Always Remember: Ben's Story

Rate this book
Lady Jennifer Arden and Ben Ellis know that a match between them is out of the question. Yet their hearts yearn for the impossible.

Left unable to walk by a childhood illness, Lady Jennifer, sister of the Duke of Wilby, has grown up to make a happy place for herself in society. Outgoing and cheerful, she has many friends and enjoys the pleasures of high society—even if she cannot dance at balls or stroll in Hyde Park. She is blessed with a large, loving, and protective family. But she secretly dreams of marriage and children, and of walking—and dancing.

When Ben Ellis comes across Lady Jennifer as she struggles to walk with the aid of primitive crutches, he instantly understands her yearning. He is a fixer. It is often said of him that he never saw a practical problem he did not have to solve. He wants to help her discover independence and motion—driving a carriage, swimming, even walking a different way. But he must be careful. He is the bastard son of the late Earl of Stratton. Though he was raised with the earl’s family, he knows he does not really belong in the world of the ton.

Jennifer is shocked—and intrigued—by Ben’s ideas, and both families are alarmed by the growing friendship and perhaps more that they sense developing between the two. A duke’s sister certainly cannot marry the bastard son of an earl. Except sometimes, love can find a way.

ALWAYS REMEMBER (A Ravenswood Novel Book #3) by Mary Balogh is a beautiful heartwarming historical romance featuring Ben’s story. This is the third romance in the series and while I really enjoyed the first two, this one was special. This series consists of complete HEAs in each book, but I feel they are best read in order because there is a continuously evolving family story.

Ben Ellis and his daughter, Joy, have returned to Ravenswood for the summer fete and to decide what he will do about a very personal situation. Ben accidentally observes Lady Jennifer Arden, who he believed only moved about in her wheeled chair attempting to take a few steps on crutches. Ben always needs to fix problems and sets about finding better and easier ways for Lady Jennifer to have more independence of movement.

Lady Jennifer is shocked and yet intrigued by Ben’s ideas. The two soon have a growing friendship and discuss personal intimacies and fears they share with no one else. Both families are alarmed by the growing friendship even though Jennifer and Ben are adults because they cannot see a happy ending with a duke’s sister marrying the bastard son of an earl. Can friendship grow into a love that can overcome societal barriers?

I love Ben, Jennifer, and Joy! Ben was such a fine man and brother that all the Wares relied on and yet also unknowingly treated differently. He always felt incomplete because of his lack of maternal family knowledge. Jennifer was the coddled invalid who always had a smile on her face but longed for more. Ben helped free her from her self-imposed cage and made her dream again. Joy was always just a bundle of joy. Put the three of them together and it is a wonderful story of hope and romance. There is one sex scene close to the end which is romantic and not explicit. It is great to catch up with the rest of the Ware family and all the new relatives, children, and friends from the previous books, also. This romance pulled all my emotional heartstrings and is my favorite of this series to date.

I highly recommend this uplifting and emotional Regency historical romance!

Ben Ellis and Lady Jennifer Arden were raised in the same social circle, but both have always felt a little on the outside. Ben because he is still the illegitimate son of the late Earl of Stratton. Lady Jennifer is sister to a duke, with a large fortune, but a childhood illness crippled one of her legs leaving her mostly wheelchair bound.

Ben comes upon Jennifer trying to walk in crutches and while it’s awkward for a moment they end up confiding things they’d never say to anyone else. Ben would love to marry again, give his 3-year-old-daughter a mother and more siblings, but prospects are underwhelming. Not only that, but he’s also received a letter from his birth mother’s side of the family and isn’t sure what to do about it.

Jennifer dreams of getting around more independently and walking. Ben has practical ideas for her and makes it his mission to help her achieve them and Jennifer listens to his worries without judgement, giving a fresh perspective. I loved seeing Jennifer get a new lease on life with some changes and ingenuity! The relationship between Ben’s daughter and Jennifer was heartwarming! The little girl was adorable and some of the three-year-old moments cracked me up!

Ben and Jennifer’s romance was emotional and moving! Started as an unlikely friendship, having someone listen and get it, and turned into affection, attraction, and longing. However, their romance was not without obstacles with Ben being illegitimate and Jennifer a titled woman, and yet they couldn’t stay away from each other!

Oh, I just loved Always Remember! I yearned for Ben and Jennifer to find happiness after all they went through! The Ravenswood series is one of my favorites! While each book focuses on a different romantic couple there is a backstory and so the books should be read in order. A definite recommend!

Another wonderful and beautiful story in this series, Ben Ellis and Lady Jennifer Arden a match that should be out of the question but when they form a friendship that leads to more, will their hearts make it possible?

Lady Jennifer Arden is the sister of the Duke of Wilby and after a childhood illness leaves her unable to walk this does not deter her from being a beautiful and happy, caring and loving person, she is twenty five now and she yearns to walk, run, dance and fly and to fall in love, marry and have children, but that gets less likely each year, but then she arrives at Ravenswood and meets Ben Ellis and his beautiful daughter Joy, things just might change.

Ben Ellis is the illegitimate son of the late Earl of Stratton, although bought up with the Earl’s family and treated and loved as they are there will always be this stigma hanging over him, he is widowed with a three year old daughter he lives at Penallen and he dearly wants to remarry, but falling for a Duke’s daughter was not in the plan, but he cannot deny his heart.

A beautiful, heartwarming story, that had me cheering them on and shedding lots of happy tears, Ben and Jenny have a lot to overcome to get to their gorgeous HEA, it is a moving and emotional story with a cast of fabulous characters that add to the story this is one that I highly recommend, I truly loved it.

My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for mu digital copy to read and review.

3.5 to 4 stars. Quite a nice, though not riveting book. Ben is illegitimate, and totally not an appropriate suitor for Jennifer, who is a daughter and sister of dukes. But they fall in love anyway, and eventually reach their HEA.

Jennifer had a childhood illness (polio?) that has left her with a twisted, shortened leg, and she finds walking almost impossible. Ben is a very practical, can-do person, and it's nice to see how his interest in Jennifer helps her to open up the possibilities of her world. Jennifer's life is changed for the better, even if she and Ben hadn't fallen in love.

I enjoyed the read, although the romance between Ben and Jennifer was perhaps a little flat. I didn't feel their love for each other as much as I have in some of Balogh's other books. Still, an interesting read with a different plot from the usual HR fare. Main characters with integrity, which is my preferred kind of book. Not quite as enjoyable for me as the previous book in this series, Remember Me, but still worth the read.

T.I.M.E. BOOK REVIEW:
A Heart Warming Tale That Defies The Odds...
Regency Romance novels have captured the hearts of readers worldwide because of the colorful characters, bubbling plot lines, and of course at the top of the list... The wonderful world of love set in the highly romantic time and setting via regency romances.

The timeless classics of the regency romance genre inspire page-turning, heartwarming historical romance stories that never seem to lose their enchanting touch. One such novel is Always Remember by Mary Balogh, the third book in the A Ravenswood Novel Series.

Are you looking for something to read that will wrap you in a warm, cozy embrace? If so, dive into the enchanting Regency Era world that our beloved author, Mary Balogh, has created.

Here’s my T.I.M.E. Best Book Review of Always Remember to help you decide whether this book is your right answer to “what book should I read next?”...

Plot Points
Always Remember tells the story of the Duke of Wilby’s sister, Lady Jennifer Arden. She has an outgoing and cheerful personality but is unable to walk without the aid of primitive crutches... And her life exists within challenging physical boundaries and the additional over-protective nature of her family.

Her fellow protagonist is Ben Ellis, the illegitimate brother and best friend of the Earl of Stratton (now head of the Ware Family which provides the interconnected romance continuum)... And though Ben has always been embraced by the Ware Family, his illegitimacy can still be a challenge to overcome mentally at times for Ben and others as well.

When Ben meets Lady Jennifer, he recognizes that she yearns for independence and motion. Despite the social stigmas and even the family concerns that come with it, the two begin to foster a deep connection.

Standout Features of Always Remember
• Extraordinary Depth of Characters
Mary Balogh has done an excellent job of exploring the depth of her characters in this novel and regency romance series. I find this is one of the elements I love most about Mary Balogh's books overall. The level of detail is extraordinary, expansive and does not shy away from melding modern issues within the historical context.

The aspects of the characters’ natures that she revealed in the first two books of the series only make them more intriguing in Always Remember. This factor supports my suggestion to begin any of her series' with Books 1 and continue forward... Or if you drop in with a later book, make it a point to circle back to read the ones you missed.

Lady Jennifer’s and Ben Ellis’ interactions are also unpredictable. You never know what witty comeback or romantic moment to expect next. Their story is a delightful tapestry of friendship, true love, and hope.

And I love reading love stories inclusive to all types of people and couples... Thank you, Mary Balogh, for continuing to use historical genres to enlighten our understanding of circumstances we still have much to learn about even today. By transporting us to another time and place, we often find the open door to "drop our guard" and gain an insight beyond the walls of our mind... Whether we realize we have even built those walls or not.

• Extraordinary Writing Style
Another characteristic that makes this regency romance novel enjoyable is Balogh’s writing style. Her style is super-detailed yet clean, precise, and tied perfectly to the time period. The emotions of the characters are displayed through their verbal expressions and body language.

Furthermore, the description of the English countryside setting is so vivid that you will feel as if you are experiencing a day in the life of Regency England.

• Extraordinary Overall Series
One of the great things about Always Remember is that even if you have not read the other regency romance novels in the A Ravenswood Novel Series, you can enjoy this one book as a standalone. However, having read the previous books enhances the nuances of the story and gives you a deeper understanding of the characters.

Similar to Jane Austen, Balogh does not take shortcuts in creating her characters or their relationships. It gives the novel its charm and uniqueness. So, choose your preference... But, make sure to not miss a single book, whether you choose to read in order or not!

EPILOGUE
Always Remember is a regency romance novel that is impossible to put down. Mary Balogh weaves in topics such as social class, morality, and acceptance to produce a love story that is engrossing and inspiring.

The book’s central theme of hope will brighten your day. The characters and story convey Balogh’s conviction that even in the darkest moments, life can bloom to reveal a better tomorrow.

Perfect for anyone in search of classic regency romance novels with fascinating characters, extraordinary writing, and a charming narrative filled with insightful treasures!... ✨😎✨

♡ T.I.M.E. TIP: Although it is a cumulative series, you can read this regency romance book series as standalone books since they are interconnected romance books… Meaning each book focuses on a different couple from the same "world" of the Ware family and Ravenswood Hall... But interconnected romance is still a cumulative series... As for me, I started with Book 1 and am always glad to get in on the ground floor of world-building to fully embrace the interconnected romance bonus element... ✨😎✨

i really wish there were some more… generous anachronism here 💀

not only was this riddled with too many characters with so little to say or do, not only was this boring, but the ableism was painful. i could tell the author was trying to be inclusive but i always cringe when there’s a “person can’t walk but actually we can cure their disability” plot line.

and there’s also a plus sized character with poor self esteem. plz no.

this author is a fave for a lot of my friends so i was excited for this one, it just was not for me.

While reading the previous two books in this series I became convinced Ben was the bedrock of the Ware family, the one silently supporting the rickety framework of their lives. It was very satisfying to see his family rally around him at the end, supporting him for a change. And when Ben found out his father had not lied to him after all…well, I blubbered a little. Ben was wanted. Ben was loved. Suddenly the previous Earl of Stratton was a little less repugnant. Not much, but a little.

I wouldn’t hand Ben over to just any old girl. Jenny was extraordinary, luminous, courageous, and determined, and deserved Ben as much as he deserved her. And Joy was delightful. The story was emotionally complicated in a hundred different directions, and all the threads were woven together so masterfully that it took my breath away. This book was everything I hoped it would be, plus more.

(The “more” being those interminable lists of every family member attending every family event that Mary Balogh loves to do, and which I tolerate because the rest of it is just so good.)

Remember Love introduced a shocking, heartbreaking situation that nearly destroyed the Ware family and then tells the story of them picking up the pieces and putting themselves back together as they find love. Remember Me continues with the Wares and introduces the Arden family into the mix for that romance. Now, Always Remember continues with that theme, but adds a few complications to make the romance less than easy. For, this pair is nearly as unequal and surprising as it gets for that time and place- an illegitimate brother to the Wares and a duke’s daughter with a physical challenge.

Always Remember, the third of the Ravenswood Regency era historical romances, is a romance set against the ongoing story of the Ware family so works best read in order.

Ben Ellis was reared with the legitimate family of his father and was allowed to call the generous hearted countess as mother and his half-siblings, his brothers and sisters. But, for all that, he has always been conscious of the difference and how society at large views him. He was well provided for and owns his own smaller estate, but now, he’s ready to move on from grieving his deceased wife and find a woman who will mother his little girl and partner him. Now, there is the mysterious letter from a man claiming to be his mother’s legitimate son with a shocking story to fill in the blank page that was his mother’s history. Is the man’s story true? And, if so, why is he contacting Ben? Lady Jennifer is the surprising person he turns to with his inner turmoil and she is also the woman who dominates his thoughts. Why is he the only one to see her needs and wants behind that cheerful smile she shows the world? Why must he feel the attraction to a woman far above him in birth and status? It can never be.

Lady Jennifer has been unable to walk since a childhood illness wrecked havoc on her body so that her leg twisted and stopped growing. She nearly died and her loving family had to carefully care for her to bring her back to health. Now, as a woman of twenty-five, she is growing impatient with loving coddling and wants to show her independence. Ben is the first person to take her dreams and make them a reality with his practical solutions and clear-eyed view of her. He strives to hide behind the façade of ‘normal’ and yet he’s extraordinary. He sees her as capable, but can he see her as an attractive woman, too? How could it ever work out if they were to act on their attraction?

I loved Ben and Jennifer and I liked how the author brought them slowly along from friendship to romance pair. The mystery element of Ben’s situation with a would-be brother and maternal side of the family also had me intrigued. But, sigh… I was not utterly captivated. In fact, I set the book down a few times to read or listen to others because I would get bored waiting for the pace to pick up. Part of the reason is because the Ware and Arden family country house party gathering would push in and take over so the plot would stall out for a bit. I love them all, but was more interested in Ben and Jennifer’s romance and the situation with his brother. It does get there, but doddles along the way.

Side note, I loved seeing a crossover figure from the Westcott series in Bertrand Lamarr. Dare I hope for a certain romance to be blossoming for him and a certain young lady Ware?

So, I loved the story, but found it had lag spots. Ben and Jennifer were fabulous and I’m reveling in their swoony romance. For those who enjoy an old-style historical romance with careful attention to character and romance development, I recommend this book/series (and any of the authors books, really).

I rec'd an eARC via NetGalley to read in exchange for an honest review.

“Sometimes what seems impossible reveals itself as the only real possibility.”

This might be one of the most boring Balogh books I've ever read. It's a shame because the main characters were interesting, and their evolving relationship was great. Or ... it could have been.

Unfortunately, their love story and scenes together got completely lost among tons of side characters, their own stories and all the family connections. I actually had to read the first chapter twice because Balogh dropped so many names and infos, and I was still confused and couldn't quite follow, let alone remember it all. And every single family member had their own POV, even the three-year-old, so the very same things were repeated over and over again by different people. I also don't need to know where everyone in this huge family is at all times or who talks to whom, or if the baby cut two teeth overnight, or what happens on the surrounding farms. It's just boring. B-O-R-I-N-G!!! Show me the heroes instead! Together.

Updated review

I have been looking forward to this book. I do not know why exactly because I haven't particularly loved the other books in this series. Nor have I loved the last several books. I want to love them. I want to love them all. Alas, it hasn't happened. However, I keep coming back.

I keep running into the same issues. But I am getting ahead of myself. I decided to do an audiobook. I think that was a mistake. I have a sort of love/hate thing with the narrator. She's done a ton (most?) of Balogh books. But for me, there's something missing. Don't get me wrong, she's a decent narrator. However, I find her to be too...stiff(?) or is it too...proper(?). I do not know how else to describe it. I think it needed another narrator.

I found myself nodding off repeatedly. (Think due to a combination of the narrator and story-just not keeping my interest.) I really liked the idea of a non-ton, kind of average Hero (Ben) and non- ravishingly beautiful Heroine (Jennifer). However, as other reviewers mentioned, there wasn't much of a plot. It mostly revolved around the fete (the prep for it) Besides that, IMO Balogh can be quite repetitive. The reader is told again and again, about various people and their relationships to one another. Additionally, there is constant summarizing. For example, say there's a scene. Then later on, there a recap given of it. (Sometimes not long afterwards!) Multiple recaps are given of the same scene(s), some thought or etc. It drives me a little batty. (Even my memory is not that bad to need these constant reminders. That's how I view them.) This is not new. It has happened in previous books. Previously, I have been able to get through them (and basically overlook this quirk of the writer) due to the story/characters/plot being engaging. Lately, not so much.

Then there's the number of characters! Whew! If I actually counted all of them, it would have to be 2 dozen at least. Aside from the main characters/couple (Ben/Jennifer), we have a slew of other folks vying for the reader's attention. Such as the former MCs AND secondary characters from the previous books in the series (even one from the Westcott series). Add to these the characters (introduced) in this book. (Even Ben's letter and its consequences adds more folks.)

Several of these (secondary) characters are given quite a bit of 'screen time'. The reader even gets several of their POVs! (Even Joy's POV. SMH) Some have their own romances. Even possible lead characters for the next book were hinted at (and they too were given a bit of 'screen time' as well. Ben's daughter, Joy, was featured A LOT. Personally, I think a bit too much. I am not a big fan of kids being featured predominately in a HR. I also had a hard time believing she was only three. She was beyond precocious. IMHO, this took away from the flow of the story. Ben and Jennifer were often overshadowed by all this clutter for lack of a better word. I think if would have been better if some of these 'scenes' were omitted, or just later 'told' about and not 'shown'.

Alright, all this and I haven't even said much about the MCs! I like them individually and as a couple. I would have liked--no, LOVED--if it concentrated more on them. If they had been given more time together time...possibly even in different setting (i.e. non-family only setting, Ben's home?).

As in many Balogh's books, the family theme was emphasized: a VERY large, close-knit family. Jennifer's family loved her, but they coddle...even smothered her a bit. Surprisingly, they were initially resistant to the ideas that would give her greater independence (AND hello more enjoyment in life). It took Ben, for her to realize her capabilities. To move out of her comfort zone (and family shadow). Ben is kind and a great father. He too has been held back as it were but in a different way. With Jennifer, he has finally found someone he could be his true self with.

Recap. Balogh writing is great, as usual. However, the plot was slow moving (and a bit boring). And for me there were too many characters, which overtook the main characters (H/h) and muddled the plot/story. Again, I listened to the audiobook. I read some of the print version, and it was a bit better. Since I haven't loved the previous books in the series; I am not sure if I will continue with it. (My track record says differently.)

Content:
Intimacy: Some kissing, desire expressed
Violence: None that I recall
Language: Light usage

“I am not a victim. I am not helpless. I am not a project. We all yearn for the impossible from time to time. For the moon. That does not mean we cannot live productively and even happily with what is possible. The earth. Most of us can dream our dreams while also living our reality.”

This is a very low-stakes and sweet regency romance and fetaures disability rep (FMC) which I appreciated, it just lacked some flavor.

When you have two characters that are falling in love but are of different statuses (Lady x Bastard), you'd expect more angst and higher stakes but there was barely any.

I’ve been a long time fan of Mary balogh, & I’ve enjoyed her attempts in recent years to diversify her characters. With that said, though, I believe balogh needs to engage in some learning about modern day disability communities & fat liberation, and to engage several sensitivity readers to help her craft more sensitively & affirmingly drawn characters. Her disability representation is not where I’d expect in 2023, nor is her depiction of the fat character. These characters are depicted with a lot of typical & harmful and outdated stereotypes. The author spends far, FAR too much focus on portraying these women as sort of dutiful, Mary sues who put a smiling face on their “suffering” so as not to allow their “suffering” to inconvenience any of their loved ones. ITs very uncomfortable how these characters are portrayed and I’m sorry to say I don’t think I’ll be able to continue with this author. I miss the days when the author gave us characters like Freya & Wulfric, flawed characters who felt fully realized as people, with the various strengths and weaknesses of character you would expect in a human. Now we seem to get women who are sort of portrayed as being downtrodden by society and yet perpetually “grin & bear it” until some man comes in and loves them “despite their disability/body size/socioeconomic status/reputation/etc”. Additionally, Balogh’s apparent commitment to having absolutely zero queer rep, or characters of color, not even in side characters, has become unacceptable to me. It’s 2023, I expect even historical romance to be doing a much better job of providing GOOD diverse rep throughout.

I wanted to like this book, so much, but ultimately it was tedious with a generous splash of ableism for added spice. By halfway through I was rolling my eyes and groaning every time the text mentioned that Lady Jennifer was unable to walk but never complained, and was always cheery and pleasant, never whiny. That’s a standard no able-bodied person would ever be held to. Frankly, I dearly wanted to see Jenny throw a fit and tell her family to get wrecked and stop infantilizing her. I was also very displeased with Ben’s “loving” family who made sure he knew he wasn’t good enough for any well-bred lady because of his illegitimate birth, but couched in nice words and implied meanings so he couldn’t outright object to their actions. And speaking of action, not a whole lot happens in this book, at least not relative to the number of words written. There is so much reiteration of previous events in every chapter. Very often, dialog felt more like the author expounding on her theories of human nature and relationships rather than a genuine exchange between characters. The pace was so slow that I repeatedly found my attention wandering, which was not helped by the narrator’s soporific style. There is a precocious, ostensibly charming child character, and frequent use of the word , which might be historically accurate but was jarring to this modern reader. I found the previous book disappointing, too, and I’m not sure I’ll be continuing the series at this rate.

I'm a big fan of Mary Balogh, as evidenced by the fact that I own most of her books. She's a wonderful writer, but I was
disappointed in this book. It was a sweet storyline, but it was lost amidst the myriad and almost infinite list of Wares and their connection to a vast array of other noble families. Also, the book seemed nothing more than an unending itinerary of the long celebrated fete. In short, this was a very boring Balogh
Novel. Also, a trivial irritant, the 3 yr old,h had the vocabulary of a 10 yr old.

An eldest bastard son of an earl and the physically disabled daughter of a duke grow to be friends, and then more, during a big family get-together in preparation for a summer fete. In addition to Balogh's annoyingly repetitive internal monologue recaps of previous actions (which are taking up more and more space in her recent books), this story also contains a huge amount of narrative recounting of preparations for the fete, as well as forays into brief scenes with what seems like thousands of other family characters (if one actually counted, it might be closer to 20 than 1,000. But they're as distrating as 1,000...).

With so much filler, there's not much room for anything like a plot here, beyond Ben wanting to help Jennifer gain greater mobility through teaching her to drive a gig and thinking up the possibility of a shoe that will help her to walk better. The depiction of disability here isn't as cringe as in some of Balogh earlier books, but Jennifer's portrayal does come uncomfortably close to the edge of the "virtuous and courageous disabled" stereotype at times.

The only conflict in the story is over whether the two protagonists' families will accept their marriage. Which, of course, since this is a Balogh novel, they do by story's end, without much angst or even argument over the matter.

I enjoyed Ben, the male protagonist, a lot; his belonging-but-n0t-quite-belonging situation with his family struck a real emotional chord. Ever-cheerful disabled Jennifer I found a bit harder to take; the narrative endorses her decision to always put on a good face and never complain about the difficulties of her situation. Me, myself, I prefer a character who is allowed a little more anger, a little more frustration, when faced with life's difficulties.

At least Jennifer got to finally be a bit honest with Ben...

At the beginning not so bad. But got boring. Too many names, every time, who came to the fete, who to the picnic, who went to the church or the little town. Too much. The 3 year old daughter that speaks like a 10 year old. And if I have to read one more time that Ben is a bastard!!!! Ughh!

Mary Balogh returns us to the Ravenswood family as they gather together for the first summer since the one that destroyed the family as they knew it eight years ago.

Along with the revelers, my two family members that are both isolated from the family and their own unique way.

Ben maybe the eldest son of the Earl Ravenswood, but as an illegitimate son of the Earl he holds a precarious place in the family dynamic. Made to feel welcome and always part of the family, he’s always known that his illegitimacy does not place him at the same level as his brothers and sisters.

Lady Jennifer, related to the family through the marriage of her brother, has experienced life wrapped up in cotton wool. After an illness in her childhood leaves her with a deformed leg and unable to walk on her own, she has found herself permanently, thought of as lacking. Rightfully, the daughter/sister of a duke she should have her pick up suitors and be married with her own parcel of children. She can only hope to be an ant, and not too much of a burden for her family.

Sometimes you find talking to a stranger easier than your family and friends…

Both isolated Ben and Lady Jennifer find a connection they didn’t know they could have with the person they never thought they would with.

Another absolutely beautiful story full of love, family and hope as these two very deserving characters find love and the strength to fight past society expectations to reach for their own happiness.

I was full of emotions as I read through Ben and Lady Jennifer’s story - this was Mary Balogh at her best!

Thanks to Berkley Romance for my e-book review copy. Opinions are my own.

I don’t know how the writer does it. My heart simply went out to the love and pure joy of the book. The story was so heartfelt and giving. Giving of self. Giving of heart. Giving of love. Ben I think is the character who gave the most of his heart. He saw something taking place and he reacted upon it with heart. He saw beauty that no one else saw. I loved that the book focused so much around Ben and Jennifer. Having joy come along was even better. Having the support of family and friends for Ben and Jennifer was wonderful. The house was filled with so much fun and excitement. I truly loved the story in itself. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

*4.5 stars ✨

What I love about this series is the sense of family. Not only are you getting a sweet love story (expect no spice), but the love of family. Ben is the illegitimate son of the Ware clan, but has always been treated as one their own. He has been feeling like a second part of him is missing because he has never known is mother or her family. Ben will find that part of himself and giving him more family than he could ever imagine. In the meantime, he gets to know Lady Jennifer who is a ray of sunshine despite her circumstances. Their’s is a love story that defies all logic but they are so right for each other. This is a summer filled with family—a lot of characters—, discovering , tradition, joy, laughter, and love.

I want to love this series, but I have found each book dull and inspiring. The characters are perfect, the setting is perfect, minor conflicts (even you can call it that) are wrapped up quickly with a nice little bow.

The introduction of Ben’s mother side felt like an after thought and didn’t add anything to the story or Ben’s character. I wish there was more focus on Ben and Jenny and not 43 other people. It would have been lovely to see them and Joy be a family in their own home.

There is no special spark in the writing or characters to draw you in, nothing is memorable. I’m looking forward to Stephanie’s and hope Mary Balogh’s usual magic comes through.

As always, Rosalyn Landon to a great job on the narration.

This, in my opinion is the BEST one in the series yet, but still not the caliber of say the Bedwyn series, The Wescotts or the Simply series.

If you follow my reviews, you know the last book in the series left me BITTERLY disappointed.

But this one...oh my heart!

Lady Jennifer Arden and Ben Ellis know that a match between them is out of the question. She is the crippled sister of a duke and he is the bastard child of an Earl who was treated like family. At a summer party, they fall in love...
This slow burn sweetness was almost perfect.

The only issue i have with this book , was the endless chatter from the other characters points of views. Some of it was necessary to the storyline, but some of it was just extra.
and the endless description of every person and who they were...at times I was confused. I feel like there was too much emphasis on the secondary characters. And it took away from the story slightly.

Thank you to netgalley for the Arc. all opinions are my own.

Maybe the bloom has gone off the rose for Mary Balogh and me, because this series has been disappointing me. The first one was enjoyable, and I was really looking forward to Ben's story, but the second one really let me down and this one is no exception.

Always Remember is the third book in the Ravenswood series and I thought it was really sweet. It’s about Lady Jennifer Arden, sister of Lucas from Remember Me, and Ben, the half brother of Devlin from Remember Love. Jenny is in a wheelchair, a result of a childhood illness. Ben was brought to Ravenswood by his father after his mother died when he was young. Ben was a result of his father’s affair with another woman and I loved how Clarissa, his father’s wife accepted him and how he became close to and was loved by his half brothers and sister. He has a daughter, Joy, from a previous marriage when he was in the army and his wife died from an illness. He is looking for a new wife to be a mother to Joy.

Jenny and Ben meet at a summer house party at Ravenswood, when Ben sees Jenny trying to practice walking in private. It is really wonderful when he helps Jenny with a shoe and brace he designed. My favorite part is when he teaches her to drive a carriage and to see her happiness as she to tries new things and becomes more independent. She in turn, helps Ben with a situation he is not sure how to respond to. He receives a letter in the mail from his mother’s side of the family, expressing an interest in him and he wonders what their intentions are. I won’t reveal more here.

Jenny was wary to open her heart after a brief crush last year from a handsome man who offered her marriage because of her dowry and who she decided not to marry. Ben worried that her family might not accept him because he is illegitimate.

It was fun to see the couples from the first two books in the series with their children. But the hardest thing for me was remembering all of the names of the brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts and friends because there were so many in the story. It was wonderful watching Ben and Jenny (and little Joy) find love and happiness together. Thank you to NetGalley, Berkeley and the author for this ARC.

Ben's and Jennifer's story. Jennifer turned down an offer of marriage because she didn't trust her suitor - he always smiled. Ben is determined to marry so his daughter Joy has a mother, but he can't decide between the three single women his age in the village. Both are invited to Ravenswood. There Ben receives a disturbing letter, but helps Jennifer make strides toward achieving her dream of more mobility. Can more than friendship develop between a duke's sister and the illegitimate son of an earl?

Rounded up because of the characters thoughtfulness.

I was so hoping that the disabled, ever cheerful Lady Jennifer, sister of the Duke of Wilby, would get her own HEA. And, I felt the same way about Ben Ellis, the reliable, kind illegitimate son of the late Earl of Stratton. And, here it is! A book with both of them! Oh, this story with them was sheer perfection! They were absolutely adorable together (along with Ben's delightful 3-year old daughter, Joy). This is a definite "sighworthy" read. I loved it. ;)
