I read this lovely story on my Kindle. If PRIDE & PRINCESSES were in paperback it would be like a box of the yummiest chocolates covered in pink and gold wrapping. Interesting world, fun characters, well-written and so much more than the sweet pleasure it at first appears to be. I'd say it is for the teen/YA market (I'm a grown up) but definitely also for me! I really enjoyed this e-read. Yes, it has some modern day similarities to 'Pride and Prejudice', but that just makes it even better than the usual high school tale it at first appears to be. The story is fast, funny and charming and the ending is extremely unforgettable. *Not printing spoilers*, but I wasn't sure what I thought about the unexpected twist...That said, PRIDE & PRINCESSES is quite unique to this genre (Young Adult fiction). A Wonderful read.

Fantastic, beach read for young girls - although the ending was pretty full on, a real page turner (although I read it on Kindle).

This wasn’t as much of a modern Pride and Prejudice as I thought it was going to be. There was an element of Pride and Prejudice and a little of Emma (more like Clueless) but it was also a story of its own.

Best friends,Phoebe and Mouche, are juniors at Sunrise Performing Arts High School, and are tired of unromantic boys who show no interest in wooing a girl. The girls decide to write a guide they call The Boy-Rating Diary. They have read all these old dating and beauty guides called Mrs Robinson’s Advice, Sophia’s Pathway to Beauty and How to please your Potential Husband, to name a few (I love the titles of these guides and the quotes sprinkled through out the story!). They have come up with a set of rules for dating. As part of their “research” they go on practice dates and compare notes. The object of the diary is to create a dating manual for teenage girls.

While writing the rules for the manual, The Dating Game is created. To win the game you have to get asked to the prom by Mark Knightley!

Mark Knightley is hot, rich, arrogant, quiet and misunderstood by the girls. His best friend is Jet Campbell, who is also hot, easy going, always smiling and very likable. Joel Goodman is a good-looking smooth talker and not to be trusted. Do these characters remind you of anyone?

The Princesses (a group of mean girls) find out about the game and want to play. Phoebe and Mouche let them in on the game but don’t share all their secrets.

The competition drives a wedge between Phoebe and Mouche and they learn about friendships and what is more important than winning.

It was really a good story with a surprising ending, one that I didn’t see coming. Unfortunately, I felt it was a bit scattered, the story didn’t flow well. I would have to stop sometimes and back track a little to figure out what was going on. It is for this reason I give this a 3 star rating instead of a 4.

This was a surprise to me. I discovered PRIDE & PRINCESSES on Kindle and it was such an enjoyable read I wanted to write a review. Where to start? Firstly, I really appreciated the way this story was told, from the point of view of teenage Phoebe, the story unfolds and becomes more exciting with each chapter. The plot revlolves around main characters Phoebe, her best friend Mouche, their families and the snobbish new boys at school, Mark and Jet. It's also a dating guide of sorts with some amusing 'advice' - a la the world of teenage dating and that of the characters' families, prospective boyfriends (or 'manzamples') as well as their frenemies - a school clique known as 'The Princesses'. I think PRIDE & PRINCESSES is part of a new genre of ereads - high school Austenesque, but I have never read anything like this or that is written in such a fun, considered voice. Although Pride & Princesses appears quite straightforward, at first, the story is layered and witty and really original in its own way. If you are looking for an exact re-telling of Pride & Prejudice, this really isn't it, but PRIDE & PRINCESSES by Summer Day pays homage to the classic tale in its own way. I have to mention that I was page turning until the final chapter and the ending was very powerful, unique and surprising. Recommended if you like high school stories, calssics with a twist and chic lit that's more than it seems...

Pride & Princesses is one of the best novels of its genre I've read, it would be enjoyed by teens and grown ups. Transcends its genre. Wonderful!

Wow it was bad. Love most anything that even hints at Jane Austen's characters but this was only so so, and nearly even that.

I liked that is was not just a Pride & Prejudice remake but had bits of Emma (or maybe more Clueless), Northanger Abbey, and even a bit of Sense & Sensibility. I even liked the slightly cliche/overdone dating idea, and I felt she had the makings of a good story. Unfortunately the presentation was just horrible.

Really wanted to like this one and I think I might have if Summer Day had gotten a good editor. Instead I found myself jarred out of the story repeatedly while I tried to figure out what she was trying to say, how her time line worked, who this random new character was she seemed to think I knew, or even what season it was supposed to be. I found myself continuing to read constantly saying in the back of my mind the writing will get better, it will all start to make sense soon. But alas it didn't. Early on she didn't seem to have finalized "The Princesses" names and a couple of them seemed to change a bit which was annoying. Then she would say something like "the year was half over" I'd think okay wow we got to january fast then 2 pages later "in October" ... wait how did we get in October I thought we were in January. Very disconcerting and annoying. Also she seemed to get off topic quite often telling some part of the story, then saying "Oh I goes I should tell you about...." and then moving on. The story never flowed and even at the end with the final view of what she was trying to pass on in her crazy diary/long letter format I was left wondering what just happened and why in the world should I care.

So glad I was able to borrow this one and not waste the money on.

**It was bad enough I may not read as much Jane Austen fan fiction. I'm for sure going to avoid those that appear to be self published.**

I had no expectations for this, found it on kindle and am familiar with Pride & Prejudice (like almost everyone!) If you are expecting the same story this just isn't it; Pride& Princesses is so original and different and a story that captured my imagination in its own right which is why I'm giving it full stars. Pride & Princesses far exceeded my expectations as I don't think it's striving to be more than just a good story, well told and it manages more than that. I found the characters stayed with me as did the ending. I also think this is a teen novel (I am just out of my teens) that some adults would enjoy, but that is more directed towards high schoolers. Pride & Princesses has loads of information about dating and friendship weaved around a classic, easy to read story. I couldn't put it down.

Mouche and Phoebe are best friends. In this modern day twist on a classic tale, Pride and Princesses catalogues the romances - and romantic failures - of two friends determined to date properly. And by properly, they mean by playing "the game." They resolve to date every boy in school and record their experiences in a diary. Little do they know that everything will change when "the game," turns into true love. It's a book you have to read for yourself to decide if you like it.

Amazing, I read this straight through and loved every page. What a value read! Loosely baased on Pride & Prejudice but set in a Bel Air High School, it is about a dating game two best friends create to get the 'hot new boys' to take them to the prom. They get more than they bargain for, including the unwanted attention of the not-so-polite 'Princesses' - a group of girls trying to rule the school - who want in on their game. Funny and unexpected, gotta give this story full stars.

This was very sweet story. It managed to blend in parts of Emma and Pride and Prejudice into it. The ending was not what I expected and really took me by surprise. This is a cute book for young girls. I really loved that it had some really good points about love and relationships for young girls.

One word describes this book for me: messy. Its plot likes to jump around without reason. I don't find the characters memorable. I agree with one of the review here in goodreads, it's hard to follow. And it didn't give enough motivation to continue following.

Enjoyed every page of this YA! I'd say it is 'inspired' by Pride & Prejudice but it is a unique story, well written, unlike anything I've read. A really good beach read with a lot of fun dating tips and a strong story about friendship. I'd have to rate this very high!

Really loved this. It's an straightforward story, easy to read and nicely written about a group of high school kids who invent a dating game. They get more than they bargained for. Ending is unusual. Have to give this full stars, it's a keeper.

This book was disappointing to me. The basic story was good but there was so much going on that I sometimes became confused. The story didn't flow smoothly and seemed choppy in places. I found myself even rereading a few pages to try and figure out what I missed. The ending blew but that has nothing to do with the quality of the writing. I just was unhappy with the direction the author went for the ending.

I loved the characters. They were colorful and realistic, for the most part. A few were stereotypical but they were mostly background characters so they actually fleshed out the story some. The two main characters were endearing and likable. They came from educated families and went to an upper-crusty school but I found myself asking what the heck they were talking about a couple of times. I'd like to say that I'm fairly intelligent, I was an English major in school and can carry on a decent conversation but, if I talked like these girls, I can only imagine the blank stares I'd receive. I have two teenagers and they definitely don't talk anything like these girls.

The main male characters were a modern day, teenaged Darcy and Bingley. Jet was awesome from the beginning but Mark (Darcy) was never fully evolved. If I'd never read Austen's version, I'd have no idea what was going on with him until toward the end. The plot just seemed to jump ahead too often like the author expected the reader to just know what was happening without having to explain it. Again, this added to the choppiness.

I don't like to leave negative reviews for someone else's hard work but I think this story would've been great if it had been a little more streamlined. Taking out some of the unimportant details and adding to the action would clarify it so much. Using a simpler style of dialogue would help, too. I'm not saying this is a bad book, I actually enjoyed the main plot, I just feel it could be so much better. Would I read it again? Probably. Will I read more books by this author? I've already downloaded another, so I'm at least giving her a second chance. I see a lot of potential.

This book, to the kindness of the author, was free.

I'm not going to lie, I adore Summer Day. She's been a dear friend of mine on Twitter for quite sometime, but in no way does that affect my review of her novel, Pride & Princesses.

Pheobe, and her best friend, Mouche (pronounced Mooshe) are like any other teenage girl. They like clothes, dancing and boys... one boy in particular--Mark Knightly.

I liked the concept of the book. The whole dating rule book idea was hilarious! The drama it caused, the laughs and the tears were so much like any teen's life. I wasn't taken by Mouche. I thought Phoebe was much to nice for a friend like her. Mark was interesting as a male lead; cool, confident. The fact that he was handsome, popular and rich only upped the interest for our heroine.

As YA novels go, this is the kind of book you want on a long plane ride or on a warm summer day at the park. It's light and fun and it flows nicely. I didn't see a whole lot of Jane Austin in there, but then again, I can't say I'm an overly huge fan (although, I do love the movies).

So, in conclusion:

Will I read the next book? Yes.

Will I tell my friends about this book? Yes.

Did I enjoy it? Yes.

I 'bought' Pride & Princesses on Kindle during a free promo (that just ended), and finished reading it the same day. I was expecting nothing much but this YA really delivered! I thought it was very 'charming', deceptively well-written (I've studied the classics and adore Austen!) and a wonderful addition to the Pride & Prejudice genre that is going around. This is very different, though. It stands as a story in its own right and without mentioning spooilers has one of the most unexpected endings I've ever read. I would have to recommend this to readers in their mid-teens and adults who have teens. There are some very good pieces of advice (I think) for teenage girls - disguised in the form of a game. I thought the themes of love and friendship were very wise and very sweet. A wonderul and unexpected read. It starts off and you think it is your average YA story but it delivers a great deal more than that!

I am not one to DNF a book, I try very, very hard to give a book all the chances but this one was just so rough for me. I don’t know if it was the fact that it seemed to jump around and not really have one concise direction or if it was the advice from this book and that book or the fact that everything was so detailed with Mouche’s street and Mouche’s pool and Mouche’s bed. I read a few chapter and then said I can’t do it but there was a “twist” at the end and I really just wanted to know what that was so I jumped to second to last chapter…the ending was just so jumbled and weird…plus what actually happened between Mark and Phoebe?!? I’m just so lost – sorry I HATE to do this but it’s a 1 star book for me.

Pride & Princesses by Summmer Day starts out like your typical take on the teen lit genre... but it is ultimately so much more. This story, about a group of 'freinds' who invent their own teen dating game (with references to Austen's Pride & Prejudice and Emma), doesn't offer 'high concept action' but is a very different and unforgettable twist to the teen romance tale. I really loved this story (and I wish it was in paper), but even so, it's one of my favourite stories for teens (and maybe also adults). I loved the characters of Phoebe and Mark and 'Moosh' and the Princesses made me laugh out loud. I have to strongly recommend this read 'cos it's better than good!
