected, he finds himself changing the way he thinks and questioning if maybe he could balance his responsibilities as Alpha while still remaining his old self.
When I first started this book, it was quite a shock. The tone of this story is more intense and spicier than the first book, including some BDSM, which I guess should have been expected considering Leif is the Heir of Caro: the House of Sensuality/Sex. It took me a few chapters to adjust to the atmosphere of a different House, but once everything really starting to flow in my mind, I began to enjoy it more. Leif's character really intrigued me in the first book, so being able to get deeper inside of his mind and seeing his character develop throughout the story was incredible. I really liked the introduction of Alara. Her steadfastness was admirable and I think she was a great addition to the group. The chemistry between Leif and Alara is almost magnetic, with the constant push of pull of desire and aggravation from both sides. We get to know more about the Shadow Walkers and how they came to be, along with a few awesome battle scenes! One of the things that kind of bugs me is that we still don't really get much insight on the rest of Arathay. Each book tends to hyperfocus on a specific House, so we only get a feel for the dynamic of one at a time. Book 3 will be from Gabrelle's POV and it seems like we will get to step outside of the realm of Verda and into the realm of Fen, so I am excited to explore more of Arathay and see what kind of twists await us! Will their growing desire ignite something within Leif? Can they defeat the expanding army of Shadow Walkers? Is a bond forged in darkness & despair exactly what this realm needs?

Despised & mistrusted for liking her own company, as well as not putting up with idiocy from the likes of Ruben, Alara’s loyalty to her Pa puts her on a dangerous path. But this gives her a chance to show her true worth, not only to her pack but also herself. Zara gives us a heroine who forges her own path, strong in her mind & heart. How could anyone not fall in love with this?! I’m always going to cheer for FMCs like Alara.

After meeting Lief’s character in A Court of Greed & Excess I was excited to pick up the ARC to the second book! While shifter romances are definitely out of the scope of my typical reading habits, I did enjoy some aspects of this book, especially Leif’s dynamics with his love interest Alara and the other four heirs.
Alara was an excellent addition to the cast of characters, and it was interesting to read about her keeping up a ruse to protect her father. It raised the stakes of the novel and added another threat for the characters to deal with. Regardless, I did find her story and arc pretty enjoyable.
I found that many of the issues I had with the first book were largely improved, especially in regard to pacing and world-building. I appreciate how the world of Arathay was fleshed out more in this book, having gotten the chance to see other settings like Sylverclyff and interacting with heirs of other realms. A Court of Fur & Fangs is a good read for those looking for a quick, steamy book with hints of fantasy and romance. After the setup for the plot of Book 3, I’m looking forward to reading Gabrelle’s story!

After meeting Lief’s character in A Court of Greed & Excess I was excited to pick up the ARC to the second book! While shifter romances are definitely out of the scope of my typical reading habits, I did enjoy some aspects of this book, especially Leif’s dynamics with his love interest Alara and the other four heirs.
Alara was an excellent addition to the cast of characters, and it was interesting to read about her keeping up a ruse to protect her father. It raised the stakes of the novel and added another threat for the characters to deal with. Regardless, I did find her story and arc pretty enjoyable.
I found that many of the issues I had with the first book were largely improved, especially in regard to pacing and world-building. I appreciate how the world of Arathay was fleshed out more in this book, having gotten the chance to see other settings like Sylverclyff and interacting with heirs of other realms. This was a thoroughly good read. It was very much a page turner. It was a great world to be back in after the first book, and so interesting to have a completely new story, yet being part of the overall story.
This book was very much hotter and a totally different connection between the existing and new main characters than book one. Here it was a very much different emotional and sexual bond. BDSM being the main new ingredient.
It takes a while to acclimatize to the very different approach to the story, but as soon as you click with the fact of the different house and influences it all flows into place. The story moves at a great pace and has a fantastic climax that you do not see coming. The build up to the climax had me sweating and hoping that things would come good and sort themselves out. How it achieves this had me rereading the last seventy odd pages a couple of times to engage, enjoy even more and pull out everything I could.
Cant wait for the next book and to see how the book reads from the perspective of a different house.

This is the second book in the series and it was good. It continued the story from the heirs mostly focusing on the wolves. I really liked the character Alara she could be strong and independet not letting anybody boss her around. The twist of finding here mate was good but not that surprising. What I was missing is when she discovered how to defeat the shadow walkers, there was little written about how she told the other heirs about it. Just a short discussion of a plan at the end of the story. Because this is the main threat in the story I was expecting more about them. Hope I'll find more about it in the next book.

loved it !! love this series !! this starts right after book 1.. love Alara and Leif.. the Queen is dead... long live the King !!! Leif has changed so much... he has great responsibility now ... he must rebuild his army.. the kingdom requests an ascended wolf... Alara goes.. even through she has not ascended yet...her secret... sparks fly ... so good !!!.

Leif is now Alpha after his mother was killed by the shadow walkers. All he can feel is anger and the overwhelming desire to protect his people by killing the shadow walkers. He believes the way to do this is rule with an iron fist, conscript recruits to his army and distance himself from his friends.
Alara doesn't fit in with her pack, she has not yet ascended but it is not that, she just doens't seem to fit and spends her time reading as well as caring for her elderly father. When the Aplha's men arrive to conscript one ascended wolf from every family she knows she has to go in her father's place and put on an act.
It works, for a short time, when she is singled out by Leif for his special attention little do either of them realise what her stubborn nature, paired with his anger will produce. Alara forces Leif to think differently, she is stronger than she realises and has skills she was not aware of. Together it seems they could make a difference, if they can learn to like one another.
A strong story, this is the second book in the Royal Fae of Arathay series and Zara Dusk uses it to continue the excellent world building and character development. The slow burn enemies-to-lovers storyline is also excellent and I love the book almost more than the first. I can't wait to read Gabrelle's story next.

This was my first review of a book by this author.
I really enjoyed the storyline and eagerly await the follow up stories. I anxiously await to see if the alphas mate will also come into her powers or how she will impact the pack after she ascends.
I enjoyed the reevaluation of the alpha. We may not be perfect in every area of our lives but that does not mean we were not made for or destined/equipped for a particular role or position.

Loved this book from start to finish!! If you loved Leif from the 1st Book, just wait!!! Good girl troupe, multiple POV, spicy dungeon included, fae creatures, Shadow walkers, and grey sweatpants!! If you need an alpha that dominates, this book is for you! Love this addition to the series and can't wait to for more from Zara Dusk!!
