It’s hard to flirt when sequins are chafing your bits…

Injured pole dancer Matt Lovell meets attractive radiographer Sal when he’s in casualty for an x-ray. Trouble is, Matt’s firefighter outfit is pretty convincing, and the longer he keeps up the pretence the harder it will be to reveal the naked that there’s nothing underneath his costume but a sequinned thong!

English through and through, Josephine Myles is addicted to tea and busy cultivating a reputation for eccentricity. She writes gay erotica and romance, but finds the erotica keeps cuddling up to the romance, and the romance keeps corrupting the erotica. She blames her rebellious muse but he never listens to her anyway, no matter how much she threatens him with a big stick. She's beginning to suspect he enjoys it.

Matt Lovell ends up in the hospital emergency room with a broken foot. Once he sets eyes on Sal, the gorgeous radiographer, and his frog scrubs, Matt is determined to hide his profession as a pole dancer. Since he’s still in his firefighter’s costume, this shouldn’t prove to be too difficult.

Though Matt and Sal are very different, the chemistry between them was palpable from the start. Matt’s a little flighty, a little slutty, but he’s been around the block a few times and knows what he wants. Sal is the perfect caregiver and knows his way around injuries.

This story was the perfect read for the gym. It was funny, sweet, and sexy with a distinctive English flavor. I had a silly smile on my face the entire time and can’t wait to read more of this author’s stories.

Pole-ar opposites.

Okay, you know a pun is bad if you have to make up a word for it to even work.

Whatever. Slow night.

This was nice. I enjoyed the British feel and the gentle pace of it. I liked the little details the best. There's one in particular involving the audible exertions of a cocksucker plying his trade while the subject of his ministrations takes a phone call; such a gay-dude situation, through and through, and I approve.

But mostly I kept thinking of all the strippers I've ever met, and chuckling at this or that similarity to the MC in this short.

Except the ones I saw in Thailand. These chicks slid down a thirty-foot pole at speeds barely below gravitational acceleration—in six inch heels.

*wistful sigh*

Badass.

In theory I’m currently torturing myself reading the latest creation from the minds of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. In reality I’m waiting to be approved for an ARC I actually want to read. While stuck in limbo I keep finding myself getting distracted by Goodreads notifications, and shiny objects, and, well, pretty much anything. I’ll blame Nancy’s review (along with the zero dollar price tag and my addiction to the “one-click”) for making me buy this one, along with the fact that I share my Kindle in the evenings with small children for the reason I decided to read it immediately. (My parenting is questionable enough without them having to see that I read things with titles like Pole Star during my lunch hour.)

Now you all owe Nancy a very special thank you, because her review of this short story points out that our MC, Matt, has ended up in the E.R. with an injury he received while stripping in a fireman’s costume. Mention of a stripper in a fireman’s costume led me to this little nugget I keep tucked away front and center in my amygdalae . . .

Let’s recap the checklist of what led me to this tale:

1. I’m currently reading a steaming pile of dung so it can’t get any worse;
2. Nancy is an awesome friend whose review popped up on my feed at the right time;
3. I’m addicted to obtaining as much free shit on the interwebs as is humanly possible;
4. Joe;

5. Joe;

6. Joe;

7. NSFW Joe;

8. VERY NSFW Joe (you get the point).

Wait. What was I talking about again? Oh yeah, I read this naughty short story about Joe Manganiello Matt and Sal and their adorkable meet-cute. (In an effort to provide full disclosure, please note that Matt is supposed to be a ginger and Sal is supposed to be dark, but I think allowing my brain a little flippy-floppy is perfectly acceptable in this case.) Should you find yourself with 20 minutes to spare while avoiding the book you’re supposed to be reading riding the bus to work or walking on the treadmill, and want something naughty, this is a good choice. And no, Amazon, I DO NOT want to share my Kindle purchases on Facebook. They are all pornography. You should know by now that they are always pornography. My aunts and uncles don’t need to see that.

This was a short, sweet free book that I read in 20 minutes before bed. It is mildly hot, very British, and cute in a quirky way. It wasn't anything special but it was well done and enjoyable. It could have been a whole lot longer for my taste.

A very short, pretty cute story about finding love in a hospital emergency room.

I downloaded my free copy ages ago, but that GR link doesn't work any more. : (

It's still free on Amazon, so you might want to give it a go. : )

THE CHARACTERS

Matt Lovell - The fresh, cute, sexy pole dancer.

Sal Mendoza-Jaquez - The hospital radiographer with a dark smile and a warm heart.

THE STORY

Matt is injured while sliding down the pole, so when he tells Sal how it happens it's easy to suggest it was while on the job...as a firefighter. He is wearing the costume, after-all.

Soon though, Matt wants to tell the truth because he wants to start out on the right foot with Sal. Plus, that sequin thong is giving him a rash, maybe it's messing with his conscience.

THE WRITING

The author's style is quick, fresh, light and enjoyable. I was pleased with the pace and found the my questions answered. It's a pretty quick jump into the sack, but that's not a problem in a story that's this much fun.

I do kind of wish poor Matt had some medicinal pain relief, but maybe that's an all too American trait. I just kept thinking about his pain. Luckily for Matt, Sal seemed to know just what to do.

Well for a short story (and FREE!) this one is cheeky fun and light read. Matt is a "Pole Star" (a.k.a pole dancer) and Sal is a sexy radiographer. The frog-patterned scrubs and boxer alone are adorable. Both men are likeable and I totally love their chemistry. The ending gives a sense of naughtiness and I can imagine how the two enjoying their relationship.

Well that was super cute! Pole dancer Matt ends up in the ER with an injured foot. Sal is the radiologist who does his x-rays. My favorite part was Sal's reaction when Matt tells him he's not really a fireman. Sweet story, some sexy 69 and a HEA! Loved it!!

Sweet and funny is a good combination in a short story, at least in my opinion, and this one has both elements in abundance. It is also more than a bit sexy all along and makes it to the "hot and passionate" stage before the end. The small twist was a nice surprise as well. And all this for free? Go and check it out for yourself.

Matt is a stripper, and a great one at that. When he sprains his ankle and ends up in the hospital, his grumpiness was so overdone it became funny. His inner dialog about the cute guy who takes him to get an X-ray is very amusing. Matt's way of looking at things, his fear of Sal discovering he only impersonates a fire fighter, was hilarious and when it all works out, and Sal brings him home, the passion that ensues is very – inspiring.

Sal is the exact opposite from Matt – well, except for his love of fun scrubs that matched Matt's interest in cartoon-covered boxers. Sal is responsible and dependable, and apparently interested in Matt. Good thing too, because I'm sure poor Matt would have jumped him anyway. But Sal is also caring and a great help for Matt, and I think they make a great couple.

If you like stories with lots of humor, enjoy British characters who use lots of English slang, and if you're looking for a hot, sexy story that will make you smile, you should give this book a try. I definitely liked it and would recommend it for a quick read.

I love the cover.

Story was okay. I didn't understand a lot of the British slang/phrases so think I missed a lot of the jokes.

Also for me it'd would have been better if it was less slutty. Like I didn't need to know he liked to participate in Daisy chains. And I didnt care that his boss was getting a blowjob while he was talking to him on the phone.

And by the end you really don't know either character. All we see is them meet. A couple hours later they have sex. Then it skips an unknown amount of time and they moving I together. So when it's over it's kind of like that's it?

But it's free and kind of cute

I know it's a free read
I know it has a MARVELOUS cover (even if the main character is red hair, and the model don't)
I know I should be grateful for this freebie, and I'm!!! THANKS FOR IT, YAY!

but... yeah meh. I didn't love the characters, and didn't laugh of their talking. And... it's ok, probably it's just not for me.

Try it :-) it's a short and free reading, and also very sensual romance. Maybe you will enjoy it more than I did

I love a cute, uncomplicated couple! I also love seeing people in funny situations, and being caught with a twisted ankle in a fireman's uniform in front of a hot radiographer in frog scrubs and not knowing how to tell him that under the velcro-seamed suit there's only a sequined g-string is a pretty funny situation!

This is a cute story and I really liked Sal :)

This short story is a pleasant mix of mild erotica and light-hearted romance.
It is a bit on the light side, with hardly any depth of characterization, but it is well thought of, well written and professionally edited.
The two leads are cute and fun to be around.

I will not bring it to the desert island with me but I do not mind the time spent reading.

Sweet and hot short!

Patience is not one of my virtues, so when I found myself anxiously awaiting a call for a MMGR Bingo Challenge, I decided to pick up this short.

It was worth the short I time spent on it, made me wonder about froggy underpants, and had a wonderful 69 scene.

2.5 stars for this short freebie. Nothing offensive or problematic. It was ok but lacked sparkle, shine or depth. Fine for a freebie.

Awww, nice! This one struck close to home for me. No, I'm not a guy and I'm definitely not a pole dancer (me and a dancing pole? Yikes)! But I AM a radiographer, the same as Sal. Sweet! Haven't looked at my profession as something sexy before ;)

Sooo familiar settings for me :)

"Sal pushed the chair through a door covered in yellow warning signs, including the radioactive one that always gave me the creeps.
“Is it safe?” slipped out of my mouth before I could stop it. Of course it was bloody safe. Sal wouldn’t be doing it otherwise, would he?
“Yes, it’s fine. (...)"

Yes, all the door in where I work have yellow warning signs, but I'm perfectly safe...

"I’ll be in there.” He gestured towards a small booth on the other side of the room.
“Hey, I thought you said this was safe,” I grumbled. “Can’t you stay here and hold my hand?”
“Not when I’ve got to operate the controls. Don’t worry. It’s painless and will be over before you know it.”
It didn’t exactly reassure me to see him disappearing through a door marked with more radiation warning signs."

... in my booth operating the controls. Thats me! :D

Common mistake, mixing radiographer and radiologist. I get asked that several times a week... ;)

“So what made you decide to be a radiologist, then?” I asked, thinking to steer the conversation in that direction before he asked me anything about my imaginary career fighting fires and heroically rescuing kittens from up trees.
“I’m a radiographer, actually.”
“What’s the difference?”
Sal gave just about the driest chuckle I’d ever heard. “Well, apart from the fact radiologists are qualified doctors"

"If you think the scrubs are a bit much, you should see the lead aprons they’ve got there. All covered in cute patterns."

Yes, I have one as well I use when the occasion calls for it. It's yellow with teddy bears on it. I also have regular blue.

As I said, nice!

I'm getting a bit sidetracked. Me raving about the quotes set a side, the story is short and sweet. Three stars for the story, the fourth for Sal's profession.

This review can be found at Brief Encounters Reviews

This humorous little story tells of our hero Matt, an expert on the pole, except tonight. He’s managed to damage his foot, and has been essentially dropped off at the emergency room by a friend and co-worker still in costume, that of a fireman. When a sexy x-ray tech takes him down for x-rays, he flirts up a storm. They seem to have a lot in common even if he’s not Matt’s type, and Matt’s not even sure the man is gay.

Matt is hilarious. He’s flirty and a bit flighty. I got the impression he rather goes through life having a good time without ever thinking about anything too deeply. While he’s not sure tech Sal is gay, but that doesn’t stop his babbling and flirting and yet he doesn’t want to reveal his true vocation to the man, figuring a man like Sal wouldn’t be impressed. After he gets fixed up, he’s left waiting for his friend, when Sal, just getting off work, offers him a ride home.

During the ride home, Matt faces a dilemma, he wants to make a move on Sal, but he can’t keep up the fireman ruse if he can convince Sal to come up, the velcro closures and sequin g-string will likely give it away. However, they both seem to be keeping secrets. You don’t get to know as much about Sal, but he comes across as a nice caring guy who likes kids, and a decent sort. Not usually the type Matt runs into. My only niggle was Sal’s secret was a bit creepy to me, but he was such a nice guy and Matt was fine when all was revealed (I shall keep it a secret :-) ) so it was only a very minor thing for me, and others likely won’t feel that way.

So when you are in the mood for light and flirty and total fun, this is a perfect story to pick up. And you can’t really go wrong with FREE! The author seems to always leave you feeling good and smiling after one of her stories, and this is no exception.

" It’s hard to flirt when sequins are chafing your bits…

What a simple-cute-story....but leave me 1 big question after I read it...

Let say you just met this guy less than 24 hours, then you decided to do hook up things, then he said, "Is okay, I'm clean or I've been tested ", well...did you just believe with what they say and do it bareback ???

Oh, come on !
You're not that naive, right ?
Cuz you'll end up pregnant or get STD or even HIV !!

I admit, I like watch bareback, but in real life ?
Oh, pheu-liiise, babe...
Safe sex only exist on book ! Period !

LOL !

Just do safe sex and use condoms...

Awwwwwww :)

I truly felt as soon as I started reading the story it was over; like in a blink of an eye. Seriously, it was only 25 pages. Honestly, it could have been a bit longer, especially to help with the transition/epilogue at the end.

With that said, I really did enjoy that Matt ended up with a Sal; an average guy, and not another rich bloke. All in all, this is a cute, sweet upbeat read in which the two MC's get their HEA.
