THE REVIEW

Why this book?
A Zombie Cinderella retelling of course i'm gonna read it

What I thought

I love fairytale retellings and Cinderella is my least favorite fairytale, but I admit I've read many Cinderella retellings. Anyway this has got to be my least favorite retelling. Even though I love zombies this just fell flat. Maybe if it was longer it would've been alot better but it wasn't so it was just bad. With that said I won't be reading any more of the zombie retellings from this author.

She heard a crack and could smell the brains within. She brought down the poker one more time, and the skull broke apart like a gourd.

I am not a fan of retellings or zombies but this one was free on Kindle and I wanted something different as a quick break from my current nonfiction.

Having only 40 pages, this Cinderella retelling was a fun (if eating brains is fun) and super quick read.

I was surprised that what I enjoyed the most was the zombie part. Maybe it shouldn't have been a surprise as I do love the macabre. But once the story took a more morbid course, I was suddenly hooked! Too bad this was just a small part at the end.

If you want a very quick zombie read with no strings attached, pick this one up.

I really enjoyed this bloody little yarn. And I do mean bloody. This short story skirts the line of Splatterpunk. Reader beware, this story is not for the faint of heart!

That said I think I will read the rest of these fairytales.

I received a free copy of this book for review.

This is certainly a new twist on the Cinderella fairytale. Cinderella is scratched by an old woman with the plague after her fathers funeral. When she returns home she is ill and is mistreated by her wicked step mother and step sisters but instead of happily ever after zombie Cinderella takes over. This short story is well written and an original thought on an old tale. Its full of ick and gore (and altho not my genra of choice) will definitely appeal to those that like horror. Its not for everyone and I would put it in the over 18 category just because of the violence and the ick factor.

I think my obsession with zombies is starting to get a little unhealthy... I have literally been snapping up each and every zombie book I find. And this series has seriously been gold. I can't even tell you how glad I am that I discovered it. I literally flew this installment and am already almost done with the next one.

Let me just say I'm a SUCKER for anything that has been zombified. Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, Alice in Zombieland and the like -- I love it all. So zombie fairy tales is really one of the best things I can ask for.

I absolutely loved this first installment. Cinderella has long been one of my favorite stories and while I actually liked her stepsisters in the Disney version (yes, I'm weird but they were also HILARIOUS) in every other version they have been unbearable as has her stepmother. So to see them "get what they deserve," so to speak, has been just amazing. I can't wait to reach the second half of Cinderella's story and see how the ball turns out. I know that will be just as amazing as this story.

As for the second installment, well, I've been enjoying it just as much as the first and I can't wait finish it and move on through the series. So, jump on the bandwagon now. If you love zombies as well as dark and awesome fairy tales, this story is so for you!

Seriously awesome book! I will admit, it is a short read but it is SOOO good! I purchased this on Amazon and I believe I paid $2.99. Wow, was it worth it. Think Cinderella meets Saw II but with zombies. These are no regualr zombies but horrid, terrifying zombies that can still think and still feel in their own way. It makes them more horrifying. I hate to say it but I kinda cheer her on through the whole thing! Thank you Kevin Richey for bringing me some of the best fairy tales EVER! I hope you continue this and continue with gore infused fairy tales! Even if you change it up from zombie to something else. You really rock!!!!

Richey is an amazing young writer. I am loving his short story and i can't wait to read the rest. I was trying to avoid any zombie related reading but i'm glad i finally gave in. I love all the dark humour in this short story! But I do feel a little sick. Maybe i shouldn't eat breakfast at the same time as reading a zombie book!

Impressive, creative and painful

Have you read something so graohic and so well-built, with a cruelty you would never have imagined, that each page hurt? If not, grab your copy of this book. It has difficult to keep on reading, but waiting for a revenge as delicious as the torture was inhuman, I went page after page. And it was worth it, it was glorious, and it was magnificent. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series!

As a child, I was fascinated by fairytales, just like any girl would be. I loved Cinderella, sleeping beauty, snow white, and bell and well a lot many other names. I longed for when the prince would arrive and end the princesses’ sufferings by taking them away from all evil. To be honest like every girl, I was waiting for my very prince charming, and was dying to be a princess too and have my own fairy tale, where I would be the fairest maiden in the entire country. However, growing up I learned it was all a lie. There was no magic, no unicorns, no kingdom and for all, no prince charming. When I was older enough to look at the reality, my sister was still a kid, fascinated by all the stuff I had out grown by then. The same violence on the princesses, then at last the prince comes and ended it all. I felt why can’t the girls do something. Why is it that only their Prince comes and saves them? Why can’t the girls themselves stand and up against the torture, the mistreatment and say its enough? Are we girls not strong enough to face people? Cant we take our own revenge, without being dependent on a man to come along, taking an oath to save us? I wanted to see the girls being wild and take their own revenge, that wish of mine was fulfilled by the author.

When I first saw the book, I thought what alteration would be possible, I mean what would Cinderella do being a zombie. The job I took for discovery, turned out to be one of the best things I have read this year. The book was AWESOME. From the very beginning to the end, the book just grabbed me, making me sit on my chair till the book was over. I just couldn’t stop myself from reading, even if my body starved for water. In the beginning, looking at the scenes, the emotion that was started, I wasn’t sure if I would be satisfied by the ending, as I have seen books with a great beginning, but a not very satisfying ending. And to be honest, I was more than satisfied! The book is different, great, awesome, and a must read.
However, irrespective of being such a fan of this book, I would suggest only those people who are okay with violence, as the contents of the book may be TOO violent for some people.
GUESS I FOUND OUT WHAT I AM GONNA BE THIS HALLOWEEN!

So far, pretty silly but fun!

These fairy tales are being released as short stories throughout 2012 on the 13th of each month. I got this story for my kindle free from Amazon.com. I think they are trying to addict us to them so we pay for the next installment, which may just work. Besides being pretty nasty with blood and juices, this storyline step-mother and her daughters are so much worse than I remember. I wonder if my mind only remembers the Disney versions. Hmmmm, I need to check out some Grimm again.

This story was so gross, yet full of warped funny parts. Well, I suppose it is kind of like the juxtaposition of turning well-loved childhood fairy tales into zombie fests! You can taste test the humor here when our zombified Cinderella tastes brains for the first time, “And she thought cheerfully to herself how much it was similar to scooping out the innards of a pumpkin, and that lent the occasion a festive feeling.”

These tales seem to be quite irreverent and will enjoy being disgusting and shocking. However, they are really well-written and I believe the stories will be connected somehow. There has been a plague in Cinderella’s village and it will most likely be the cause of many fairy tale zombies. If you liked the idea of all those books like Pride & Prejudice and Zombies you will probably like these. Though they are light-hearted (as light-hearted as vengeance seeking zombies can be) and so far don’t really have a moral or lesson to the story, they are simply twisted and fun. I give the first one 3 stars.

The February release was Hansel and Gretel are Dead and I guess they give that cannibal witch quite a surprise.

This was a good, fast read. Some of the points about zombies I had to step back from and look at it fresh. Cinderella seemed to be able to think while she did her zombie thing, which was different from what I have seen so far with zombies, but it was a nice, fresh look at them.

I liked the step sisters most because there was a point you could see how human they were in their evilness. The coldness they showed Cinderella just before the ball was disturbing yet seemed to show the most about their characters.

A particular favorite of mine was the graveyard scene in the beginning with the woman in black. A write up at the end tells us that the woman in black figures into the stories more and we learn more about her as the stories progress. For this reason (and that Mr. Richey is a great writer) I will continue reading the series.

Good short length with a lot of gory descriptions.Overall, an interesting retelling, although the concept of a vengeful zombie (one who can recall past abuse and plot to dish out violent punishment, exerting a lot of energy in the process) was a bit confusing. It was like taking a semi-intellectual zombies from Warm Bodies and turning her lose on the fairy tale world to right the wrongs against her. While not an idea I can personally get behind, it was intriguing nonetheless. Will probably continue the series since the e-books are cheap (and my interest has been piqued by a glimpse at a book later in the series detailing Cinderella at the ball).

I love this book and cannot wait to read the next one. Cinderella is a bad@ss Zombie and she is taking names and kicking butt. This book is not for the faint at heart. Kevin holds nothing back and how Zombie Cinderella takes control of her evil step mother. I cannot wait to read how she takes down her step sisters.

I love zombies and I love Fairy Tales, and Kevin Richey, brought them together so well. I loved how the book ended, I always wanted the stepmother to get her "just desserts". I love how Kevin gives such detail to everything, the gore is great! To be the gorier the better. If you love gore and fairy tales and zombies then this is the book for you.

This first half of the Cinderella story is very similar to the original, albeit with Cinderella being unwell after encountering a zombie! I found the extent of the evilness of the stepmother and stepsisters quite shocking and sad, and loved the revenge of Cinderella on the stepmother for this reason. I'm looking forward to part two to see what she does to the sisters!

As someone who's not really into zombies, I wasn't sure I would enjoy these stories, but as a free boxset (it was on offer when I bought it), I thought it was worth a look as I do love fairytales, and I wasn't disappointed. They are both very different from, and yet contain very clear nods to the originals. All have zombie plague themes running through them, and you need to read through them in the boxset order as there are references to the earlier stories in the later ones. These are definitely not for children, as they are very violent and often disturbing stories, but if you like fairytale retellings and/or zombies, this is definitely a set of short stories for you!

Wonderful!

This book was perfect. A great twist to the classic. The treatment of Cinderella was so horrible that you’re begging for her step family to die.....and died they did! I only wish it would have continued a little further because she wasn’t finished. It leaves the possibility of her not succeeding but room for imagination all the same. Great work here and a must read for those who like zombies and twisted fairytales

Short Story; She had it coming: The story was intriguing and vivid, not just the zombie descriptions. The stepmother infuriated me. This is the worst treatment of Cinderella that I have ever seen. It would have been nice to see her stepsisters get their comeuppance too. It had me enthralled. Good zombie story.

This is an excellent horror story, if you like horror stories. It is well written, has good character and plot development. That being said, I found myself faintly sick after reading it. I think my son, who is a horror fan, would enjoy it more.

Kevin Richey's Zombie Fairy Tale series kicks off with Zombie Cinderella which is a well written, gory, comical kick up the back side of everything Grimm. Richey has a real talent and flourishes his work through excellent descriptive detail and is able to stay true to the original but enhance it with his unique twist of events.

The story starts with the death of Cinderella's father and the cruelty inflicted upon her by her step mother and step sisters. When the fairy god mother comes to help her out - things kick off in full gear and you will never be able to look at the Disney classic or even the original story again.

Richey is able to draw upon his characters with a 3D approach making them life like and it makes you relish each and every word. When the turn of events fully kicks off, there is no stopping Richey to celebrate the zombie and fairy tale stories adding his own unique touch to the proceedings.

This book is an incredible read and highly recommended for anyone who is looking for something that is slightly different. You find that you will forcibly try to slow down from the end as you want to cherish each and every moment.

The book is available for download at a steal for the Amazon kindle and the cover looks amazing on the new Kindle Fire. It is a mere 39 pages but any longer would take away from the fairy tale mode of the writing.

The Zombie fairy tales starts out with Zombie Cinderella and will continue for 15 exciting volumes. There is a new instalment promised on the 13th of each month with special editions for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas to round out the series in its entirety.

I am hoping that somewhere in the future, Richey will be able to put these in a two book anthology and hopefully, with the right publication company, be able to keep the original covers as a colour insert to show the amazing work that has gone into this production.

Richey is a definite talent to look forward and I look forward to reading the rest of the series and being able to see what he comes up with next.

Amazing and certainly a must read for horror, zombie, fairy tale enthusiasts everywhere. I urge you to read now. Top marks all the way around.

I loved how horrific the step family was. I don't think I've ever read a Cinderella story where they were quite so awful. Nor one where Cinderella's father died the same night as the ball. The short notice invite seemed a little silly, but quite possible - less prep time means less fakery. I liked it. Though if it had been a normal Cinderella story, one could say that she married the prince because of her broken heart. But it's not that kind of story.

I find myself sad that the family is likely to only die. They were a particular shade of vindictive and I'd have liked to have seen them becoming low paid servants or being thrown into prison or something. They were the worst! They seriously had some Cinderella hate going on. She was completely blindsided. We don't know enough about cinderella - is she the lovely girl from the fairytales? Or as the steps say - lazy and nasty? It's not too important honestly, we feel sorry for her either way.

My biggest complaint is this is only half the story, part 2 is actually book 6 in the series. This is vastly annoying but I'm happy with leaving this story here. It had a well written introduction and it was pretty interesting to read, but I don't think I want to run through another 4 stories to reach Cinderella's conclusion. So why don't I just skip? Well, because there will be some cross over and I'll get annoyed and then feel like I need to read the others. A clever marketing scheme, but one that sometimes has the opposite effect.

Was originally posted on Paranormal Sisters: http://paranormalsisters.blogspot.com...

I originally read this back in August of 2012 and I never got to reviewing it for some reason but I did write this "Omfg, this was so good and I just love this guy! :D review to come" haha. Well, here's the review finally, almost three years later.

The Stepmother had it coming and I can't wait to see what Cinderella does to her stepsisters in the sequel, Zombie Cinderella II: The Ball! This was such an enjoyable reread for me, I totally forgot how truly cruel the stepmother and stepsisters were! I loved the twist on the "fairy godmother" Mr. Richey did! I also love how long it takes for the zombie virus to take effect, it isn't the fast type of zombies you see in movies, which makes the read that much more enjoyable as we watch her change!

Overall this was a wonderful bloody twist on Cinderella! It's unbelievable that you can live with your intestines out of your body but you can, which makes this read even more creepy! Kevin Richey does it again and I'm dying to read the sequel!

What fun, what fun. I might be a bit generous with my 4 stars but I think I simply cannot help being supportive to the concept of mixing fairy tales with Zombies, two of my favorite fictional worlds combined.
For while I was not so sure "Zombie Cinderella" would win me over the way it did in the end, the beginning is a bit so-so. We start off at the funeral of Cinderella's father where the girl has a scary encounter. After she gets back home, things get rather rushed to turn her into the family's maid, characters and dialogue are somewhat clunky but we are not here for insightful studies, are we? We came for the terror of the Undead. And boy, do we get it.
It does get gruesomely violent, fair warning, but what I liked best was that there was a sweet irony to the Zombie actions, climaxing with a nice pumpkin reference. I think it could have used even more of those, the fairy tale atmosphere could have been stronger leveled against the Zombie rampage but I think you can only ask so much of a 40 page story, shouldn't forget, there is a sequel where Cinderella gets to the ball... yum!

'Zombie Cinderella' takes the classic fairy tale and adds in a healthy dose of horror, twisting the story into a tale of gory revenge.

I thought this was a really cool and original idea. The story is fairly short and it felt a bit bare in places; the sisters didn't get given names, back stories weren't explored, and it all took place in one night. It also ends just as the story really gets fired up but I can see there is a second part out that continues the tale.

The tale itself is twisted perfectly to produce a satisfying story of revenge. It's easy to sympathise with Cinderella because of all the brutal punishments inflicted on her. The horror element is very well handled with some pretty gruesome content towards the end. There were also glimmers of dark humour which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Overall this is a satisfying revenge story that puts an original twist on a classic tale. I would recommend fans of horror and zombie fiction.

{my thoughts} - This book has an interesting spin on the fairy tale world. I have to admit that I enjoy reading all things fairy tales no matter how disturbing it may become. This book is well written, it is engaging and it pulls the reader in to the very last second wanting more. I enjoyed reading this particular take on Cinderella because well to be honest I never found it fair that she was treated so awful and didn't have the means of the ability to get even wit her step mother and step siblings for all the horrid things that they had done to her once her father had passed. If you enjoy fairy tales and want to read an interesting spin on them, I would have to reccomend this book to you. I promise you won't regret reading it.

{reason for reading} - I was given a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.
